The community managers technically read the forums and relay the feedback. But it's like a game of telephone and who knows what the dev team actually hears.
Also, it's not a good thing that they read the JP forums. They cherrypick random 3 like posts on the JP forums as justification for their bizarre moves like gutting Viper days after release, while ignoring the tens of thousands of likes on the JP forums that disagree that Viper is "too busy".
Makes you question where the hell they look for feedback…
-VPR Noxious Gas enters the chat-
Oh I see… lol
No.
I hope it helped.
Cherrypicked feedback is starting to look more and more like the case if you look at the timeline.
There's no doubt that they are not aware of EVERYTHING that is available and people dislike, but do they care ? That's another story.
It's also always in the direction of making the game easier, at least when it comes to PvE. I don't know what they're afraid of, "invalidating" clears for beating content when the game was easier? Having to actually test past content? It feels like trying to turn a ratchet the opposite way.
They either cherrypick or they already had the same idea and it happened to overlap with a post on JP, which tends to bring up requests for simplifications more often than EN.
They do, issue here is that it still takes them ages... to implement any of the changes. Unless it genuinely breaks something in game or easily exploitable, its not a next patch fix, NOPE, were talk next expansion and beyond.
They do read it, I know for fact because being banned for half a month and getting posts removed but thats about the only thing they do
I don't think dev actively culls our post. That's the forum moderator's job, not the devs.
They do go to the subreddit. They look at all forms of feedback. They just ignore a lot of it.
I think the most influential place for feedback is JP blogs, if you're passionate about the game you make a blog about it, if you're mad and want to complain you come to the official forums.
looking on how things are handle these days and since the past 2/4 years : No
It is funny that there are also many people on the JP forums complaining SE only listening to the EN forums because FFXIV is an international game or something similar.
One thing I noticed from going back and forth between reading JP forums and EN forums is that, usually there are more comments on JP side stating both what they want to be changed and a few suggestions that they consider good improvement for the situation that sounds reasonable/possible, whereas I see many of the comments on EN side are simply just "I don't like this and that" or asking for something that obviously SE would never do such as "bring back HW cleric stance" etc. (Of course I am not saying ALL of them are like that)
Over the last 11 years, I've had 7 times my question/feedback was answered.
That was a lot.
Over the last 4 years, I've never seen them address feedback on the forums, to my knowledge.
I feel like the forums used to be more constructive and less mean-spirited, but that's the world we live in.
The devs themselves definitely don't touch the English side of the forums.
But people around them might fill them in on some topics.
Take it from an industry vet, this to me sounds more like some dev with some gravitas/authority (like a creative director, team lead or executive) decided that they found it too complicated or didn't like it and asked for it to be changed, and they just complied because they had to, then came up with random justifications to make up some back up claims.
I actually think the devs listen much more to the NA playerbase than the JP playerbase. The game getting easier, all the soft reportable things like emoting in PvP, the PlayerScope drama queens.
NA players bring in the most money, so the devs prioritizing NA sorta makes sense.
I have had specific feedback I've made on the UI forum incorporated into the game. Little things like the lock on the UI window for raw ingredients so you don't lose it when you switch retainers or search for things on the market board, or being able to sort the display order of retainers.
So I can confirm that the community managers are passing along some messages from the English UI forum, at least.
Yes, several changes were suggested here like mount tilt, dissatisfaction with certain graphics updates etc.
I’ve been feeling the same way. Like they just do something they don’t feel like explaining for whatever reason, and say it’s “because of feedback.”
I’d appreciate more transparency about why decisions are made, and maybe about why they think certain changes are good ideas. Like right now if we look at the job guide’s adjustments overview, the Dark Knight section explains that the changes to Dark Mind and Dark Missionary are for making its abilities match other tanks, and the change to Abyssal Drain is to give it better healing for dungeons. Even though I don’t think it needed more healing, I appreciate the explanation. Meanwhile the GNB Double Down change and NIN Ten Chi Jin change are “to improve ease of use,” and we just have to guess why. Why made easier? Why those changes? It can feel annoying to hear, and then I feel the same way when we just hear that changes are “because of feedback or “to reduce inputs.” And then we get casuals complaining that jobs are made easier for parsers, and raiders complaining that jobs are made easier for casuals, and then so many people wonder whether the forums actually get read.
On one hand maybe we’ll get explanations that some people don’t like, and the devs wanna avoid that response. Like if a higher-up just doesn’t like something. But at least it would be nice to hear more of the actual reasoning about things because people are gonna complain either way. It would also placate the people who don’t understand why a change was made and keep asking for it to be reverted, if they better understand the intended design philosophy.
Living dead and blood weapon on DRK were messed up for more than 6 years. If they do read it, they do a bad job at compiling the feedback and relaying it to the dev team. Except when it comes to the graphics update.
It's unfortunate that the multi-billion-dollar company owning the world's most popular MMORPG communicates poorly with its player base.
nope, if they did (just to give you an example) , they would have removed or change all hildi quests , which they're aimed to japanese audience, they like that sort of comedy , unlike us, we dont find it funny, comical or entertaining (ofc few like it but they're a minority and that's a fact), or change /add certain systems that players have requested for years(im looking at you gear restrictions)
