Why is the game not OUT there in the media/mmo sites?? Devs/Yoshi gotta get on this!

So I go to the website today to see what's up and I happily see the brand new website, new trailer, it all looks so awesome. I am so happy this has happened and 2.0 is looking to be just awesome but where is the coverage? i don't see mention of 2.0 anywhere outside of SE! Nobody other than all of us and the people we preach ffxiv to know about it! Yoshi and devs.. cmon get on it! get your hard work out there and show the mmo community whats up because as of right now not a lot of the gamers really know the magnitude of 2.0, it is indeed a new game and needs to be marketed as such.

I see other threads similar to this, we realize it, Yoshi you gotta realize it too! it really deserves the attention, we need NEW REVIEWS by IGN, new PREVIEWS by mmorpg.com, coverage in the official playstation magazine and the PS3 magazine, we need coverage by PC Gamer.

Devs/forum moderators/yoshi check this out and get whoever needs to be ontop of it ontop of it.. fast! so that everyone knows what we know and that is how awesome the new ffxiv is gonna be :cool:

Because this game is dead and will stay dead even after 2.0.

I don't think pushing ARR in media outlets with 1.0 running would be a wise decision.

Well I agree that when they bring down the servers, they should pull all the stops in advertisings. Like I want to wake up and have FFXIV 2.0 shoved in my face, like shove it in my face, seriously. If not I will be angry.

They should market this game like they've been marketing Sleeping Dogs.

SE is trying a brand new tactic where they don't advertise the game at all ever.

Who needs market saturation and positive brand recognition in today's gaming industry?

Actually many outlets covered the release of the ARR teaser on the day it released. I recall Gamespy specifically. Since then some sites have even been keeping up with other news, such as the discontinued achievements post on the Lodestone.

I have a subsection of news.google.com for the keyword 'FFXIV', and I find this coverage through that.

Examples

Escapist Magazine covers trailer

MTV covers trailer

Gamespy covers discontinued content announcement (I don't think they would've mentioned it, but the trailer got them interested in FFXIV again it seems)

The Verge covers gameplay announcement (this was after they covered the trailer and discontinued stuff)

Siliconera covers gameplay announcement (btw, it sounds like FFXIV: ARR is the headliner for Square-Enix at Gamescom, so it's finally getting the spotlight.)

I have never heard of the verge, siliconera, or the escapist, not to rain on your parade or anything. people shouldnt have to google ffxiv to discover it, they should have to do no more than visit mainstream community sites like the ones i mentioned and have it in front of their face. furthermore i have never gone to MTV for gaming news, people go there for jersey shore and the real life. gamespy covering discontinued content doesn't shout "new game! new game!". the fact it was framed in that context is exactly what i mean. the title saying "FFXIV Content Going Obsolete" rather than "Re-release on the way" or whatever does two very different things to an audience.

IGN, PC gamer, PS3 mag coverage is what's going to help get the game out there

IGN did post an article about the website/trailer the day they went up.

Finding FFXIV without Googleing it? How do you propose to do that? :/

It's been on every major news site I can think of lately.

Its to early SE wants a large amount of information to be available before they go on the attack which I think will be during gamescom

what i mean is any wow/aion/eq2/rift/gamer in general should be able to know nothing about ffxiv, or not have it in sight, visit IGN as a general go-to place for game news. and see a ffxiv relaunch article on the front page. that's called good advertising

And we all should know now promotional campagn is in middle august, starting aroung in/before/after gamescom

Bombard the Doubters/haters with Information and Gameplay, New players will catch on with ease (if they are interested in that type of game) thats the best way they can handle it.. Overwhelm the Consumer with Information beyond compare, if they do that at Gamescom, they have their Second Chance Secured.

Didn't hurt my feelings any. Escapist is excellent though, worth checking out. The Verge seems to be as well. I just picked a couple links from my Google News results nearly at random; ordinarily I never go to MTV. I didn't even know they had a gaming site.

Gamespy did cover the trailer first though, and link to it in their post on discontinued content, so I don't think that criticism of their coverage sticks.

i think its a bit early , probably sites will start to write about 2.0 near open beta to release.

and maybe when we see the first ingame footage at Gamescom 2012 in mid of august. (youtube here we come) ;XD

I don't think they should advertise before there's any real information to give, but I agree they need to advertise MUCH more. They never even advertised XI very well. Most FF fans I've talked to weren't even aware that XI existed (dunno where they thought that number went) or that FF had any MMOs. And still most people don't seem aware that XIV exists. SE needs to get XIV into into game magazines, and maybe have some TV spots.

Because gamescom have not started yet.

Because if you can't use a search to find past information on when/where the "flood" of new information is going take place perhaps you can't find other things on the internet either?

media wont bite every tiny bit of info that comes out
they are waiting for the promised "flood" of info thats soon to come, its hard to work with tiny bits of info, but its easy to write about large ammounts

Because it isn't August yet. Almost but not quite there, they said information about 2.0 will start being released in August.

they used stuff from 1.0 on the NEW website @_@.

SE said months ago they had 2.0 up and running no reason they cant show anything more than the screenshots they have put out, if they dont market it, it will fail. words & trailers mean nothing.
time is counting down its already august 1st in japan.a screenshot on the site a week or more info about 2.0 a week would be good.

the only people i know that didn't mention 2.0 is Gamespot, and really they wont give the game attention till near the PS3 beta or square tosses a bunch of advertising money at them.

Gamespot sucks anyways, so that ain't much of a loss.

There are interviews all over the place and tons of coverage. Just google "Realm Reborn" and you'll see.

The mass(er) media coverage needs to come out AFTER 2.0. It is imperative that this happens.

Didn't they come out and say they wanted to save the media push for once it was near 2.0 launch? What would advertising several months before 2.0 accomplish?

advertise with pepsi co it might cost money but its a great way to annouce the game microsoft and others uses them for game publisity

Fair enough but what about XIII-2?

That teaser did appear at e3 and wasn't pulled out at the last minute.
XIII-2 coverage lasted after that all the way to the release date.
We got feature trailers on pretty much everything in the game:
Moogle throwing, time travel, monster system, composer team interviews, main characters and unlinearity of the game was brought up in articles and trailers. All leading up to final CG trailer showing the intro and weeks of full market saturation pr.
You litrally could not watch a video on any gaming site for months without sittong through a XIII-2 trailer first. Also the game was seriously pushing for pre-orders to happen with several special editions that were announced over 6 months prior to release.

Ok XIV then? I get a feeling SE's faith in XIV is not that strong because even if they started right now the game still would not get the same amount of PR based on just the time they have lost.

Maybe there's a silver lining here that if the beta bombs then they can fix it because they haven't committed to a release date. They said in a gamasutra article that test players of XIII hated it but at that point it was too late to address any of the issues.

They're showing the new version at gamescom. The only thing worth publicizing is 2.0. You wouldn't want to advertise the current version. Once we hit 2.0 alpha/beta, you can expect the media circulation to drastically increase.

They are playing their cards cautiously, and understandably so.

I hadn't thought of it that way but it makes sense.
If they had started earlier then there would be the danger of new players only seeing the bad version before 2.0 comes.

Then the ads would do more harm than good.
1.0 can't close fast enough.

sites like IGn and destructoid can only do so much. SE provided a trailer, and the sites talked about it and showed it. Until there is more info they cant do much more, seeing as its hard to hype a game you have seen literally no actual gameplay of.
