Sasme low effort event every year, meanwhile in guild wars 2 we get races, ingame glamour to get with event currency, a buttload of achievments and events that will be filled with players all time around
What really irks me somehow (might just be a me-problem though) is that we barely get any new titles for those kinds of events anymore. Besides for crossover stuff, that is.
I dunno, titles like Half-boiled Hero/Heroine or how it's called in german "Eierlegende" ('Egg-legend'...it's glorious) were kinda funny and special. I miss them :(
Generally speaking, we get a clothing item from the event every other year.
I already own 7 christmas (sant/reindeer/snowman/choir...) glamours, decorated trees, snowy trees, indoor trees, white indoor trees, small trees, opened boxes, closed boxes, wreaths, wall/tabletops items, orchestrion rolls, mounts, foods, ice walls and walls, chocobo bardings, and I'm sure I'm forgetting something.
Still, this year they made something I don't already own from past events.
- 1x choco-barding
- 2x tabletops
- 1x wall mounted
- 1x orchestrion roll
If 5 new items is "only" I fail to understand what's "enough"-
Bardings are probably at the bottom of things I want anymore from these events.
I already have Christmas barding from another Starlight
Celebration. Don't really need any more Chocobo barding.
I think the bigger problem is everything is given after like 2 quest max where they could give slightly more but add like a special thing to do.
I still remember one of the Halloween event we got a special and unique way of doing a dungeon it was simple for sure but was still a change!
I am sad they didn't keep doing those
So we agree its still better than whatever shit ff14 devs do yea? I don't consider a quest line where you have to teach 9 kids in pairs of 3 what the christmas spirit is about by nodding at them, content. GW2 is griiiiiiindy sure but at least your busy for a couple more minutes
I’ll admit, I’m one of the people who probably contributed to the normalization of the ‘two quest’ structure in seasonal events. I’ve started skipping all the holiday cutscenes because the lore feels so inconsequential to the larger story that it’s barely canon in my eyes. Even the event NPCs rarely appear outside of these occasions, which makes them feel isolated from the rest of the game. On top of that, I find it frustrating to be forced into a mini-game or FATE, especially since I have alts. The repetition just isn’t enjoyable for me anymore. I'm unfortunately grateful for the two quest structure and I shouldn't be.
"Players will be able to obtain the Snowstreamer mount, along with 50 aetheryte tickets, by purchasing or gifting three Twitch subscriptions while watching eligible FFXIV channels during the Starlight Celebration campaign period."

I play an old mmo private server with events spanning the entire month. Those guys make all their revenue off donations.
Idk what square is even doing here, frankly. It's embarrassing.
The fact that this mount is an existing mount but with the scarf color slightly altered, and then they ask you to drop like 40 dollars for it. It's all so low effort.
A Christmas emote or framer kit would have more novel than yet another barding.
Also lol at the paid recolor Christmas mount.
I can't remember every event in 10 years but I don't think there have been many we've gotten orchestrion rolls from. Usually you'd have to buy those when they were available with event currency from a vendor. So it's kind of nice to get one as a reward. A framer's kit could have been nice, too, but maybe they can use that idea for next year.
The mugs are cute I guess.
I think the barding is cute, and I'm curious what the song will end up being
The housing decorations will be nice for people that want to decorate their homes or apartments / fc rooms for the holidays
I really don't know what SE could do to make people happy, because it seems like no matter what people will always complain lol
I've seen GW2 mentioned and I like their events, but it's the same thing every year whereas here it's a continuous storyline with recurring characters
It'd be cool of SE to add more to do, that I agree with. It'd be fun to have snowball fights or other things to get in the mood. These could be in the form of fates either in the cities or in some of the starter zones
I don’t understand SE giving housing items as event rewards when so many players do not even have housing and apartment storage space is so limited. Wouldn’t be so bad if we had an armoire for housing items.
Anyone remember when events used to have real stories that were engaging? They were like that back in ARR, HW, and SB.
I miss them.
Annual event rewards were low effort after the second or third year. Why are people only complaining now?
Complaining just for the fun of it, it seems. This is not entirely out of line with past events, if anything we're getting slightly more than usual events, just because it isn't a glam or mount doesn't mean it's inherently lazy. The issue here is that it doesn't interest you personally.
People did complain before, but there were other positive aspects of the game to outweigh the events being bad. Now the quality of everything else but the encounter design(which people still debate about) has also dropped and the patches are too far apart for what they offer.
I like the barding, but we don't even get a hot choco emote from a seemingly hot choco themed event? Also what in the hells am I supposed to do with all these housing items they keep giving us, I sure as hell don't have enough room in my apartment and even if I did I'm not gonna fill my house with random seasonal decorations like a warehouse.
atleast we finally got one of those friggen wall posters. I dunno why its been so long since we have had one of these...
Literally the EASIEST bit of effort they could spend on making those an item. Get template, apply picture they already made
The rewards themselves, there's nothing wrong with them. The issue is that it's the same type of reward. This is my third Starlight-themed barding, yet for All Saints we only ever got one. We got two emotes for All Saints, none for Starlight.
There is comfort in the familiar, in tradition. I like FFXIV's traditions in fact. But relying overly much on them makes things boring and stale. Mix it up a little, give us another spooky barding or mount for All Saints, and an emote like drink eggnog or hot chocolate, or eat a cinnamon roll for Starlight. Or some kind of emote relating to ice or snow, or as suggested in this thread, a sled mount or a framer kit. There must be something the devs can think of.
It's not just a problem of same old same old, it's as OP stated, low effort as well. I've seen less and less effort put into festivals every year. Think of when we could sing in the Starlight choir. Now it's just talking.
This is a symptom of things going wrong with the game in general but that would take me off topic.
Curious how you're spending $45 on Twitch subs, when they're $5 each.
Except people complain every year, at every seasonal event. People probably complained during the 2015 Starlight Celebration too, when it just had reindeer antlers/gloves/boots, and a beard + reused christmas hat model.
Similarly, 2013 Starlight Celebration had a 3-piece snowman outfit, and a basic looking barding (the other sets were introduced in 2010/2011).
Amount of effort spent on seasonal events has always been very similar, if already low to begin with.
If they put titles as event quest rewards, they're lost forever afterwards because you can't buy them like other rewards, you have to do the quest. I would rather that titles go where they'll be available later.
I've got no opinion on the price as I don't know if that's accurate, but if they put the recoloured snowman in the event then you know people would be bitterly complaining at the devs' audacity to make this year's reward a recoloured version of a previous year's reward – and if they made a unique Starlight mount and put it in a Twitch promo instead of in-game, people would fume about that even more.
A cheap recolour of an existing mount is a better thing to see put in the external promo, really. If you don't like them doing cross-promos then you can easily ignore it because you're not missing out on much.
