The "SE Please take this game feature from..." thread. (Constructive Feedback)

If you could take a single feature directly from another online service game (Doesn't have to be MMORPG, no changing it, what is the most passionate thing to you to for it and why. Be it a mechanic, feature, system the "I wish FF had this ..." or "I wish FF was like this ...". I know existing content may make it not work at all but the idea's for feedback.

Game:
World of Warcraft

Feature:
Class variety.

What I like about it:
When I play a different class or in some cases, different specialization in the same class, it changes the entire pacing and feel for the game to me, maybe I can take on more mobs but kill slower, maybe I rely on burst damage to kill something because I'm more fragile, maybe I have a pet to tank for me, how I approach healing changing.

How it differs to me from FF:
In FF it feels like I am just pressing different buttons to achieve the same effect, even entire roles don't feel that different. Every 30 second / 1 minute / 2 minute do this thing, I feel no identity change, no gameplay change, it's just a different thing to remember.

I wish they would overhaul Fates and take Instant Adventures from Rift. In Rift you could queue into groups in the open world doing dynamic events on the fly. The game would matchmake you with any of the parties with open slots and direct you towards each event. As you chained events you'd get more rewards up to a certain point. Ideally, they would make Fates more rewarding by giving them bicolor gemstones at all level ranges, tomes, gil, etc and let you exchange said gemstones for the same items as hunts.

You need to understand that this game is old and to give new devs jobs. QoL and new designs are not possible sometimes. We should feel lucky that they really love us and give us something every other year. I think its rreally arrogant to wish for change in formula. Yoshi P had done his best and will keep this going for 10 more years as top MMO even passing WoW

The flipside to this is, it is arrogance to expect to run for another decade without at least changes and investment in their legacy systems.

theres many features i would love to see added however i am posting on the english forum so anything i suggest will be ignored by the devs and i have no interest in going to the jap forum

I dont have the exact source but I heard from WoW refugees that they would get acosted for playing their favorite jobs that were outside the meta.

Game:
PSO2:New Genesis

Feature:
Body paint, Hairstyles tied to glamour plate

What I like about it:

Body paint works as a layer under the clothes, and usually things like socks, tattoos, stockings, gloves and such fall under this layer. What this allows is for more complex styles, and more seamless transitions between leg-shoe pieces for socks and such

Hairstyles beign tied to Plates is self explanatory, you sometimes want a more agressive look for a style, tied hair for a jacket, or long flowy hair for a dress, so it allows me to pick how my character does their hair based on look without summoning the aesthetician

How it differs to me from FF:

Body paint is non existent in 14, and if you try for example, 2B bottoms with Frontier shoes, you will notice how the stocking CUTS right at the end of the leg, leaving the bare foot exposed in the shoe. It looks terrible, so a body paint layer would help to make it more seamless. They could even implement it how other games do, PSO2 has 2 slots for body paint, BDO has tattoo customization and underwear slot, and so on

On the topic of hairstyles, it always its a hassle to change your hair for a different one. You have to even cancel queue if you are waiting for a duty in order to do it. So having a "Hair" slot on plates that you can freely set would go a long way into improving looks. PLUS now that there is hairs on the mogstation the feature would possibly boost sales

Bottom note is, more character customization is good, but it needs systems to support it in order to give it more shelf life

Feature: Subjobs

Let me use Cure and Thunder as a Bard again like I did in 1.0! Yoshi-P I double dare you to do it.

What I like about it: I enjoyed the freedom it gave players in terms of what they could contribute to the party. Plus being able to move certain abilities from one job to another is a fairly common mechanic Final Fantasy games featuring jobs.

How is differs from XIV: the sheer fact players are even allowed to make a choice is a massive difference from XIV lol. The game makes our decisions for us here

I'm not sure if this is legit or sarcasm.

Let's just remember that WoW's engine is almost as old as FFXI itself (It was also Warcraft 3 engine) yet holds incredibly well even to this day, with far more flexibility than what we have here in XIV

At least having a favourite job makes sense outside of aesthetic reasons, I rather my job be fun and enjoyable, but gets locked out some pfs opposed to it just being turnt into the same job with a few visual differences.

To answer the thread actually..

I would love to see something like Dungeoneering from Runescape, something that ties dungeons with crafting and gathering

Literally any game where playing more equals to stronger characters or more/better rewards. It's not that hard to find.

