Glamour Outfits are embarrassingly badly implemented

I genuinely don't understand the design of the new Glamour Outfits, because it feels like it should have been such an easy addition to the Glamour Dresser. Being able to arrange a full armour set into one slot is a very good change, but combining them into a set removes the (potentially expensive) dyes already on it, and you also can't even dye them after combining them, making it pointless over just storing the set in the Armoire and getting an extra Glamour Dresser slot from it. On top of that, sets with alternate gear pieces like the Island Sanctuary sets need to be stored as two separate outfits, forcing you to get multiple of the same item rather than just allowing any of the alternate gear to complete the set and store both versions in one outfit slot.

The code for the Dresser is famously shaky, but surely it can't be so bad that it has to make a worse version of the already highly-limited Armoire to store items with dye data that the code already has a system for. I'd genuinely rather have them add a new "Armour Set" option to the Armoire that works in the way it does now, because at least then it's consistent with how the rest of it works.

I was honestly fine with most of the implementation (having to get multiple copies of one item is stupid, but whatever, it's something else to work towards), but what really tilted me is seeing that we cannot save the actual Makai Gear as Glamour Outfits, but we CAN store the Tarnished Makai Gear (the Gold Saucer copies) as one. Feel kind of shafted, having done so much PVP to get every single Makai item.

I really hope more items get the Glamour Outfit feature in the future.

Imo, transitioning into a proper glamour log, I think it's okay the new system doesn't save them (in the long run) but they should have something in place so dyes don't become so painful. Ultimately though I think a logical system would be the glamour log stores the set data scrapped, the glamour plates store the dyes and any other attachments to items, and dyes are made to be permanent unlocks with a GW2 like style (except if we can reduce overlapping colors in the interface that'd be nice).


That the items act like void storage is interesting but imo overly unneeded vs just working easily. Also for outfits with variations, unlock the variation with the one missing item if the other pieces are already present. If they're afraid of duplication for de synthesis then tag items withdrawn with inability to do that to.

They said at one point that they tried putting a glamour dresser in a house and it crashed the server. This is a very well coded game.

Na, I remember hearing this as well. When someone used the housing glamour dresser, and someone else moved or removed it, the server went buh-bye. Many video games are held together by duct tape and prayers lol.

I have heard it that way too, from previous interviews. I could be wrong on the exact reason (they were very evasive), but apparently that glamour dresser isn't just a gimmicky way of "I have to click this as the only way to open my glamour log", but the object might be connected to the player's collection of items somehow. It can't be both your glamour dresser and someone else's glamour dresser at the same time, so it can only exist in solo instances like the inn rooms where there can never be anyone else in there with you -- there are not enough safeguards for the game internally to understand what should happen if ever another player interacted with someone else's glamour dresser?

The inventory system is styled like old C code, it's all very exact with specific memory constraints known and all of it is ready to go, I imagine newer systems are more dynamic. The armory and other log are functionally like WoW void storage than a glamour log in other games, so they're more like items than most other games log systems. There are some ancient ancient quotes on how they did memory but it seems like due to 1.0 being so laggy they chose to go 'known and efficient' to not do that again. Memory is pre-allocated/loaded. Or at least that's old, very old, info.

It's interesting that it's a bank (glamour log), but I'm not sure it really needed to be that way if it cost us dynamic interaction and scalability.

Indeed. As someone who had never had issues with glamour dresser slots, this was completely unnecessary to me. I need glamour PLATES, not whatever this non-sense is.

I do like that they are trying to find solutions. But honestly I would even be willing to wait a bit so they can rework the entire glamour system. Because if they are limited to the point of adding features that only take in consideration one part of a glam (equipement) but not the other (dye) why bother. Everything is so wonky.

I wish we could
-Use any gear to unlock their "glam version", a little bit like minions and mounts. I know it would make it impossible to remove the gear and eventually use it as gear, but I don't think anyone uses the glamour dresser in that way.
-Store dyes in a special inventory like crafting cristals / Or having to unlock dyes
-Have enough glamour plates for each job in the game. That would be at least 33 with crafters and gatherers. I wonder why we can have a 100 gearsets but not glamour plates, maybe they could make a similar system ? I have no idea how their game code works though.

Automatically against any system that causes players to lose something they paid real money for. (Dyes should've never been monetized at all, yet here we are I guess.)

The fact this requires you to spend more money on consumable items is actually just greedy in my book.

Apart from Squares need to monetize Jet Black and Pure White, why do we need to have over 100 different dye items when other games use things like a log/unlock system? Imagine if you will, with enough Pure White/Jet Black, you get to unlock that dye and use it without ever having to consume a pot of it. I'd care a lot less that I'd lose my dyes from using the outfit system if I could use those expensive dyes on plates with no concern. The only reason to reject this system would be because of the markets, some get lucky with dyes and would want to sell excess, as well as the aforementioned monetization from Square.

I just dislike how annoyingly rare/expensive those 2 colours in particular are. I think you'd see a lot less complaining about how dyes aren't saved if it didn't cost people an arm and a leg just to stock up on those dyes. Put them in Island Sanctuary or make them semi-common drops in Eureka or something.

My personal suggestion: instead of having individual dye items, have it so you dye items using only the base pigment materials you use to craft dyes now (i.e. "red pigment" would get you any shade of red, from rolanberry red to dalamud red), and the current specialty dyes require a second pigment item (call it, idk, "general-purpose dye intensifier" or whatever) that drops or is purchased from all the same places green-tier dyes drop now. Basically, it ensures the economy wouldn't completely collapse from the loss of a major market, but also means all normal quality dyes will be equally accessible, and all green-tier dyes will be as easily accessible as the currently easiest to obtain ones, driving down their average price *immensely*. I'd be surprised if that green-tier item would cost more than 10k a piece, which is still quite a lot, but is also, like. a fiftieth of the price of pure white or jet black dye at present, and cheaper than a lot of green-tier dyes are now.

