It's just like Elon Musk saying his livestream crashed because of DDoS. Hmm ? I think it's just your bad servers.
Time for a 1-day refund now.

I hope this is trolling or sarcasm, hard to tell from text.
At this point its just starting to get sad and kinda pathetic a multi billion dollar company cant stop this after 2 months SE of the past would be ashamed of the pathetic excuse that's here today
Realize that FFXIV's server structure, applications, and tools were those of FFXI for FFXIV 1.0 which were transferred over but modified for FFXIV 2.0 and onwards. XIV doesn't do well with data sharing, specially accessing databases; it's why the armoire has to be heavily modified for us to store things on it patchers later.
square enix makes it worse by placing their servers in californi and through level 3 networks/nodes. Arenet, Guild wars 2's developer, realized this and moved their servers away from level 3/west coast in general and their servers are the smoothest in any mmo that I've seen.
Hmmmmmmmmm...
I'd suggest improving your connection, in fact.
Gotta love getting "server is congested" and getting stuck in a 30 second long queue with only two people ahead of you at the absolute deadest hours of the day.
Maybe ask to speak to the manager, Charen.
So many folks here that really should get into IT with their solutions with how to resolve this.
this is what you get when you let the trolls take over the forums they complain about everything time to start supend this topic trash.
to much effort :D
It's not Delivery, it's Digiorno.

the only time SE says its a DDOS attack, is when its the release of new big content, like expansions, and only during peak group instance play...
but never any other time..? i know DDOS attacks can be targeted, but its even to the point of which nights of the week that are targeted are mostly balanced around weekly resets as well... almost as if thats when ppl are just crowding the game, and the servers struggle to keep up.
I dont doubt they have had DDOS attacks, but I also doubt its even half the time.
I genuinely believe they are DDoS attacks. They've been honest in the past when the issue is their hardware failing to keep up. Assuming the attacks are targeted towards SE's servers, I'd wager the reason it's most noticeable during prime-time and such is because the servers are taxed with legitimate traffic and illegitimate traffic all at once, instead of one or the other.
DDoS are pretty difficult to deal with because of the nature of such attacks. Online games especially are very susceptible to them because you can't use a lot of common mitigating techniques since you will be constantly hit with legitimate traffic too by design.
Companies much bigger than SE struggle with attacks like this. Mitigating them is literally a multi-billion dollar industry. Sometimes the problem can be upstream too. Ex: If someone is attacking the datacenter SE's servers are at, that's not strictly an FFXIV problem but FFXIV will likely be affected. For as simple as a DDoS attack is (spam a server/router/etc. with packets until it cries), it's actually pretty complex to handle them.
There was a period before the expansion dropped, during a time when less people are playing, where it was happening.
Also, there tend to be more people on during peak times, so if you want your DDOS to actually bother the most people.... Of course you target it during peak times.
I hadnt encountered it prior, but good to know. (Though this would be counter to the following statement)
Im still very untrusting of SE, since they have grown accustomed to both avoiding the truth, and straight up giving PR versions of the truth after HW. (and most likely during, but I was still too gullible back then to tell the difference)
Just look at the Lodestone. Look through the history of issues, and see that they state "network hardware, server hardware, or server program" as the fault when its on their end. They don't even blame all network issues on DDOS attacks. If a node is bad, they tend to report network route issues, not DDOS.
They have never lied about it, that I can find, and until they stop reporting those other error causes, I will continue to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Conspiracies do not help.
1st part, thats a good catch, and a strong argument.
the 2nd part isnt related to what is said. a theory doesnt make something a conspiracy. ironically, the opposite would, as someone has to actually plan the illegal activity of DDoSing. SE wouldnt be planning anything unlawful, so it wouldnt be a conspiracy if we were to theorize that they were trying to lighten the blame of server capacity. (which the 1st part, makes it sound far more believable they arent doing)
So now it has been an entire month and there's still DDoS, and we don't even have a single day of refund. What is going on at Square Enix really ?
