We Got a “No Pillars” Housing Layout, But What About The Windows and Trim?

Like everyone I was happy to hear CS3 was going to add a layout that gets rid of pillars in homes, but I was kind of assuming the purpose was to allow housing items to be placed flush against the wall. This could eliminate the need to create walls of partitions for clean corners or to cover existing windows. However the white trim on the new layout just kinda looks like smaller pillars, one that might still interfere with items/partitions. On top of that, the windows are still an obstacle for players to have to cover up.

Alternatively, what are your thoughts on the team making a layout that's essentially a blank canvas?

I'd be in favor of a blank canvas. I was hoping housing mirage would eliminate floors and the staircases if desired so that we could make our own, actually.

Update to the 7.1 special site shows the pillar-less version for mediums, and they changed the orientation of the staircases slightly…

Hopeful that maybe we’ll get other layout styles in the future!

removing the pillars is already great, they were so obnoxious to work around.

remving the staicases would also be nice, but the new ones seem a lot smaller and easier to work around already.

They also look modern too, so it should fit with modern looking builds. I'm excited to use them since the pillars are indeed annoying to cover up if you didn't utilize them as part of the scenery. Now I can build my indoor garden without the pillars in the way :3


One thing I do hope we can do in the future is to be able to change the color of the stairs and rails.

Same. I was hoping we could still have the older styles without the pillars as an option. I'm glad those who like the modern style get it as an option, but I like the personalities of the old styles too, just not the pillars.

I wish I had enough free space to actually USE the new system.
But since SE expects me to have an empty storage to put all placed furnishings into, I first need to empty my entire storage somewhere - which I cannot do, because I lack free inventory spaces.

Yeah I kinda wish we would’ve got the item limit increase first, because one would assume it’ll also apply to the storeroom.

I decorate for all the different seasons and holidays, so my retainers’ inventory is already full of furnishings because my storeroom is full! But I probably won’t be using the new layout anyway. I kinda wanted something that still looked LB style, just with no pillars.

But I’m looking forward to see what kinds of layouts they add in the future, because there’s a lot of space in that UI!

I just wish they could change things without needing to store everything every, single, time. But I guess I need to empty inventory and some unimportant storage items. Might give me a reason to be on more for a bit.

I'm happy SE tried but they missed this shot by a large margin. people don't like the pillars and windows since they block us from putting things up to the wall and we have to hide them, before i could put things between the pillars but this new one without the pillars i cant put anything against the wall anywhere, how is that an improvement? And the big white stripes on the top and bottom will clash with anything but a modern interior style. why not have the wallpaper that we can change cover the walls? It feels like the housing community has been asking for grapes specifically and SE proudly gave us bananas so now everyone is doing /hmm

Apparently the only things i can't put close to the wall (or trough it) are things like floor to roof book shelf's pillars or a fireplace, things that really should be possible to put against the wall.
