The viper changes make me want to stop playing

I have been playing FFXIV since Shadowbringers and I have never once considered stopping. On the lead up to Dawntrail I was so excited to try out viper and talked about it so much that it became a meme in my friend group that they made the class for me. When i finally got my hands on it during early access I couldn't have been happier, I had found my class that I really wanted to main after spending so many years bouncing between classes and never really fully finding my "canon class" for my WOL. Viper made playing this game more fun than it had ever been for me.

Unfortunately I woke up this morning to see the patch notes and found my favorite class to be gutted of all the things that made it unique and fun. The job has been reduced to nothing but switching between your two combos with no thought. It has become melee summoner levels of thinking required. It was a gut wrenching feeling upon logging in and trying it. I had found my favorite class in the game and I barely got to play it for a month. There feels like there is no nuance to the class, rather than adjust the positionals (which also wasn't needed but that's besides the point) like they said they would they reworked the whole class into nothing.

I hope this gets rolled back. I am unsure if I will unsub over this, it may be a knee jerk reaction. Then again this was clearly a knee jerk reaction to rework it.

A knee jerk reaction was unsubbing over removing damage type debuffs and aggro mechanics.

This has been a trend three expansions running and the train shows no signs of slowing down. Hop off the train.

Then don’t play? It’s not that big a deal but if it hits hard for you… stand on your convictions.

Yes totally agree and share your feelings. You are not alone, a lot of people if not most of the people who play VPR as main share the same feelings about this patch.

VPR players are crazy lol, "Noxious Gnash Effect: Increases damage you deal target by 10%"

That isn't worth breaking your toys over.

I haven't played Viper at all yet, but I totally feel for people that are upset, and know you know how healers have felt for years now.

Are you being dense, or are you actually under the impression that this is the issue?
It's the gameplay decisions behind whether to reapply the buff at any given moment.
It was a fun part of the class, but now it has the same alternating style as the rest of the combo.

yeah i feel the exact same way and has the same story tbh. Dawntrail has been just one big mess and hope this is a learning experience. i dont think the info we give on the english forums will ever reach the devs but i do hope if enough people get fed up with this game they will notice. its all so fucked up man...

It wasn't broke, why fix it?

It's not really unique to VPR. Most jobs now are ruined as of DT.

I'm going to repeat what I'm saying in other threads on this issue:
Viper is literally much worse now and here's why.

The short but easily reapply-able 20s debuff (With a 40s max) gave vipers something to optimize, as the other two buffs require almost no thought other than when coming out of your 2/6/8/10 min window.
Before going into your reawakening its its fun to plan how you're going to ensure you go in with atleast 22+seconds of this debuff. Also if you set it up correctly its very easy to just apply a single gcd of gnash inbetween the two reawakens should you have miscalculated the timer! Beyond this I have to wonder if anyone who is saying these changes are good ever played reaper, as reaper's triple enshroud was almost always not worth the effort and very clunky.

Dealing with EX1 Vali and optimizing when the boss disengages you for the application of gnash on the needles (first hit of 3 hit combo on needle one, then use dreadwinder on needle two) then spacing out snaps to allow the timing of the first returning gcd on vali to be gnash was a ton of fun to optimize, and even when it was difficult to do, it was not a big deal as you still had 16-8 seconds till reawaken! Enough time to apply the debuff twice!

Viper was always an easy job. Noxious gash was just the one thing other than uptime and positional you could optimize.
Gnash feels truly like a better version of reapers death's design. It almost makes me wish they would make it a alternate combo for RPR rather than being a single button.

For all intents and purposes, Viper plays very similarly. But the few plates that you had to spin have fallen and all you have now is uptime, and positionals.
If you're saying its better I doubt you've ever tried to optimize it in any content whatsoever, let alone EX+ content.

TL;DR it's the worse and honestly more boring, you did not seriously play viper if you think the noxious gash change is good.

Do devs even understand what fun is? How 7.05 VPR is fun? HOW? Could you explain to me where the fun is in 7.05 VPR job? WHERE??

I left WoW forever when devs stopped understanding what fun is, I think I am moving in the direction of leaving FF14 forever too.

Im convinced they're a troll, so I wouldnt bother trying to reason with them.

They cant or dont want to understand that the principle is what matters here

Same thing happened to DRG so I feel your pain. Unfortunately it seems like it's only a matter of time until every job gets lobotomized in the name of "accessibility."
