Genuinely embarrassing that such a huge issue wasn't addressed let alone mentioned that they were working on it in this patch.

Honestly their utter passiveness with everything external to the game, even if it has a direct impact on the game itself is just getting more and more concerning at this point.
By Friday, Yoshi better hope he has a somewhat convincing speech that can their explain recent activity (even if it's bs like usual). Even Hironobu cannot save him from a mob of confused and frustrated gamers.
In due time the players will respond just in kind as well, to be honest. Even I am at that stage. What was once filled with optimism (grossly misplaced), is filling with just complete and utter apathy. If I weren't playing with/for friends then I probably wouldn't be playing this at all right now.
I saw the euphemism a while ago, but it's the McDonalds of the MMO genre.
Not caring makes it very easy to ignore lessons you learned and gave a presentation on.

I wonder if people will start spamming questions regarding this matter on the upcoming stream this Friday.
the silence is deafening.
Due to lack of communication it is hard to know what is going on and easy to generate negative theories, but I have sometimes wondered if the success has gone to his head and he is living in a can't do no wrong world now.
"I don't need these people, I can have an MMO without the people I am that good!" Lol.
These things are slow to respond though, and currently the data probably still says "it's fine-ish". People can hang on for a while (exhibit a is me lol ......). On one hand this just might be a personal issue and everyone is drink mana from up high, but on the other hand I wonder if only failing will wake up the silent ship.
Wasn't it removed by the plugin developer already? If they don't acknowledge the privacy breach, then it technically doesn't/didn't exist tbh. And it's not like it's a wide-spread issue. It's very niche.
Could it be?...The AA's words ring true?!?!

Anyway-
They most likely won't care as much as people think they should. If they do actually acknowledge it then I am genuinely expecting nothing more then the generic "3rd party tools are bad, please don't use them" and that's really about it and they move on.
Over 962,000 characters have been added to Generall’s database. If the Lucky Bancho numbers are to be trusted, that means the vast majority of FFXIV players are now represented in this database, including all retainer information, location history, alt accounts, and account IDs. In addition, there are multiple other databases being run as well. So this issue affects the vast majority of FFXIV players. Square Enix only refuses to comment because it is a poor and struggling company and cannot hire someone to maintain a team.
More specifically, Yoshi-P has admitted to micromanaging his employees and maintaining a strict schedule and KPIs. This means that an emergent exploit like this isn’t on the schedule. Anyone trying to fix this would have to do it in his or her spare time, off the clock. That’s Yoshi-P’s system. Not every company is like that. But he likes it, and Square Enix likes it because he is the only competent producer left. SE is so dysfunctional and worthless that companies don’t want to buy it out. That’s worse than Blizzard.
im expecting whatever countermeasures they introduce to open up further exploits tbh. or to be so ineffective as to be circumvented on the same day or week at most.
"In due time," nah it's already happening. They lost like 400,000 people according to that one site that tracks lodestone garbage, and if you look at the player trends on steamcharts we're edging into 2020 levels of player activity. This is with roughly 2 months to go before 7.2.
These forums lock you out of commenting if you haven't logged onto the game in 14 days. It's an effective way of silencing critics who were moved enough to actually unsubscribe. If they really cared about player feedback (they don't), these types of restrictions would not exist, because devs would be eager to hear from quitters to learn why they were about to leave.
Only reason I can even post right now and say all this is because I logged in during the free login campaign. I imagine in 10ish days I'll be gone again though. Just remember, everyone you speak to on these forums is paying to continue posting here. The people who actually put their money where their mouth was were all effectively soft-banned.
The fact they're so cagey about what exactly the countermeasures will RESULT IN is a huge red flag.
No one is asking for them to explain what the countermeasures will do.
What people want is a hard, concrete guarantee: "It will be impossible to obtain anyone's PID after the patch through the client."
They failed to say this. Because, they are panicking and don't even have an actual solution right now. They're literally winging it in real time.
