An 7.2-7.5 Speculation

Hi everyone, with 7.2 coming up within a few weeks; I have been wondering about something with the Kingdom of Alexandria, and well.. Alexander, the primal. (The raid series from Heavensward.)

I have noticed they have been trying to weave in the lore from the raid series into the expansions. So far Alexander, and Eden? (Please correct me if I am mistaken.) have not been correlated with the MSQ yet.

With Heritage Found going through a 30 year time skip, (Alexander manipulates time.) and dealing with the Kingdom of Alexandria, which the whole kingdom was the primal in FF9. (Eidolon in FF9's terminology.) Do you think we will have a lore correlated with the lv60 raid series? Or is this just all electrope, and Alexander will have no references to this at all?

I feel it could fit into the MSQ, but I also think it could not work, so I wanted to know what you all think about the return of Alexander? Even if its just a slight mention of it?

No, I genuinely think it's all unrelated. This sounds weird coming from a massive lore nerd that usually loves everything linking up, but they seem to be deliberately avoiding that particular link as much as possible.

Not only is there no real crossover point between the two stories anyway outside of both being conceptually rooted in 'Alexander the recurring Final Fantasy primal', but the game itself had ample opportunity to have someone bring up the connection to hint it back onto the table, since Y'shtola was actually involved in that storyline. It's a rather easy Chekhov's Gun to put back on the set to remind us, so the fact they didn't feels like a deliberate attempt to avoid us drawing that line. I suspect it's actually also why the game's so deliberately refused to give us an easy look at Alexandria Castle, either by deliberately directing attention away from it in the Alexandria dungeon, or only showing it in essentially caricature in Yesterland; it's such a natural and obvious money shot that I feel like they have to be deliberately avoiding it, to let the story of Alexandria build itself up without distracting us with 'hey, that's just Alexander'.

And that's all putting aside that 'Alexander the recurring Final Fantasy primal' is itself a complete nightmare, because every game that bigs it up uses it differently, to the point where it'd be genuinely hard to reference both at once. In FFIX, Alexander was essentially the protector deity for the city of Alexandria, which is a completely different implementation than it has in FFXIV, where it's a giant walking time machine; they're different to the point where I think it would be more confusing instead of less to try to evoke and reference both simultaneously. You start letting in other games, we have an even bigger nightmare: neither of them have anything in common with FFXI's implementation which went for 'ancient mecha', or Type-0's, where it's essentially the in-universe equivalent of the atomic bomb. (All of that's why I'm genuinely extremely interested in seeing how the FF MtG set handles Alexander, but that's beside the point!)

Thematically, I think we're more likely to see more Eden, and Pandaemonium references in Dawntrail as their stories deal with memory, and souls respectively. While the Alexander story does have a primal called Alexander, and does deal with time travel, it handles its time travel in a somewhat scientific way, and is more interested in time travel as a tool, and things like paradoxes. While Dawntrail is more interested in using time to explore themes like nostalgia, grief, and legacy. So I don't think FFXIV's Alexander has any ties to FFXIV's Alexandria despite the FFIX stuff.

As of today, I suspect the 30-year time-skip was solely the "oscillating difference in relative time passage between shards" invoked in 5.0 to give the history of the First some time to develop an interesting status quo before we got there trying to squeeze an entire expansion of content out of it. Re-invoking that lore allowed Zoraal Ja to reappear immediately after the rite of succession with 30 years of prep already done, allowing the story to continue at a brisk pace.

As for the rest, I'm on a sort of "wait and see" pause. The Alexander we know was a hulk of a Sharlayan defense mechanism with a primal summoned into its core for no real reason beyond that it seemed the the easiest and most effective way for Quickthinx Allthoughts to realize his ideals inspired by the Enigma Codex, authored by an Auri technologist 100 years before. There's not a whole lot there for Alexandria to hang their hat on, but, hey, Mide and Dayan are their own people's ancestors. When, from Alexander's perspective, all time is happening at once, the linear series of moments we experience is an illusion, and "when" you are is relative, there's always room for retcons. If someone on the writing team wants an Alexander connection badly enough, it might happen...

I do agree with you that Alexander in the FF series is such a mix bag when it comes to its place in the stories. Since Alexander had such a huge role in FF9, I just felt maybe it would make a reference, but you would be right that there was zero hints to build up to its return. I think about Everkeep, because its an electrope version of the Iifa tree from FF9. I just imagine a electrope designed Alexander, and maybe its because the Twinning had an ironworks version of it too, and its a machine to boot (xD); so my brain just thinks it could correlate in some way but its hard to put it into the story. (Also, no old characters like Cid have came into the Dawntrail story as of yet. I miss that guy.)

