So when can we get Plunge and Rough Divide animation back?

I have seen some posts of commenting on new gap closer.
However, previous patch didn't reflect them enough.
AoE's and gap closer's enmity have been increased.
Ok, this improvement will help tanks to gather enmity more easily.
The delay issue has also been solved.
But why is that POOR animation still alive?
I love the cool aggressive tanks, not the ghost sliding quietly and weightlessly.
Please bring the animation of Plunge and Rough Divide back. Shadowstride and Trajectory with magical glittery effects are not inspiring.

The delay issue has been resolved however there is still a slight delay after executing before hitting another action which is weird. Im not sure if thats due to it not doing any damage and delaying the next input.

But after all the work they have done to implement these skills. I highly doubt they will go back to plunge and rough divide.

You can get plunge back any time you want. Just gotta go to PVP. -_-

That said I agree, removing these abilities from PVE was in short, a very stupid idea they should walk back.

im honestly surprised that the enhanced unmend trait isn't just a proc to change shadowstride to plunge.

I wish they'd at least give us the choice between animation, who cares if it deals 0 damage?
Who cares if these animations have slightly different delays?

We should have free choice over the animation, they both exist and it's a shame to throw one liked by some in the garbage bin.

I'm glad they don't do damage anymore, hope pld/war get the same treatment

You guys wanna hear something funny? The reason Plunge and Rough Divide was removed is because they want to simplify the Burst window. Make sense so far. However there's already a gap closer that most people will not use for their potency: SAM's Hissatsu: Gyoten.

It uses job resource, does minimal damage, and has a 10s CD with no charge. Very clearly meant to be a gap closing utility rather than damage source. Most sane people will never even think of using it for burst windows, and the other ones get to find their own fun. Instead we got MNK's dash copy-pasted.

Admittedly, it would be rather hard to implement on GNB as the only tank without a numeric job resource, but God forbid they make an attempt at trying a creative solution.

I just want Plunge back, shadowstride feels bad and the fact they had to add enmity to it because they removed crucial damage? Clear misstep, please bring it back

I'll give it a month until a mod comes out to give plunge back.

I like not having to "waste" a movement tool for minor DPS, however I always imagined them just removing the potency... Never in my wildest dreams did I forsee them removing cool animations just to replace them with clunky garbage. Please bring the OG animations back!

I have mixed feelings about Plunge, honestly. Like, it unarguably looks cool.

But at the same time it felt quite out of context for a job whose animations are themed around heavy gear and slow swings, to suddenly be able to leap and somersault in the air? With apparently no magic to boost the jump? I guess the solution here for me would be to at least make the jump more magicky.

I was also initially upset about Rough Divide, for me it felt like a disservice to remove an ability named after one of the job inspiration's original abilities. But after playing GNB for a while, I have found that in the heat of battle I don't pay that much attention to how different the skill feels. I'd still prefer to keep Rough Divide, but don't have a strong enough opinion to fight for it.

I actually prefer GNB's new gap-closer animation. Though I think Plunge is WAYYYY better than DRK's new one.

I like the new animation for GNB gap closer and teh name of it. Plus i always thought a GNb sliding in then using their sonic break like a sneak attack. Lets not forget rough divide was part of their burst window for no mercy. But for DRK the name plung but you jump in the air without a cool effect, seems weird. Maybe if they bring back that animation mae it so a burst comes off the player's feet or make a smakk indent in the ground when landing.

tbh.. they should just give the Gap Closers Proximity based damage, like Warp Strike from the FFXV Fight.. and maybe add a Penalty when you do a Gap Closer at Melee Range..

I second this. I like warp strike too lol..

I don't like having gap closers part of openers but if you also think about it, it doesn't make sense not deal damage if you want to surprise attack enemies

Given how long the GCD is in this game, this would only lead to degenerate gameplay where you hit a GCD skill, run out, hit the gapcloser for damage and carry on without any loss.

I want to like that that idea, but there’s a problem with it: it works on SAM because all of SAM's spenders are oGCD, but DRK's existing spenders are GCD. I'm pretty sure that the only way to balance Plunge to be a blood gauge spender that's not worth saving for burst would be to make Plunge a GCD as well.

DRK has two ogcd spenders, just not for Blood. You could make Plunge cost 1000MP and deal 1/3rd of the damage of Edge of Shadow and it would be damage neutral at best, minimal dps loss (due to losing some MP for the 2min window) at worst.

I thought I'd get used to the new gap closers after a while. But I still dislike them.
Will they bring the older animation back on 7.1?

finally getting around to leveling GNB and holy hell, the trajectory animation completely sucks. now instead of feeling like I'm hitting the mob, it feels like I'm trying to slide into the DMs to say Hi. I get wanting to remove the potency from the ability originally but they should have just removed the potency and left the animation I think. this just feels all sorts of wrong and I doubt we will ever get it back in the PvE side of things. it looks dumb, doesn't make me feel like I'm playing the tank, has no weight behind, doesn't feel meaty to me. I really don't think they should have removed the potency in the first place since they didn't do that with all tanks on launch. Just feels like throwing things at the wall to see what works. Shouldn't have to run mods to get that animation back either.

I'm curious as to why Living Shadow had to also lose plunge. Didn't someone make a post at some point about LS not working as intended if it had to shadowstride and thus lose damage or something? Unless they fixed that problem. I'm not exactly paying attention or playing enough to math it.

I believe what you're refering to is the fact that Living Shadow is significantly more punishing than it used to be on bosses that move around and reset its AI.

Endwalker Living Shadow cast attacks all at the same potency except Shadowbringer which is stronger, so it really wasn't a damage loss if its AI reset its rotation, as long as shadowbringer got used, which is pretty early in its rotation so whatever. (you could actually get a very slight dps gain by reseting after shadowbringer actually, but I've only ever seen this happen in one fight)

Dawntrail living shadow, thats a different story. Sure they adjusted the potency of everything else for the loss of plunge, but any time the Living shadow AI resets, you flat out just lose 420 attack potency because it had to waste time on Shadowstride again, and you also lose another 200 damage potency because it will no longer reach Disesteem, which the last move it casts so it must go through everything in its 14 second window to get out Disesteem.

Luckily, So far the only fight where this has been relevant is M3N so it hasn't mattered that much yet.

I mean, that's cool though. If that were a more universal concept (punishing per-fight per-ability timing usage if you just press stuff on CD) and not just punishing one job, I'd love that.

It's like losing pet classes just because controlling pets is haaaard, sure every MMO does it, but it so ruins such a unique gameplay style, and having to actually sit on your ability and not use it would be amazing in theory. Know the perfect timings for things, like an AST using Horoscope or Macrocosmos just on the spot so they never have to actively close it, it fires on its own just after damage is applied.

Sadly, current FFXIV fight (and job) design paradigms are sadly incompatible with non-fire-everything combat plans.
