Level Sync, on the go?

I recently rewatched the "Log Horizon" anime again and just had a thought of the "Teacher System" that gets first introduced in s1-e5; "Return to Akihabara".
To quote the anime; "A system that lets high-level players lower their levels to play with lower-leveled characters."

Now this is just throwing ideas at the wall to see what might stick, but what if there were:

• A way for Mentors to Level Sync with lower level Sprouts to be less of a... powerhouse.

Don't get me wrong it is fun to just flick an enemy and boom gone. But sometimes you want the small Sprout to have a challenge without a Dalamud sized safety net grabbing all Enmity.
Proposing that the "Mentor Sync" would Level you down to a 3-5 levels higher than the Sprout in your Party. If several Sprouts is in the party the level would be probably higher than the lowest, but maybe also lower than the highest.
Possibly only be in effect in the zone it was activated in and would be reapplied for the next, or work as long as the Mentor and Sprout is in the same party, or removed once the Sync is hit again.
To gain this "Mentor Sync" ability one needs to obviously be a Mentor and have at least one sprout in the Party. To pick up the quest one has to go to the "Hall Of The Novice" in Western La Noscea so sign a waver that "Hall Of The Novice does not own any compensation in cases of mental or physical harm to the Mentor.".
Think of it as a "special fate sync button for mentors" (to quote a friend).

• A way for higher level Players to have that feeling of roaming a Zone for the first time.

Nothing beats getting to a new Zone and getting scared by those higher level enemies while looking for the Aether Currents.
This "Zone Sync" is... Zone specific, more close to a FATE than the "Mentor Sync" but more for the lone adventurer looking for a fairer fight. The level down is to be closer to the highest level enemy of that zone and would definitively be lost when moving zones.
To gain this one has to complete the Expansion of the Zone one wishes to Sync with. And the pick up can be; in the Adventure Guild (or close similarity) in the Expansions Main and/or Sub City, or just in that specific Zone having to unlock it Zone By Zone.


Goes to say that FATEs still work as they do, but these other Syncs is working outside of those.


If I can think of more I might comment.

Is this a too crazy idea and will never see the light of day?
Do you have any Sync varians that you could see work?

Honestly I wish this was a feature specifically because of FATE farming, some Jobs are, to be blunt, miserable to play during FATE farming, namely ones that rely heavily on gauges instead of direct cooldowns, like RDM, get their gauge completely deleted when you sync down, since I like to swap jobs a lot while doing FATEs for variety, it sucks a little to have a few jobs be like "Lol, lmao even", unless I limit myself purely to Living Memory and Heritage Found.

Level sync for what? There's no content except FATEs, which already have level sync.

This is basically what Guild Wars 2 already does.

The issue with FFXIV, as BigCheez mentioned, is that there is no open world content other than FATEs to sync to (FFXIV's open world is only for MSQ and provides no real functionality outside of that), whereas Guild Wars 2 allows you to keep all of your buttons when downsyncing, which FFXIV does not for some stupid reason.

IDK, I hate level sync the way it exists right now. I see what you're getting at, but I'd like for level sync to actually be an enjoyable feature before adding it to more content (even though yeah there really isn't any open world content apart from FATES and hunts).

I like it.

Old content being somewhat evergreen and not requiring you to wait months, if not years, for a Timewalking event to be able to play it close to as originally intended is generally considered to be one of the big features that XIV has over WoW.

I'd rather they removed the ability to unsync content.

It's not an unpopular opinion at all lmao, the topic keeps coming up and the only real opposition to it is people scared SE can't handle the balancing or people who, and I shit you not, would be upset if they can't watch Netflix in Sastasha.

If Sastasha takes long enough to be worth unpausing the video, you're doing it wrong.

I'd be in favour of this, makes it easier to do FATE farming without having to lose gauge each time, and could potentially let me enjoy the open world with friends at that point in MSQ or while they're levelling alt jobs.

That said, jobs need to be more enjoyable at lower levels. So many of them feel barren below level 70, and just plain dull at 50 or below. I don't expect a complete kit at 30, but at the very least the basic job mechanics should be available by then (think Lilies, Aetherflow, GNB Cartridges, etc.), and level 50 should give the basic rotation (PLD should get Holy Spirit at this point, RDM should get at least Verflare/Verholy, etc.).