I actually forgot about the First's weird time differences, and that makes a whole lot more sense. The whole time thing would have be carefully planned because that... THAT type of storytelling can go absolutely wild. I mean we have went to the past already, so I am with you on "Lets wait and see.". I am quite hesitant to think Alexander will make a return because its so... far fetched with its original lore, but if the devs do something; I'd be interested to see where that goes.

I do want to say that I think it's actually a little lucky that this particular figure is the one they had to double-dip on, just because of the name. Two entirely separate Ifrits would have been very suspicious, just like two separate Shivas or two separate Bahamuts. Meanwhile, Alexander is a fairly normal name even to modern people in 2025; it feels completely understandable that the name just happened to crop up twice.

...but in thinking about it, it might be exceptional that of all the names to crop up twice, it's the famously Greek one. Two civilizations in the game have a tendency to tap into Greek, but Sharlayan basically only uses it for place names and descriptors; Greek names for people and figures, that's squarely an Amaurotian thing... who happen to be damn near the only civilization that could've conceivably left fingerprints across shards.

I hate the notion that we might have more Ancient Time ahead of us, and I really hope we don't. But I'd think that, if the writers were ever inclined to write up a link between the primal and the city, it'd trace back to that.

I’m under the impression that on the surface Sharlayan and Amaurot using Greek is just because of the thousands of years of western culture associating the Greek language with knowledge. If you wanted to justify it in-universe, you could say the Sharlayans picked it up after studying the Ancients.

Alexandria’s use of the actual Ancient script is a bit more mysterious but until we see any proof of a direct connection, I’m convinced the devs just picked it due to being a third pre-made script and not having to make a fourth one just for Solution Nine. Its use seems uneven too since Honey B. Lovely to me looks to be using cursive Eorzean script especially with the shape of her ‘y’ and she could be Tonawawta rather than Hyune.

As for future Ancients showing up, there was still that comment before from Yoshi-P asking us to remember the Convocation seats unless that was a red herring. And I won’t be convinced Altima has nothing to do with the Arcadion questline until the last quests wrapping it up after M12.

Not to veer entirely off topic, but I still believe that the original Archons who founded Sharlayan were either a) the actual Twelve in human form or b) acting on direct behalf of the Twelve, either of which put them on the trail of eventually making contact with Hydaelyn and thus solidifying the Ancient association (there's also the very conspicuous shots of the assembled Forum in their identical robes and obscured faces being direct parallels of assembled Ancients, but that could just as easily be entirely within the context of Endwalker's story).

This might get some more attention soon in the Occult Crescent with the accidentally leaked BGM making a tenuous link to the War of the Magi.

That said, though, I think I broadly agree with the 'on its face' interpretation you presented, the classical Greek association seems far more likely to be because it's suitably ancient and culturally ubiquitous. The Ancients/Ascians also fulfill a Titan-esque narrative role to the people of today; Hades even has a spell called 'Titanomachy'.

I don't know about speculation though i did spot some familiar landmarks in the trailer for 7.2 of the occult cresant assuming they weren't the originals. The pyramid from weeping city of mhach and what looks like moss covered towers from the floating city of nym. Don't know why they are there much less in the same place.

As for 7.2 and beyond if i were to speculate to be quite honest we could have by now gone to the "unlost world" supposed ninth shard use a bunch of electrope and create a massive amount water aether i believe to counter act the massive lightning aether on the ninth and send everyone home.

I also wish they would stop beating around the bush with these shades of the thirteenth. From the ninth floor of pandemonium's boss, to Zorral ja becoming a voidsent with all those souls, to now with arcadian, and solution nine's soul use. it is just everywhere. Stop teasing us.

One of the original twelve archons was indeed used as a basis of imagery for Rhalgr, but the same guy also defected to join the Ascians. Though that was 1.0 lore and I'm not sure how much carried over.

Relm was a member of the archons during this time period as well and she seemed to otherwise be a normal person so I don't think they're the actual Twelve. The Twelve also said that they don't interfere with the world.

I'm fairly certain that Ahldbhar has been mentioned again since then but not by name, though the imagery inspiration seems to have been retconned directly in favor of direct glimpses of the phantom realm (ostensibly the Ascian connection as well, but who knows?). I wish they hadn't, it was one of my favorite extracurricular lore tidbits (and could explain why Halone is consistently depicted as a Hyur and Thaliak as an Elezen).

