FFXIV PS3 Amazon Price and Release Date

Was searching some swag FFXIV Items on Amazon and came across this:

Does anyone else know if this info is correct? Obviously the release date is not, but I mean the starting price, cover and box art. Can't see me spending 40 dollars on something they know we already own.

Saw a news blurb about this on RPGamer yesterday. I guess the new retail copy (for those that don't already have it installed) will be $40.00 USD for PC. PS3 is TBD.

40 bucks does not speak of over riding confidence from SE. At the same time perhaps it is a strategy to provide savings and incentive to new players. If the game is great come 2.0, this 40 dollar price point for PC's is a great act on their part.

Oh even better pricing!

Now all I have to do is go to Total Recall and have them wipe the last 2 years of my life playing FF14, or maybe overwrite it with a more enjoyable experience (although I enjoyed enough to play and become leet enough to pwn noobs come 2.0 hahahahahah o.0).

Why? you shouldn't have to front $60-70 for an MMO with a subscription fee, I don't care how good it is.

regardless of what we should and shouldn't have to do, hehe, most game companies will charge whatever they can get away with. And as the status quo is around 60-70 dollars thats what any company that has faith in their game tries to get in the beginning.

So either SE doesn't have great faith in 2.0, they do have faith but also want to try to appease satisfied of scared off potential players or they are heralding the new age of less expensive video games (this one isn't very likely :P).

That's only true on consoles. PC games, even the biggest name ones, are often at least $10 cheaper than the console version- aside from the fact that services like Steam often have sales and random deals, whereas sales on console games are far less common.

the fact is 2.0 is not a brand new game. Depending on who you talk to, it's a re-release or a remake. I would not expect to pay full console price for either. That doesn't mean they don't have faith, it means they're smart and they know what their likely clientele are willing to pay.

Now, if the price was $10-20, I might start to question the quality, but even that's not a sure thing, because I've played some games in that price range that are amazing.

It may also be that SE didn't force an MSRP on them and it's Amazon that's being cautious about the selling price, and SE didn't have a hand in it.

Piracy isn't as rampant in the PC world as many developers claim- especially when you consider that consoles also have piracy.

Services like Steam, Desura, Direct2Drive, etc have vastly increased the amount of legitimately purchased PC games- especially Steam, because they have sales and discounts all the time. I can't tell you how many games I've just randomly bought because they were heavily discounted on a steam sale. I've discovered a lot of good games this way, in fact.

Actually I think Id love to play some steam games. I like tower defense and silly games like that and Im sure they'd have a good selection of such games for good prices.

Btw, You should go to the thread in my signature and post your opinion on Morgan Freeman narrating a FF14 trailer. Because... well its what the cool kids are doing these days. With just one post you become a swaggy leet hipster. :D

The date is just Amazon's default, it just marks the item was Dec 31st of the year it assumes the item will be released until a solid date is given.

The date matches what every game company that i have talk to playstation has said.
