Booted mid-craft and haven't been able to get to Character selection with errror message of Cannot Connect to Primal Server (Primal Exodus).
This yet another failure of ddos mitigation?

Yep. Every single NA Data Center is down right now. No telling if it's a DDoS yet, but it most likely is given that this is the time a lot of people play on Sunday nights.

Yeah, entire NA dataceter is down
Has to be a ddos attack. I am on Aether data center with the same happening, also the loadstone has started to load very slowly for a couple mins and then just started to give a message saying the site has encountered a technical error.
got 2002 as well. Aether - Midgardsormr NA ... tried going back in game 3 times to no avail :(
Yep, definitely a DDoS. Was in the middle of FRU when the servers went down. Now I'm just staring at the server page waiting for them to come back up so I can keep progging.
Same for Brynhildr on Crystal, got dc'd, can't recoonect, get a lobby error.
This is really inexcusable, and the fact that it's isolated to the NA servers, at least to me, speaks of a complete failure on the IT department in that region. Find some better people or better policies, please. Or both.
Was on Crystal/ Mateus with a character and in the middle of a funeral for a fellow guild member. One of the other pcs was about to do a speech and suddenly Boom!
The scope seems too vast and lingering to be a DDOS in my opinion. Unless we're entering a new phase of cyber warfare, I think something happened to the physical data center building housing NA's servers. Guess we'll find out when Square Enix sends out an update. Hopefully it's just a freak accident and they get everything up and running ASAP and don't have to worry about future issues like this.
If they do say it was a DDOS and give us the same generic response, I'm probably going to suspend my sub because that means Square is unable/unwilling to keep the game stable and we shouldn't be paying for unreliable services. Why bother paying for a game that can be taken down on a literal continental scale at a moment's notice by any random fucker with some programming knowhow? But we'll cross that bridge only if we come to it.
Of COURSE they pick today. It's my birthday, and my wife and some FC mates were gonna do an impromptu map night to celebrate in lieu of anything IRL thanks to bad weather.
Not at all, a ddos can last for a good amount of time. Back when played WoW before quitting and switching to this with a vastly better community, a ddos could last 30 mins to hours. It all depends on how determined the person/s performing the attack are at keeping it going. There is no way to prevent a ddos from happening, if they are determined enough to get past inital preventions then they will make it happen.
For once, this might actually be out of SE's control.
Some reports out of the Sacramento area indicate a power outage near the data center.

Same here. I figured it might be because of the massive storm hitting the US right now, but I doubt it would be affecting the servers in CA.
According to is.xivup.com the servers should be back up now.
Edit: and tested, was able to get back on
If that's the case, shouldn't they have backup generators to keep the servers up and running.
well the servers seem to be back up (for now), i was able to connect to primal again
Dynamis is still down. Tried 5 times now to login and still get 2002 lobby error every time.
confirmed, Primal Exodus back online and I was able to log in.
Crystal and Dynamis still seem down as of 18:13 PST
Edit: Crystal is up, so I expect Dynamis will be back soon
Dynamis is back up and running.