Playing one day a week for 7 weeks to get BiS gear feels really bad. Come next patch, every piece becomes obsolete outside of Ultimates. And now that we have more jobs, let people farm at least 2 Ulti totems/week.

Games which do not value every single minute spent into them are becoming obsolete and losing players.

FFXI: 75 era Dynamis

Large, open, hallway free instanced area where mobs are grouped together with bosses scattered about, actual real danger if you do not pull or even wander through the area carefully, trash mobs that require at least minimal strategy and drop things that are worthwhile and sought after instead of everything worthwhile just being a boss drop.


FFXI: stats/buffs/debuffs

Actual insteresting stats that made gear so much more interesting. Buffs and debuffs from actual, real support classes that could really make a difference in battle. Protect, shell, stoneskin, haste, the various stat+/- afflciations, the myriad of dots that sometimes do more than just tic down damage, slow, doom, curse, the list goes on and on. A bard that was actually a bard instead of a ranger who hums to themselves sometimes and could support the rest of the party ike no other.


FFXIV v1: Hamlet Defense

Crafters and gatherers could contribute to building up resources, then after like 24 or 48 hours a large battle would take place where battle jobs could do their thing against the swarms of mobs coming in and crafters and gatherers could still keep providing supplies. Gave you relic weapon drops, crafting mats, etc.


WoW: Delves

Scalable dungeons that can be tackled solo or with a group that drops gear comparable to high end (savage) gear at max level, but also lower end gear to help you progress to those higher levels.


WoW: Dungeons

Just the dungeons in WoW feel so much better and I would love to see something similar. Open areas where there are optimal and optional routes you can take to get various rewards.


FFXI: Beastmaster

Cause I have no faith that SE can make it actully do well here. I highly suspect it will be Blu 2.0 by use of those regulators. I want a real pet class.

The game has endless mods out there as seen by the privacy crisis one. The community already is doing their job for them either hire them or adopt the mods. Chat bubbles are coming eventually. SE and the devs have abandoned this game years ago. They Can't be bothered to even add a new makeup option. Abandonware game.

Honestly any other MMORPG would work when it comes to class system, FFXIV just isn't it. When combat becomes boring, everything else does.

It IS possible, but they are extremely risk averse, so the only thing that will cause them to do anything really drastic/interesting is if the game really underperforms.

We actually had sub jobs in ARR - it was sort of how you unlocked advanced jobs on classes. Gladiator to 30 and conjurer to 15 unlocked Paladin. Arcanist to 30 and white mage to 15 unlocked scholar. Arcanist to 30 and black mage to 15 unlocked summoner. Etc.

(You could also cross class almost any ability as a base class in both 1.0 and ARR and they killed off that as well. No All Rounders for anyone except G'raha Tia!)

They could have done SO MUCH MORE with that system, and each of the current jobs in the game could have fed off it - GLD + BLM = DRK. Archer + conjurer = BRD. Archer + marauder = MCH. Conjurer + arcanist = AST.

I believe that they originally intended something akin to that, but scrapped it so early in development that the only way it was visible was the ghost of 30 DRK playing exactly like GLD/PLD at HW launch. They killed off the "subjob" concept for good and made Advanced Jobs instead.

Cross class abilities were removed in favor of role actions.

Anyway, I'm excited that the new Field Operations area is bringing this concept back in to some extent, with the Ephemeral Jobs. It'll be fun to see which combinations are worth using once that content releases.

Goddamn Yoshi-P took my Bard’s 1.0 Conjurer / Thaumaturge subjobs, swapped THM for LNC at some point just before release ( I haven’t forgotten Yoshi!), then for 2.0 full release slapped us in the face with ‘Lancer/Pugilist’. Then in HW they took our LB! They really haven’t given much in return over the years either…

Give me my spells back Yoshi! Someone out there totally needs a Cure and a Stoneskin right now! Also anyone remember Sacred Prism? Lol

Absolutely agree. And I mean, naturally there’s going to be some things they can’t properly translate from 1.0 > 2.0, but at the same time ever since 2.0 came out they’ve been gradually throwing out the baby, the bathwater, the tub, the sink and a handful of towels lol.

Though that brings up another feature from other games I’d like to see lol.

Feature: Support Classes

What I like about it: Offers an entirely different playstyle than ‘pure dps’

How it differs from XIV: they do not exist here in any real capacity lol