I've suggested similar in the past; either way I want them to make Jet Black / Pure White to be less of a pain to get in the process. I'd still prefer a dye log system myself, but a singular Red Dye that can be anything from Dalamud to Rose, Salmon, or Wine would be something I'll gladly take over what we have now.

Agreed. Pieces should be dyeable after becoming a set, and we should be able to store all pieces of the set, including different versions of a specific part such as legs. Having the rest of the set repeated is quite a bother when browsing the dresser.

Also, it would be good to have an option to hide specific glamor pieces. For example, a set might have a hat that you will never use but will show up when browsing your stored glams.

So basically what they did was add new item that you can exchange with all set of gear which you can equip to multiple gear slots.
What they can possibly do is to add dye channel to these so you can dye the entire set.

Reason this feature is possible is becuase this won't put any stress to the server or data capacity of each char.
If what you said was possible we would get way more slots in dresser in the first place.

I'm pretty sure this has to do with the fact that only being able to put on glamour plates in sanctuaries/large cities is a leftover from 1.0.

common makai gear is an outfit from the gold saucer, the makai gear from the priest that is dyeable isn't.

The fact that encountering a single bug while developing a new feature made them give up and the community just accepts that as reasonable is astonishing.

I like it as it saves a ton of space in the dresser, the fact it can't store dye sucks, but just leave those ones out, any other sets that I haven't slapped expensive dyes on are condensed to save space.

Looking forward to them expanding it to include higher level gear, just being able to store artifact gear as one slot will save me a ton of space.

Everyone has the same Orchestrion list so this is a simple toggle on and off. Getting a roll just unlocks that slot, not adding to it.

I know people who like to sell them will strongly disagree but I think dyes requiring a consumable needs to be removed. It should be you acquire it once and then you have access to that dye.

If they REALLY wanted to have a middle ground maybe require that dye to have been used once for each gear piece slot. But once you've used a dye on a gear type you should have it forever.

- Right, so although they've stated that we're only able to store a specific selection of items in the Glamour Dresser as Outfits - namely Lv.1 glam gear - they do plan on expanding the Outfit category to cover more sets in the future. As the Tarnished Makai gear are Lv1 glam version of the actual Makai gear - so the Tarnished gear is Outfit ready.
- As someone whose done enough PvP to also purchase all of the Makai gear, I was also frustrated with how much room it took up in my Glamour Dresser - however, don't be too afraid to trash the gear that you're not currently using. Once you've purchased a piece of Makai gear from the Wolves' Den you're able to re-purchase the same pieces from a Calamity Salvager (one in each of the three starter cities) or a Journeyman Salvager (housing vendor) for 1,000 gil each.

They sell rare dyes for real money, so the odds of them doing that are slim.

I'm holding out hope that this is a similar situation to when they first released the Glamour Dresser and you couldn't even retrieve items you put in there that they eventually changed. Maybe one day glamour outfits will be able to be dyed and/or it will resemble a proper glamour log.

I guess the degree to which you use the "dye in the dresser" feature would determine how you feel about the update. It definitely allows one to have more items in the dresser, but it is kind of a roundabout way to do that.

A full collection based system (log?) would be preferable, but I've kind of lost hope for that. The FFXIV team seem to be content with just adding on to existing systems rather than creating band new systems. That said, the armoire pretty much is a collection based system. It does require you to put stuff in it, but it seems just be a checklist of things you have. I have not seen any evidence that there are limits to the amount of items that can be storable. They keep adding more and they recently added a huge amount of shop items. I would say make everything storable (maybe improve the interface too) and let the glamour dresser be the place to put dyed duplicates.

The dye system is rather weak anyway. They seem to have specifically made dyes that rarely match colors actually used in clothing, then if you dye everything to "match" some items dye poorly. They also made some really odd choices with the double dye system.

I honestly would not be mad if they took the game offline for any amount of time required to fix all these massive issues with their coding. If that's even possible; I don't know enough about it. They could even offer in-game perks for people who stay subbed. Can't imagine that it'd take more than a month to implement it if they work on it behind the scenes.

Outfit Glamour - An Excellent Implemented Feature for Glamour Dresser / Gender-Items Unlocked for All

This feature really took me by surprise and I really like it.
I was waiting for an increase of slots in the Glamour Dresser, but this is way better.
That combined with the fact that some items can now be equipped regardless of gender implemented features lead to consider that a lot of good work has been put into those features.

-Slots-
So far, I have been able to insert around 70 Outfits into the Glamour Dresser.
So I was able to recuperate around 200 slots.
Now I have more room to buy other attire.

I could have retrieved around 10 more slots if some Costume-Set pieces weren't stored multiple (x2) times.
Thinking of how Costume Sets are organized, the implementation is understandable.
It seems like each Outfit can only store 1 item for each slot-type (Head, Body, Hands, Legs, Feet, etc.).
There might have serious technical barriers that prevent storing 2 items attached to the same slot-type in an Outfit.
(2 legs items into an Outfit)

It might be overcome in time depending on the success of the implementation of those features.
Will those features boost the transactions on the Online Store?
If it does, SE might invest in removing those constraints.

- Dye -
I've been avoiding applying dyes directly to attire pieces before storing them to the Glamour Dresser, applying dyes only on Glamour Plates.
It I need to change color and buy them in-game or from the Online Store, at 1$ a pot or 7.50$ for 10 pots.
In time, more colors might be implemented.


Those features were implemented to increase the income from the Online Store.
Supporting those features is to support the game overall.
All games are somehow customization oriented.
