This doesn't matter nearly as much as the CEO saying they want to focus on "quality over quantity", which is codeword for "let Nomura make another convoluted nonsensical story filled with razzle and dazzle CGI effects"
Company restructure, same old same old. Doubt it's going to change anything.
Square Enix' "quality over quantity" lol. Proof? When? Because it has been the opposite.
A lot of Yoshi P's promises have gone down the drain too, you have to actually fulfill some promises before they can be taken seriously.
They said they're going for quality over quantity in the future... But it will definitely remain to be seen if they'll actually make any quality games.
Their best games in recent times have been remakes of their old titles, Star Ocean Second Story and Romancing Saga 2 are ones I would point to... And if we go back sometime further the FF Pixel Remasters...
I don't think they can sustain themselves with gachas and remakes.
He's still listed as executive officer and many other directors and it seems SE gave every executives less responsability to focus on their own stuff.
Yoshi's wanted out of that job forever, good for him maybe it frees up time to work more on DT
Or it could mean raiding your subs to prop up other ventures it's only going to get worse. The counter to that is that surely they must see the golden goose is already on its last legs.
Oh wait no!
I know!
They want to turn mobile XIV full Gatcha and Yoshi wouldn't have it!
Chinese interests have leaned, dived for his removal, and Yoshi has too much sense to fight.
It's wild speculation and fantasy... but...
Or this is just a precursor to him retiring largely altogether.
Frankly if I were him I wouldn't take this shit. It's huge responsibility. Things are going to go wrong. Your going to take some shit and frankly you should. But eventually you take your fare share and it's time to let someone else do the heavy lifting.
quality over quantity? so... even better cut scenes for msq but no other content? xD
I really do have mixed feelings over what YoshiP does compared to what he actually wants.
Every now and then you'll see him mention the odd thing in a interview like additional levels not being wanted, additional jobs because its expected and thinking jobs have no identity and wanting to overhaul them.
Yet the product we get doesn't reflect what's been said in the past, I wonder if its more a "I'd like to but will play safe" or "I'd like to but have to play safe"
I wonder if we'll ever know.
I honestly think its them actually being afraid of innovating. And why risk it if sub numbers arent dropping.
I think because of this game being on console and their devs not being too skilled, they are hamstringed too. Especially cause if something fails / gets left behind. Grand Companies, Island sanctuary. They just leave it instead of innovating and switching it up.
He was trying to get out of that position for years. Sounds like it's a restructuring and he's on a new management committee with like 7 others. So he doesn't have to do the things he didn't want to do and now he can focus on what he does want to do.
What does 'Quality Content' entail exactly? More rehashed Savages and Ultimates pieced together with the game's 8 brainrot mechanics no one actually wants to play, with a glowing stick as a reward that has textures worse than a late 90s game on a Pentium 1?
They pretty much lost all the gains they had from the WoW exodus.
But yes we have a trifecta:
1) Yoshi P has no vision and is just an accountant put into the position of a director
2) They cannot handle any tech related debt and cannot find anyone to fill the positions since the language barrier is apparently insurmountable at SE
3) They are not even putting resources in the game anyways, CBU3 is prioritizing two other projects and most of their senior team is not working on FF14.
Bad leader, bad employees, and no resources.
Good for him, he didn't want to be on the board anyway.
I don't think this will mean anything notable for FFXIV however (as much as I wish it would).
This just means he has more time to focus on FFXIV and other projects he's interested in. Man was spread thinner than Ariana Grande's meal schedule. xD
I may be delusional, but I know one thing that's real. And that's Y'shtola's feet pics. G'raha provides me the goods and I sell them on the market board for a premium. I'm always on the run, however. As the blind cat girl is a vengeful mistress and while she hasn't caught on to G'raha yet. She has most certainly noticed me. So...would you like some Y'shtola feet pics? :3

Jesus the cringe levels
You could say "its over 9000", but clearly I've surpassed that and have gone further beyond!!! >:D
Okay, enough with the off topic stuff. More than likely, not much will change with Yoshi-P stepping down from board of directors role besides him being more present in his multiple gaming projects. At least, that's what I hope will happen. As the FFXIV team, as an example needs some hard oversight when it comes to parts of the game. The story being the biggest plight at the moment on most people's minds.
He's probably the one who chose to embark on three projects at the same time. You don't see the WoW team working on three games at the same time. But CBU3 is... There really is no hope that he has time to dedicate his attention to FF14, when he *chose* to put less time into FF14.
Normally I'd side with you Red-Thunder, but I have to disagree on this one. In Japanese business culture if someone gently suggests a thing, it's effectively an order. I imagine it went something along the line of "We're worried about FF16. We really need a proven senior on the project to bring the shareholders some reassurance" which is, insofar as that culture goes, effectively an order to Yoshi directly. While we're both unaware of how the situation went down, it's worth noting that Yoshi has asked to step down from the board multiple times and always been denied. This whole situation reads as Yoshi getting what he wanted.
Granted, that doesn't necessarily mean more time for FF14, as Yoshi is planning his retirement route and has a kid he likely wants to spend more time with. I suppose the proof will be in the 8.0 pudding, but alot of damage is going to have been done by that point. I guess we'll see?
Were finally reaching "Bobby Kotick left the company, its a completely different company now" levels of copium for Square Enix.
You make a great point - the game has been using similar mechanics for multiple expansions now. And they've been rehashing Savages and Ultimates for a long time.
But another point is... the game has been like this for a long time. And it has continued to be like this. Maybe the game is what it is and people are asking it to be something it is not. It is like being disappointed that a car is not a boat.
I have no clue if this is good or bad for FFXIV. Let's hope it's good. : )
For Yoshida it's good at all. Maybe he is feeling better now.
