By 8.0, YoshiP will no longer have any justifiable excuse as to why Hroths and Vieras cannot wear hats, since no new race/gender is being developed.

Not to say the current situation is excusable, but I can imagine him saying: "Sorry we cannot give you hats because we're busy developing Male/Female variation of Hroth/viera" which will no longer be valid by 8.0

I think its foolish to think they have good excuses for most of the problems with this game but the community has way too much of a parasocial relationship with the devs to rationalize that...

One modder is able to do it and keep up with it. Any semblance of an excuse fell apart once that started.

When I read this I immediately think of the video I recently found where somebody fixes a problem with the graphical update in a matter of minutes, I posted about it in the eyebrows thread, too...

They have no excuses already. Retrofitting old hats, OK, clearly can't be that complicated since fans have done it ages ago, whatever.
But failing to make sure NEW hats fit everyone? C'mon now.

The fuck they are doing not making new hat and hair wearable for 2 races.

The reason why female hrothgar can't wear NEW hats, despite being the newest race and could easily circumvent these issues by learning from the male hrothgar mistakes, really is beyond me. I'm convinced they're either lazy, or do this on purpose.

'tis a shame that people have to think it as a norm that Viera/Hroth can't use hats.
But expecting anything else really is setting yourself up for disappointment.

I mean, for a long time a lot of player were having so kind of para social involvement with the devs team... there is still some to defend the shit we are getting served and think this is "normal".

it's been 6 years since ShB and the drama around hat and hair and yet there is not improvement. Can't defend that.

I think dev are regarding this as a very minor issue. Why?
Just look around, most people don't wear hat (they turned off the hat visibility or hlamed it with glasses).
So why bother making hat compatible with the few races that have this issue? they must think that's a waste of time.

Miqos might be joining you in the same boat soon, with how many instances there already are of hats and helmets that don't have ear slots for Miqos, or the Vanguard Fending armour that cuts off Miqo tails and being labelled as "Working As Intended". Now I look through the melee job sets for Chaotic and despite being modelled with tail armour - No tails.

The quest that you get it from even has dialogue suggesting putting it on Nitowikwe. They've got to be aware of what they're doing

Yeah I literally came here to post about this.
The NPC that gives you the outfit asks you to try and get Nitowikwe to wear it, as a nod to the glamour system for the custom delivery NPCs. But you go to do it, and the hat can't be seen....

I believe you have a point here.

Hrothgar and Viera's lack of headwear is most likely due to the same reason that male Midlanders cannot combine scruff and beards and in most cases can't even have a beard.

SQEnix and the Japanese playerbase probably do not think it is important enough, but as a westerner, the fact that there is only one mature-looking male midlander face and the rest look like early teenagers is rather perplexing (and bizarre to me) in comparison to what other MMO/RPGs offer.

I'll give them a break because the game is old but other MMORPGs have worked on updating their character creators over time, and I believe it's a crucial aspect of an MMORPG to have a diverse cast of faces in todays day and age.

It's my belief that they just make the gear for hyur and slap it on everyone else. Alot of races lost unique features and became more 'standardized' due to their 'fancy' polygon? unification.
It's just laziness really.

My male Viera can't wear the hat either. It's just...baffling at this point, really.
I actually can't understand the thought process behind releasing a new item in such a state.
There is no reason for this hat to be unwearable. Not a single one. It's new. It should be usable by every existing race there is.
Them always repeating the clipping issue, don't make me laugh, as if that hasn't existed before Viera and Hrothgar were a thing. Just look at Miqo tails, and that's just one example. But we learned to just accept the clipping. It's maybe annoying but it's fine. And it's no reason to just keep wearable stuff from two races.

It's almost offending at this point how little they care and how they lie in our faces (and don't even try to hide it).

The only reason I didn't wear hats was because I wanted to wear glasses. Now that the eyewear slot is a thing I've seen more people wear hats then before. Seems a bit tone deaf to introduce the system and then still have two races not being able to wear it.

The new years letter that went out from Yoshi was all about Fan Fest, so I think anyone going to fan fests need to go wearing bunny ears and chanting, "WE WANT HATS" because they can ignore all the internet crying they want, but disrupt their precious circle-jerk event and maybe they'll listen.

If viera and hrothgar are added with hats in mobile before retail... I think I'll need to unsub. I can only take so much copium.

Every time it's April Fools day.. my poor Hroth whom finally had overcome his "suspiciously expensive blue liquid" drinking addiction instead had his mind being haunted by the memories of Jandelaine presenting his "Ear devouring wigs" and his counterfeited photo's of 2B that at night time turns into a laughing TwoBe'gar. ;w;

I find it really strange. They're going out of their way to disable hats on Viera and Hrothgar for seemingly no reason.

It's not some kind of technical or time limitation, because hats are enabled for Miqote, Elezen and Au Ra. They even make special versions of hats with ear holes/pockets for the former two races, and let Au Ra horns just clip through.

Yet for Viera/Hrothgar they don't even simply hide the ears when hats are equipped which would require practically no effort. It's a conscious decision the devs are making, like some sort of ideological opposition to the idea of those races wearing hats or helmets, but that doesn't make any sense and I don't understand why.

Miqo'te ears (and, to a somewhat lesser extent, elezen and lalafell ears) have been getting chopped off by headgear since at least late Heavensward.
