Best Idea Ever Re: Time Gating Roulettes

I solved the puzzle!

The devs want time gating to keep the community from rushing through content and unsubbing.

The community wants to kill timegating because it makes our lives unnecessarily tedious, having to log in every day to maximize tomes.

So, for the ultimate solution... why not just do weekly gating instead of daily gating? Like instead of gate us at one run per day, make it seven per week. You could do all of your week's roulettes in one day if you'd like, or spread it out.

I'm actually surprised this isn't already the case. The community has made it clear that less gating is better, and this would be a nice compromise.

More importantly, though, Yoshi-P has stated numerous times since taking over that he wants this game to be casual friendly. Gating is definitely good for casuals (like me), but only to a point. Too much gating becomes more of a hinderance.

I'm literally who this game was designed for. I'm a lifelong Final Fantasy fan, but I work full-time and even have a 4-year-old. :o My game time is EXTREMELY limited. And in many ways, FFXIV is the perfect game given my busy schedule. Problem, though, is among actual busy people with full-time school or work, we don't always have an hour per night (or even 30 mins, or any time at all) to play those daily dungeon. The reality is that we sometimes have days when we have a few hours to play, but usually we can hardly play at all. That makes daily gating a massive nuisance that results in me playing less overall than I'd like to... and I know I'm not alone.

Weekly gating is simply the best idea ever. Make it happen, Yoshi-P! You know I'm right.

pretty sure the only way it could be more casual friendly now is... if it played itself.

New Job Proposal! Winner.

It has one button. The "I Win" button. It can equip any gear for glamour purposes. It's off the GCD, does 100,000,000 damage, and AOE heals for 1,000,000.

And you'll still need a full party to queue into current end game savage or ultimate content :D

I liked your idea at first but after thinking about it this system would probably help grindlords and hurt more casuals than it helps. Grinders will finish everything on Tuesday and then the queues will be fairly slow until the end of the week when casuals get off work and when procrastinators start panicking. Just look at how populated hunt trains are at reset compared to the middle of the week and then on weekends. Or the common consensus that all the best savage players in PF do reclears on reset. You might be fine with this but the average casual probably doesn't want to do all of their roulettes for the week in one or two sittings. I also think that sweaty grinders need to be stopped from their own bad habits sometimes.

Lastly, this would probably kill the Shatter Frontline map. The game mode itself seems unpopular and the achievement reward isn't as popular as the Onsal mount or the Seal Rock glam. I bet the lack of a daily roulette would cause most people to just wait for a map they want and then do 7 runs of it.

You can cap in a single day as it is. You don't need to have 7 days' worth of roulette bonuses available in a single day.

I like the idea personally

Let's say work's been vicious/internet outage/etc and I miss 3 days of Expert / Alliance (only two I really do besides sometimes MSQ if I feel like trying to getting a level and winning the 33% chance of getting Prae. Trial rewards suck for time vs reward, same with Normal Raid and Levelling is a drag if you draw something sub 60)

If my weekend isn't too bad I can play catchup at max capacity, doing 3 Experts on Saturday and 2 on Sunday and capped for the week (oops, not day).

Then people will do all of their roulettes in one day and complain there's nothing to do for the rest of the week.

If only there weren't so many Flower Smelling Champions. :p

I do think there should be rolling caps that expire. Maybe after a month when a sub would typically expire? If you're able to log in one weekend that month but you go hard with the grinding I do think you ought to be able to attain everything you could have from that month.

It wouldn't change anything everyone that grinds has capped tomestones by the latest Wednesday, classes levelled in the first week or two of expansion release and all clears finished by wed. The cap limits/daily limits dont hurt grinders it hurts casuals they are way too restrictive.

There is literally no reason to run roulettes for capping tomestones that late in a patch, unless you are feeling adventurous or wanna toss a coin on which players you'll get with you, you can just do hunt trains and be done with your weekly cap.
