Ngl, one thing I want and that damn near every MMO with housing fails to do is actually make houses useful and not just some space you decorate for a day and come back to months later when you have something to add. FFXIV started off with a couple things like for crafting boost, plants, and buffs but now there really is not a god damn thing worth using houses for cept RP and FC stuff...
Not helping matters was the complete restructuring of reward systems. There wasn't much point in doing any of the game's daily grinds unless you really wanted once-per-hour toys or a seventh recolor of the same wolf/alien deer mount every faction/reputation grind had to offer. It took until the literal last patch of the expansion for them to add endgame content that incentivized playing it more than once.
But I do miss my garrison sometimes. Rewards or no, it was nice to have a cozy adventuring hub all to myself.

Took them 10 years to rework the blacklist feature and it's still half-baked (aka Playerscope)
Maybe in the next 10 years.
I really wish Square takes this attention on WoW's housing and decides to up the quality of their own housing system :( However my concern is that housing is already a sub shackle for most of FF (people don't want to lose all the money & time they invested into their houses) and if they remove repossession they'll just lose money. :(
I am so hyped for this.
If they make furnishings accessible, instead of making me run retainer missions for over 6 months for a simple stone partition or neon wall light, and if they allow a big enough number of furnishings per house, I'm definitely resubscribing to the game just for housing alone.
Hehe , it is WoW after all, there will be insanely rare or hard to get furnitures, things that only drop in Heroic or Mythic raids, or some that will be extremly grind heavy/reputation dependend, not to mention their ingame cash shop will have some absurdly overpriced stuff too.
Wow Just killed this game.

Wow is eating FF for lunch now.
Honestly good
I've never once played WoW, but competition is a healthy thing and it's good to see Blizzard taking jabs at SE
I hope that it causes them to look at the housing system and give it more work and implement the things Blizzard has managed to do
It's not good for one to become complacent, and I'm saying this as FFXIV is one of my favorite MMOs that I've played
Same. This is my favorite game and the game world I love most. I want to see better features that other games have done (or are planning) put into Eorzea.
The effortless floating of furnishings is long overdue (seriously SE, I should be able to put whatever I want on a loft!), but the ability to rotate on any axis, have multiple dye channels on furnishings, as well as the ability to move things as a group would be major QoL additions.
I would have to agree gameplay wise. If FF gameplay had the fluidity and quickness of WoW's engine, it would be a beast. The world would need to be larger as well with less invisible walls as no one really rivals wow's world building ability.
As much as I love FF, this last year has been hard to take it seriously as an mmo anymore.
As things stand we can't even use any metallic colors on furnishings, let alone having multiple dye channels for them but I agree with everything you've said - those would be major QoL improvements to their system
I will give them some credit because from what I recall they intend on implementing a feature where you can change the interior size of your house
So a small house exterior could have a medium or large interior
but the reason it isn't full credit is because it hasn't been implemented yet
Maybe they'll speak on it in the upcoming liveletter, and it'd be nice if they were to address this and mention a rework to the housing system
but I doubt that'll happen
It would also be nice if they were able to get everyone a house should they want one
I wonder how Blizzard is going to implement it
It's not as bad as people make it out to be. People just use it as an excuse for why SE doesn't do or improve things, instead of going with the more obvious reasons: They just don't want to or don't feel it's worth putting in the time and money to develop or fix things.
Considering third-party plugins can allow you to do things like freely float furniture and clip it out of bounds, there really is no reason why SE couldn't implement these features themselves, other than the reasons I gave above.
As much as I'm hoping WoW's housing gives SE an incentive to improve things, I'm not going to get my hopes up. It's already taking them forever to bump up the item limit, something they announced back in EW, and who knows when the interior size feature is being implemented.
The team will do nothing about this. Ever. I fully agree with what Arthars said in the Save Point podcast he does with Quazi: Yoshida doesn't want FFXIV to be the best, that's not his goal. He doesn't even think it's possible to be better than WoW, so he will perpetually settle for second-best. (EDIT: I have to add I don't like this mentality from the lead developer of my game, such a meek defeatist attitude doesn't fill me with optimism for the future.)
Mark this post: nothing will change about FFXIV housing, other than the very minor things they've already announced. Even those don't really impress me. When they said "we are looking into the ability to remove pillars from housing interiors", I thought they meant all of the current interiors, not "we are going to make a single new interior that does not have pillars, please enjoy. And if you don't like modern aesthetics in your fantasy game, then you won't enjoy it."
Nothing that WoW's dev team does will ever pressure CSIII/SE to change or innovate, because they just don't care enough to even try to beat them.
