Steam Login Failure: This is an Invalid Operation.

After the new patch, I am currently unable to log in. I use steam to play the game and it throws out this error on the login screen. I've seen another recent report of this on the steam forums just after the patch.

I have no VPNs or internet proxies enabled on my computer.

Happening as a non-steam windows user as well.

I'm the person that made the steam post and I have noticed 2 things with this:

1. Webview2 is already installed on my system, that is not the issue (i was wrong)
2. I don't need to enter any credentials to get that error. Once you click login it happens no matter what. It seems like the launcher isn't even trying to verify the information in the first place, it just errors out regardless.

UPDATE: Repairing webview2 worked for me! Just "try" to uninstall it from add and remove programs!

OMG! This did it!!!

For me it fixed it by going to the Apps and Programs page on window settings and clicking on "Modify" on Microsoft Edge Webview2. It prompted a download and, I assume, update

Mhm! It doesn't let you uninstall it but it does let you re-install it (repair it) which fixes the issue... so far it seems like either webview for some people is corrupted or missing components leading to this error

Linux user here. I'm not able to install Microsoft Edge Webview2, but thankfully I am able to access the old launcher. Hopefully the devs figure something out for us.

also linux may you please tell me how you opened the old launcher?

Also Linux users, the installation of Webview was successful, but Luncher remains black after startup.
I tried it with the regular Luncher via Lutris and the one from Steam.

*EDIT* I think they MIGHT have patched it already?

Seems the game company likes messing with players with "trials" that nobody consented to being a part of. There was nothing wrong with the launcher as it was for heaven's sake. Have to jump through hoops just to reach the login screen, and logging in leaves you at the grey screen that shows the name of the game and the launcher is just busted. Again.

Who at SE thought it was a good idea to inject Microsoft Edge into the launcher... now i'm stuck at Final Fantasy XIV logo... at least have a way to login without Microsoft Edge WebView2

To get the Launcher to work in Linux, I had to:

1) Edit FFXIV_BOOT.CFG and change value of line WebView2RuntimeInvalid from 0 to 1.
2) Use Protontricks/Winetricks to uninstall WebView2.

The CFG file is in your Proton/Wine prefix for the game. Folder where you can find it is:
