Game crashing upon loading if after Queue

I've been having this problem since downloading the patch, ive tried restoring the game data but that made the game only black screen continuously, after that i reinstalled the game fully and got into the character selection screen, But that's as far as i can get.
As soon as i started to load into New gridania my game crashes with no error message or anything. Im not using the steam version of the game but all the fixes ive seen i other places only seem to help that version.

I tried on other characters of mine as well, I know this game isn't meant to run on well a hdd but sadly i do not have the storage to keep this game on my main C drive but it was fine just yesterday and this problem is just a major annoyance

I'm having the same issue, I've been using an ssd to load the game since I have shit storage capacity on my internal C drive. And that's worked for all of 6.X and 7.0, but this new patch apparently has some code that just corrupts it.

The strangest part is the patch worked for me for quite a while too. I was completely fine playing through all of the new MSQ and new alliance raid and letting the game idle for several hours with no issues whatsoever. But the moment I tried to use the aetheryte in New Gridania, my game immediately started crashing with no error code. I got it to work for a split second after using the launcher to move my character back to my starter city in Ul'Dah, but it crashed after a few seconds when I tried to teleport and now it just keeps crashing while loading into the game even if I change Worlds via the launcher. I wonder if maybe the graphical updates to the 2.0 areas is what's bugging the external installations (I only went to my house in-game for most of yesterday until I tried to go to New Gridania).

Just finished restoring game data and that did not help either. Any suggestions/advice on what to do would be appreciated (besides having to reinstall onto my C drive because as I mentioned: limited storage space).

Made a forum account just to say this is happening to me too. I also play off an external hard drive, but mine is an SSD. Game completely closes once I'm loading in to the game. No error message or nothing :( I hope someone comes up with a solution soon! I was going to try re-installing but these previous posts don't give me hope :(

Ah. I see I'm not the only person experiencing a similar issue since the new patch. >< Game was just fine before but something about the new patch makes it so every time I launch the game, it stops responding. I don't even make it to the main menu most of the time.

Update: I ended up biting the bullet and purged my C drive enough to have enough space for the game. Then I needed to do a complete reinstall (just moving the files over didn't work, guess it was indeed a file corruption and not just a file pathing issue). After I did all that, the game finally works. That being said, I am not certain if I will have enough space for all of 7.X or not. Especially if the devs get trigger happy and keep bloating future patches with graphical updates like the monster of a file that was 7.1 which was over 8gbs of data.

Hope someone finds a workaround for hdd/ssd users. I'd rather keep all my games there.

Forgive me, I'm computer dumb: So was the issue the fact that it was on an external? Or the fact that it needed to be clean re-installed? I've been purging and barely have enough space for the game on my C drive.

We tried everything, deleting the settings file, deleting all the game files, and re-installing it to disable all other programs running at the same time, re-installing the game, repairing the game, and still couldn't join any queue, as soon as we queue the game crashes and says an error has occurred. We are lost now as this is happening to one of our static members and we can't raid together any longer since the new patch.

Update on my part

There's clearly something that's corrupted in the files and i still cant wrap my head around it.
I'm kind of able to enter the game now but after a few minutes or more I crash again with no message or warning.
I've reinstalled nearly 6 times now if I counted right, 3 being restoring the files which seems to help in a way but not enough for the game to stay stable for me to play

Both in my case. I tried to just move the files over from the external to my internal drive initially and I still had the same issue. So I did a complete reinstall on my internal C drive too (deleted the files on my internal drive and re-downloaded the installer online). After that, it worked. You could try to reinstall the game on your external drive. But I didn't try it so no idea if it'd work or not. Later on in like a few patches, I might try to move the game back to my external drive and see if it's stable (because I also have way more space on my ssd than my C drive lol)

How often does the issue occur?

Could you provide the exact error message received, if any?
Are you running any additional programs alongside Final Fantasy XIV?
When the issue happens, is the PC over heating at all?
Were any update or changes made to the PC around the time of the issue?
Does this issue occur if the game is run in full screen mode? Does it happen in borderless or windowed mode?
