Why give us armors that are worthless and can't craft anything 3star

Because this games crafting only allows pentamelded armor to craft anything 3star or bust, what a waste of my time getting all the OJ script armors, max level materia, rroneek stead HQs all this prep and barely craft anything, what a good waste of time.

Uhhh. You "are" able to craft 3star items with a mix of Orange Script iLv720 Innovator's gear and iLv690 HQ Black Star accessories, using minimal overmelding (only the 1st Overmeld slot on the Accessories for the Grade XII). You just aren't able to do it as comfortably as you could with fully pentamelded gear, that's all.

Here for example what I cooked up in like 10min:

Innovator's: Tools + Left side
Black Star: Right side (accessories)
Food: HQ Ceviche (+96 CP, +150 Craftsmanship)
Drink: HQ Cunning Craftsman's Tisane (+27 CP)

Melds:
Primary Tool: Grade XII Control
Secondary Tool: Grade XII Control

Head: Grade XII Craftsmanship + Grade XII Control
Body: Grade XII Control x 2
Arms: Grade XII Control x 2
Legs: Grade XII Control + Grade XII CP
Feet: Grade XII Control + Grade XII CP

Ears: Grade XII Control + Grade XII CP*
Neck: Grade XII Control + Grade XII CP*
Wrist: Grade XII Control + Grade XII CP*
Ring 1: Grade XII Craftsmanship x 2*
Ring 2: Grade XII Craftsmanship x 2*

* = Advanced Melding / Overmelding required

This will give you 5393 Craftsmanship, 4797 Control and 712 CP, while also giving you room to meld some extra stats in your Accessories (these will stay relevant until 7.3 crafted / 7.4 Orange Scrip gear with new accessories comes out). Your statline is high enough to start making 3star equipment that way.

Of course, you can also build around HQ Rroneek Steak, but that cuts 4 CP out and you will have to move a bunch of Control melds into Craftsmanship melds. You can remedy this neatly by melding 2 x +7 CP Materia in a Ring each. Your choice.

I cannot vouch how well or how easily you will be able to craft 3star items regarding 100% quality (certainly risky with unattended macro crafting), but you can try at least. In the meantime you can slowly upgrade your tools and equipment through various means.


BONUS TIP: The stat requirement for 3star combat gear is 99.9% going to be the same one for the next series of Disciple of Hand/Land gear you can craft in 7.3, if past expansions' pattern is anything to go by. So if you can make this, you can upgrade in 7.3.

Very workable. Use the tools you have to succeed. And this isn't the only solution. This was the "let me help out a stranger in the 5 minutes I have before I go back to work" solution.

If overmelds only on the jewelry can do it via those macros, then no overmelds could do it freehand crafting. If youve reached the minimum stats, it is possible to do.

I think without overmelds on the 5 accessory slots, the OP would be needing a lot of RNG to get HQ components (leathers, ingots, etc) and will need probably full (or near full) HQ components to guarantee an HQ on the craft.

Bigger picture though - one can't expect to have the functionality/capability of full BiS/pentamelded DoH gear when melding about 40-44 less slots on gear. Chances are, they could drop some of the 5th slot melds on accessories and still HQ. But like you said, they'd need to possibly manually craft it and they'd need more HQ components.

As someone with absolutely abysmal RNG on melding, I don't touch anything that requires penta-melding. I'm spending like 50 materia to get a 10% chance.

I once failed a 97% success/3% failure materia meld (for relic weapon scroll) 27 times in a row. Do the math on that.

This is like flipping a coin and getting heads 137 times in a row. I'll believe that the RNG system isn't fundamentally broken when someone posts a video of that happening.

I in no way meant to imply it would be easy, just that if you understand your abilities and how to tie them together then the minimum stats are enough to manually craft the items. Taking good advantage of RNG helps greatly, as does working through as many intermediate mats as you have patience for to boost the final craft. People overmeld to have an easier time, and people overmeld to hit breakpoints that allow for macro crafting.

@Eremite - Obviously no one here can prove that the RNG is functioning as intended. All i can observe is that over the years on the boards anytime someone has tried to do a test with a reasonable number of trials and recorded their results the data shows that the stated RNG values appear to be right.

i once burned 70 materias trying to meld a 7% chance slot.

Pretty much everyone who has melded enough sets has had a few of these happen to them. I remember a set... i think in shadowbringers. I was doing the rings last. For the first one, it took almost 400 materia(at 5% - i half remember doing the math and seeing that it was around 20mil worth of materia) to complete the last 2 spots. Then for the other ring the second to last slot took only 4 tries, and the last one went first try. The RNG giveth and the RNG taketh away, all in a 5 minute span.

Yeah, over long stretches it tends to even out, but I've noticed it's very streaky. I think there's some post about how the RNG works but I'd have to go hunt for it. One problem is that you aren't rolling the dice when you go for a result - I remember someone saying the server just keeps say 1000 RNG values in memory and then re-fills them as needed to save on server processing. (exact number unknown) When *anyone* does something RNG related, it will pull from these values so one lucky person just happens to snag all the good rolls and just melds all their materia on the first try, while other people hit failure rates that seem statistically impossible.

Honestly I'd rather see RNG just get deleted wherever possible. You'd still need it for like, loot rolls, etc. But if it's a 10% chance of failure, let me just put in 10 materia in one shot to get a guaranteed meld. You can still risk doing one at a time if you think you're going to get lucky, etc.

Ive read the post youre referring to, though i dont have it bookmarked or anything and havent seen in in probly a couple years. My head is saying it was based on the "mersenne twister", but it is entirely possible that im conflating unrelated things.
