Facetracking Everquest
No it really is not. Not everyone has a webcam, not many would ever want to turn a system like that on, and it would require you to receive a hell of a lot more data about every ones current face twitches.
Also *smack* We don't use the T word here!
well but i think its a fun idea, when playing with friends through Teamspeak and seeing the correct facial emotions to the voice ;) well it will work (traffic wise), otherwise SOE wouldnt going to implement this.
personally i would switch that off too in most times ;) buts a funny thing which i just wanted to show^^
and i imagine a group of toons leveling in an instance, you are talking via TS and seeing very realistic facial animations on them while talking. thats a cool thing^
that's actually kind of cool lol
I don't think I'd ever want to be bothered to turn my camera around and zoom in on you just to see what your expression was when you said something.
It's funny technology but not practical at all.
And please don't say toon ever.
That's pretty awesome. I'm personally looking forward to the day when we can have our bodies and faces super imposed on out avatars.
how will this improve my dps
Oh god you said toon =.=°
Ehm yes, nice and funny little feature but considering FFXIV's graphics looks so beautifully natural it would be horrible to see those motion-reading movements which are interrupted and broken and stuff like that.
I remember how horrible characters look which are controlled by Kinect, in this video you could already see how the face of the character makes the same awkward movements, interrupted and unnatural.
I'd never turn my webcam on for this either, partially because FFXIV causes enough strain on my PC and connection already and also because I don't want everyone to see what kind of face I make while doing something o_O
Mobs will die just by looking at you:

omg did he just say toon??????
Ha! I think that's pretty cool. Once the tech gets better I think this would become a MMO staple.
I don't see the problem if it's optional.
But of course since this is a FF XIV forum the flame wars have already begun.
I'd really love to see it, along with /facepalm. Awesome AND practical at the same time! :D
at first it sounded nice but then i saw the video and even with the stiff animations of everquest 2 it looks horrible, half of the time the mouth just hung open or flapped about aimlessly...
its an interesting idea but not at all suitable for FFXIVs art direction and they already confirmed at several occasions that they don't want in-client voice chat.
also, its really just a pet peeve of mine but, "toons" go in "the dip", characters go adventuring

The Dip you say?
What's the T word? meeh forget this ima rewatch last night's Toonnami'
but to the subject, it would sorta be useless except for some machinima
I think it's cool, but I don't think I'd like using it for long.
Would be WAY too much for comps to handle, plus, wtf "TOON"???? No...
Can I crit enemies with my "O face?"
I think its pretty interesting. Especially when you understand that we get alot of our language ques from facial expersions. Also we read emotions through faces. Not that this could be so deep and acurate, but is is another step towards a level of virtual reality.
To be on a VIOP and have your voice carried to others, and your character's face follow your expression is atleast entertaining should you desire to use it.
Some times you guys are really no fun. It pertains to advances in MMO and gaming capability, FF14 is an MMO after all.
(also: Why the flip out over "Toon". Does op's slang term somehow offend you guys? From here on i shall arbitraily decide to make fun of anyone who uses Char or Character since I think everyone should refer to them as "Virtual Personal Incarnation"
You guys could make 4 year olds shake their heads in disappointment some times.)
well when he speaks you are right.. but the other facial expressions (smiling etc.) looks exactly the same for 100%. Its in beta and it needs fine tuning.
For example that your character doesnt open his mouth THAT wide when you are speaking normal. thats just a question of tuning and nothing more. and then it will look good and acurate.
haha hilarious. well i never use that word.. dont know why i used it now. Maybe because i read that yesterday when i played Dark Age of Camelot again.
but here for you again:
toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon toon
^_^
'toon' didn't originate with WoW. are you guys new or something?
Toon? We're (somewhat) civilized here. It's a character, not a 'toon.
This sort of thing wouldn't be possible in this game ever I don't think. The 2-3 seconds of latency between client → server → client, would make it completely out of sync. Even with the new servers, you'll still have some kind of delay because of how the server is located across the seas in a different country.
all i read was TOON i did not read anything else :( we don't use that word around here.
To be honest I think this face tracking thing is freaking awesome, but I don't think its a future of emotes or anything. I really doubt any other MMO will ever add this to their game. Just my 2 cents though.
Hahaha... omg they would know when I am grumpy? I don't think I would use this lolol. Perhaps for fun.