I don't really think there's enough of Relm shown or described to make a determination either way, and I could conjure any number of characters saying something contrary to the things they do, most notably Hydaelyn herself, ie. their boss, who freely admits in her first direct conversation with you that she has repeatedly misled you or overly simplified her accounting of past events. The Twelve themselves also already lied straight to our faces to get us to do battle with them, which is admittedly a much different situation.

Granted, there's no reason for the Twelve to lie to us after Hydaelyn and Zodiark are gone and their missions fulfilled, but given their directive to guide and safeguard life on Etheirys I don't think it's out of the question that they might have given history a nudge when there's a particularly existential threat. The aforementioned direct Rhalgr sighting came after Rhalgr guided people to Gyr Abania with a comet. I'd call that an interference with the world, but Halone in her discussion of the matter with Menphina notes a delineation in their philosophy between 'aid' and 'intervening' in the affairs of mortals all while remaining unseen in their true forms. This suggests to me that certain measures of sending guidance or assistance are acceptable in certain circumstances.
I suppose there's a fair case against them being the literal Twelve, but certainly not against the Twelve's direct involvement or incitement of the post-Sixth Umbral Calamity recovery. Perhaps in the draft where one of their chosen Archons went off to become an Ascian they revised their policy on intervention in mortal affairs to be even more stringent, but who can say?

I imagine it'd be really cool for IX fans to see Alexander envelop the castle, even in a flashback — but I don't actually think they'll make an intentional connection to the raids. I really hope they do, though!

The recreation of the castle in Living Memory is in an area called Proto-Alexandria, which is the naming convention for a tier of the normal raid gear. A few things in Yesterland have names that seem to draw from German, like a lot of Alexander's adds. Enigmatic maiden vs. Enigma Codex... Many souls, one heart, Alexandria vs. True Heart... A lot of Alexander's interior looks like a golden city... Big robot being that cannot continue to exist without draining the world(s) of aether sentences itself to death by Warrior of Light... Swords with wings... Fun with dimensions, spacetime, gravity...

Things I noticed only because I was looking for them, I know, but things that are keeping my copium tank full LOL. Also, this is totally just pareidolia on my part, but the dark blue piece on the back of Sphene's dress is shaped exactly like Cruise Chaser from a top-down view... Which is interesting but almost definitely nothing.

7.2 site updated with 3 of the fighters we’ll be facing in the raid series. Any speculation on what the fourth fight could be?

The blonde cat boy confuses me. In the scene he's in with Brute Bomber he isn't shown with a regulator on. Which made me suspect that he might be a black regulator wearer. Yet in his introduction splash screen he is shown with a regular white one. He also looks to have a Fenrir model as his beast form. I would have to look at the trailer again as he is in them in a few spots outside of the fight and I want to say he is missing a regulator in every shot of him. Which could also mean that he just fights with one and for whatever reason doesn't normally wear one. Unless they are hiding his black one on purpose.

The rafflesia fighter, the one with the green tentacley design that jumps on the wall, is the one that's missing from the lineup.

...if, in fact, the rafflesia fighter is the fourth Arcadion boss in the first place; I suspect that they cut the MSQ and Arcadion together partly for deliberate disorientation, so it'd be entirely unsurprising to me if we've gotten that completely wrong somehow.

It can be missed, but the Rafflesia fighter is wearing the same bracelet Brute Bomber has on the same arm.

So, my speculation is that he is M6 or M7, fighting him again for whatever reason with another Beast Soul (or his soul corrupted by the regulator usage?). I haven't spotted anything that could be the Beast Form of our Fenrir catboi, so I assume he's M8. (Also because he has this 'blazing' light in his intro art and the M8 song from the Mount Yoshi-P showed accidentally had a few 'blazing' in the lyrics.)

EDIT: I retract my Statement, my brain sorted the Mecha Guy into Occult Crescent but watching the trailer super slowly in 4k made me realise it's the catboi. So, the order of M6 to M8 remains a mystery to me, but I assume Brute to be number 4.

I've had a thought that's somewhere between 'prediction' and 'wouldn't it be cool if', that the second leg of the Arcadion could ramp things up by killing one of the recognizable characters and exploring how the regulator memory-erasing affects people on a wider scale when faced with someone on a level of celebrity.

I was thinking about either Wicked Thunder as most likely, or Honey B. Lovely for the maximum player gut punch... but now that I think about it, Brute Bomber would work really well for it; he's already proven to be most likely to turn up for a rematch, letting that moment happen around a big fight, and it kinda seems like we might be building up Mecha Catboy as his friend which would be an important extra element.

