Please implement some baseline MMO features in 8.0

Mostly concerning the UI and UI customization. The total lack of any inbuilt on-screen proc trackers is baffling, that's why I always get tired of playing Dancer and Bard.

I like how there is a huge pop-up when your retainers sell something but not for actual combat purposes.

Best you can do is to macgyver a hotbar in the middle of your screen and put the proc skills as macro /micon version there, but you still have the problem that your camera gets stuck if you click on them accidentally, because there is no ''clickthrough'' option for hotbars, another feature that WoW had like 20 years ago.

I like that you don't have to spend hours for UI Customization. WoWs Interface is a shitfest and raids are designed with addons in mind that trivialize everything to some extend.

Procs are easy enough to track by looking at your hotbar. Most people who do raids move everything near their hotbar - status effects, target bars, etc. Procs usually glow or make a system sound anyway.

I do think clicking is an issue. Click a hotbar button, it targets a dragoon doing positionals, preventing all attacks, especially if you click in a gap between them or the nameplate hovers over the bar.

I think this game stopped caring what other MMO's do to innovate after they did 2.0. When everyone else offered cola, pepsi, fanta and sprite. 14 switched to tap water after a small stint of a cola-knock off and was like "Please enjoy tap water, it never betrays you and is always the same flavor"

At this phase, after seeing Endwalker and Dawntrail, I don't think they are going to do changes until their sub numbers drop massively. And even then I wouldn't be too confident on it not being just another emergency band-aid "sorry" until they reverted back to their old ways. This game needs new direction, if its not the directions fault and its company meddling and budgetary reasons? We are ROYALLY SCREWED.

The devs are afraid of change, but what's more worrying is that the community is clinging to not changing either and still sticks to defense and absolutely marring this game into that tapwater state. I bet above me or below me there's going to be a "I like it the way it is" comment by the time I've finished this comment.

There are features I'd like to see of course, but for combat specifically I tend to think FFXIV does quite well keeping you informed.


Besides the shiny graphics on the buttons, are you looking for the WoW curves around the character? I think it's funny though because they chose no addon route, now our add-ons are more powerful than WoW's. Oops.

Can't you just look at your hotbar?

As someone who played a lot of Dancer, I feel like that's becoming more and more of an issue (and thus tending to favor jobs with completely static rotations while severely impacting ones that are proc heavy).

It was rad when mechanic tells were more in your face and straightforward. Now that the norm has increasingly become needing to keep an eye on boss gestures or on battlefield features (and the traditional telegraph almost always being too late except maybe during a "showing you" phase at the start of a fight), though, the need to keep a constant eye on your hotbar for procs has become a millstone.

I remember when I did the trial for 6.5 MSQ and on our first pull (where we wiped), we were doing just fine until late in the fight suddenly 5 people insta-deleted. Somehow I survived, along with the tanks (unfortunately, it wasn't quite enough to finish it). But with how much I had on my own plate (DNC procs/dance moves order + dodging what I needed to dodge), I still to this day have no idea what the heck everyone else failed to dodge ... (And then add with my work hours I'd have had to be a raid lead had I went ahead with recruiting a static ... aaaaaaa.)

Basically we're already getting to the point of fights that feel like trying to do WoW fights without the aid of DBM, while even this level of QOL lags as well.

Heck, in general it feels like SE have gone from making "the game to go to because it ticked certain boxes you liked about WoW while doing stuff better" to the polar opposite situation (in which WoW ticks boxes that you liked about FFXIV while doing stuff better) ...

I'm all for a more friendly in-built UI customization to make tracking stuffs better (DoT multiple targets would like to have a word with you, too). Although the one that pops sentence on the middle of my screen like retainer business and most of DT content/rehaul messages are IMHO too intrusive & distracting, I actually wished we can delete that or at least MOVE it.

Good for you. Some people would like the option to have more customisation though.

Honestly DNC has too many procs and it is annoying to be glued to the hotbar to not overcap and everything else than actually enjoying the game you're playing.

There's no shortage of people beating difficult content on Dancer. Seems like the issue is more on the individual player than the UI.

I used to struggle with that on Dancer initially, but I hardly play Dancer. It would become pretty easy for someone that mains it. I used to find it harder on Dancer because pressing certain procs would overwrite others, such as the ones generated by Flourish. This no longer happens and it's a lot harder to do it wrong now. There are sounds played when many things proc or cap as well.

I didn't find it a problem leveling it to 100 tbh (which I did over days/weeks in daily roulettes). If a given job has buff-based procs or gauge-based procs you can sometimes track them via the Status Effect and Job Guage UIs, which you can place somewhere that your eyes can see.

I agree that this is quite an adjustment to make. It took me a while to pay more attention to my environment, especially when I played something other than tanks.

I find it most distracting on melee DPS actually. It's very hard to pay attention to the environment while doing their rotations, positionals and bursts.

But I find ranged DPS pretty braindead in comparison, including Dancer. Probably the worst part of Dancer for me now is actually having the dances overlap when I need to do mechanics, because that's 6 random buttons with very quick recast times. To achieve it I sort of look at it with the bottom of my eyes and hope I saw it right while doing mechanics.

I've always found Bard a bit of a problem with this though because keeping the DoTs up while looking at procs and mechanics a lot can mean that, when you look at the DoTs again, they vanished before you could refresh so it's safer to refresh early. Bard's procs are harder as well, because you have to resist the urge to use one of them until it reaches 3 stacks, or it does less damage, while keeping track of song timers.