I'm not 100% sure if that part of the regulator system is working anymore since 7.1, but if it is, we could be building to that.

If I had to guess.
More of the writers pet: Wuk Lamat.
More homogenization of jobs.
More homogenization of dungeons.
Less fun.

Calyx knows he’s from Reflection 9, and seems integral to creating “Solution 9.” If he knows his Reflection’s numerical designation, then he knows the others - which could mean he’s got a Solution 1, Solution 4, Solution 8, Solution 11, and possibly a Solution 13. Whether he’s put them into play yet is another question…

I bring this up, because it’s possible all the void related stuff is connected to a bigger story arc where souls are being shifted from their Reflections to the Source by Calyx. And it sure would be helpful if he could use Azem’s power to call others from across dimensions/shards - on a massive, industrialized scale.

Solution Nine is named that because it's on the ninth floor. This was literally the very first thing we were told when we entered Solution Nine.

Given that, actually went to 'Solution Eleven' in the base expansion--it's where we beat the snot out of Zoraal Ja--and know that 'Solution Twelve' and onward does not exist, because the twelfth floor was an organizational code name for the portal to the Ninth above the 'throne room'.

We've also been to the eighth floor in literally this patch, it was where one of the Arcadion raids took place.

I think I’m in the “wait and see” department on this one still. We and the citizens have been lied to quite a bit by Preservation so far. Feels odd that the 9th Reflection and Solution 9 wouldn’t have more than a happenstance connection. But it’s possible. Disappointing if so. But possible.

It is interesting that Calyx/Preservation are calling each floor a “solution” though. He does end the current patch saying he’s arrived at an answer and wants to pose a new question. Perhaps that entails more floors being built?

As much as I would love this to be true, I don't think there's any "wait and see". We already know for a fact there's a Solution 1, 2, 3 etc and they're referring to the floors of Everkeep. In fact you can talk to Ubuyu in Solution Nine and ask her "What kind of place is this?" and she'll explain the origin of the name. Even if the citizens were lied to about the name, how would that affect anything? Some citizens live in Solution 8 which is just downstairs and that has nothing to do with the 8th reflection.

And the reason why it's called a "Solution" is because there's a "Solution to every problem", as in, you can find anything you need there.

Yeah, it does seem like that’s a reasonable explanation.

But does that mean “there’s a solution to every problem” on Solution 1, 2, 3 etc…?

Are they told that on each floor?

Each floor has a purpose. We don't hear much about much of them, but they do. Solution Nine is the residential zone; it's the 'solution' to the problem of 'where do we live'.

Honestly, I've frequently see you come out of nowhere with a theory and then either twist or ignore all other evidence in relation to it, and I really wish you'd stop and do more to take in both what the game says, and what other people tell you the game says. The game rarely-to-never lies to us without tipping its hand that what we're being told is a lie; it's not productive or helpful to assume that everything is a falsehood and the truth is some long-shot conspiracy theory that goes against literally everything we've been told.

The Solutions are floors, and have no connection to the shards. We know this becuase we were directly told that the Solutions are floors, and also saw ourselves that there's only eleven of them. Please, it's going to be a lot more helpful for both you and everyone if you accept the evidence, and don't reject it out of hand when people tell you the facts.

Apologies. I like to swing big, but I’m okay if the story goes in another direction. I suppose I’ll just have to wait and see if the floor labeled 9 has anything more than a coincidental connection to the 9th Reflection - and if there’s some kind of pattern to be discovered. Personally I think it would be cool if it did - but I can see where you’re coming from regarding what we’ve been told so far.

Kinda revising my Necron fan fiction prediction. I think what might happen is that something is gonna cause Calyx to expedite his plans, and he activates all 5000 Neo Regulators while muttering something about the heavens and hells, and dusts them all. Everyone. Everyone's aether, everyone's souls, everyone's memories get sent to Living Memory all at once causing it to overload, and create an anomaly. Memoria. Calyx is pulled into Memoria to his surprise. So we fight though Memoria, and while the structure extends upward, the top of it extends into the Aetherial Sea where we fight Calyx as the last boss the dungeon. After defeating him, he admits that this devastation was not his intention, and he was used, and that the confluence created an entity that is a threat to the Aetherial Sea, and the lifecycle. 'Life cannot evolve if there is no life to begin with, go stop it hero.' And he blips out of existence. We fight Necron.

Not exactly speculation per-se, but I do hope that the Living Memory map gets repurposed. I mean, we could assume that it is a factor in whatever Calyx has planned but guess we'll have to wait and see.