I actually think the end part is hard on most jobs tbh, especially the Extreme version. Even SMN. Front or back cleaves, stacks that can land on a healer who is on the other side of the arena, Ahk Morn drops that need to be coordinated right in the safe lane, quite devastating raid-wides that need healing or mit, the slice cleaves where snapshotting can wreck you. Most of my clears were aided by us all using mit like Reprisal, Shake It Off, Nascent Flash and other jobs doing the same.

It's always felt that way though. In Heavensward, the simpler design was made up for by how punishing the rotations were - keep-up buffs, combos expiring after 3 seconds, ranged attacks or certain GCDs resetting the rotation, doing the rotation wrong resulting in losing the other half of the rotation until the next cycle, some things overwriting other things, etc. Dragoon is real simple as 60 now but it was a handful at the time just to do it right.

Question to people rebelling against this QoL. Why? Why are you taking a stance of "everyhing is okay, no need for a change" vs. "QoL change / ui customization" this baffling

I agree that we need lots of UI and QoL improvements.

But proc trackers aren't on my list or even in my mind since that's what the hotbar, job guage, status effects and proc sounds are for.

You wouldn't even need a specific proc tracker, just an improvement to the status effects UI.
Let players split it into personal effects and party effects, so you can drag your own job buffs somewhere that is easiest for you to see during the mechanics dance and increase the size without making every buff on you gigantic.

it's useless to debate with cavemens by their logic video games are useless because you could play outside with sticks, rocks and your imagination but here they are enjoying a useless Qol improvement as per their logic.

I'm not against UI Improvements in general but it should integrated into the game by default instead of relying on addon authors.

Pay attention to flyover text and your self-buffs. You can adjust and split the self buffs from all other buffs. Self buffs include "blah blah ready" to indicate you have proc'ed something. Flyover text is a little harder to pay attention to because it's not as customizable, but you can literally make your self buffs 150% the size and dead center in your screen if you're having trouble.

Because that could give nor increase the anxiety of our beloved player base who sometimes struggles to put their ID/Password.

Like some DNC won't even use the partner buff because their anxiety issues.

As gcbtw stated this game should cater to newbies and players who have never ever played a video game before

I have not seen anyone mention addons in this thread except for you. People just want more options when setting up their HUD.

Eh I did, but!!!!! I don't think it's relevant, what is the false choice of having add-ons and devs that make a decent UI?

What should have been happening in WoW all along is that they see an addon of abnormal popularity and realize that should be base game. They have, rarely, done this with like bags and stuff... But there is no reason that a company can't go "oh my God that should be default" lol.

For example DBM / Cact... Technological thing.. should probably not be part of the game, but I don't care that it would be an option.

Yet, using wow as an example, those wardrobe, event quest tracking (is being added), anything from that plumber / immersive quest / narcissus creator, etc, should just be gobbled up.

Add-ons are just an inevitable, imo, and I made the comment that you can't stop them and it would be better to control them. So my post said by trying to dodge the issue they ended up leaving us a more powerful system than WoW.

Even if there were add-ons the game should actively be working on UI. This isn't a one or the another, or at least shouldn't be.

This feels somewhat revisionist. The ability to rely exclusively on telegraph training wheels to show you were to stand without thinking is a relatively new phenomena and one of the main things that a lot of people didn't like about casual content in Endwalker. Untelegraphed AOEs have existed since ARR. It has always been incredibly common to have to look at the enemy's cast bar or animation to know what they're doing. How many ram's/dragon's voice, hot wing/tail, tonze swings, etc. are there in the game?

Just moving out of the orange marker before damage happens is not an engaging gameplay experience.

It's not unreasonable for people to push back on using limited dev time and resources to address frivolous non-issues that are already easily solved by just glancing at the bottom of your screen.

There is a difference between someone asking for a genuine quality of life update that makes an area of the game less cumbersome and someone asking for an entirely new feature to be added because they can't be bothered to slightly move their eyeballs.

I wish I could get money for parroting these old tired defense lines for SE's old, dated and lazy design with a lack of innovation.

People with 45 wives and 22 dogs, and 50 children and 10 000 jobs can't engage in more than 10 minutes per day, so the content is kept very minimal :(

Dudes and dudettes, just look at todays update. They have to take a WEEEEEEK to fix a single botched line of japanese dialogue entering the EN version. A WEEEEEK.

Re: Dancer

IMHO, dancer is like my...4th main job? So not REALLY main. If I played dancer more, I think I would get muscle memory of where the red/blue/yellow/green abilities are on my hot bar without having to look. Is that true for dancer mains?

Assuming it is, a small QoL would be to simply have the colored auras around your character until you did the ability. (So glow blue = use blue ability, then your aura turns yellow or whatever)

It's not too hard, but having to glance at my Simon-Says hotbars and dodge can be daunting. And yes, it's a skill issue for me, thus the top "muscle memory" question.

The dancer thing feels comparable to Warrior still not having a Storm's Eye timer on their gauge. Not sure why people are so against it. There is a reason more and more jobs are getting additional information on their gauges. Looking at your hotbar and buffs constantly is annoying. This type of change is not even off the table considering they make changes to the UI for other jobs almost every expansion.

Personally I'd like Dancer procs to be more visually clear as well. Sure I can look at a bar and it feels okay, but it would feel even better if I could have a better indicator for it than just the glowy hotbar icon.

Lets see that Cutting Edge and Mythic raiding status before nerfs if addons trivialize combat so much

Addons also just add a ton of customization and help disabled people. FFXIV lacks even the most basic support for the latter.
