Basically what the title says. I miss the rng. I'm not the smartest so the buffs being straight damage was fine to me but honestly I'd be just fine with the different cards doing different things, I know that's something people missed from earlier on, I just want to feel like I'm pulling cards instead of hitting the same buttons as on everything else. I hate it. Put the rng back. I'm probably not going to be playing AST with any seriousness if at all until whenever this gets fixed, if it gets fixed.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I love new AST. It's as fun as it was in SB.
I just think there's been so many iterations that any one build isn't going to make everyone happy sadly. -

I'm in the same boat. It's rather unfortunate what they've done to AST this expac with the cards. Yes the RNG and fishing for cards was bad, but it felt satisfying to play with the constant cards juggle. I haven't touched AST ever since I got it to 100 lol

It's like they tried to replicate Stormblood AST....but without the fun aspects of it.
They added back the utility effects but made them worse or just plain replaced them with horrible ones.
But honestly the RNG was the best part of the job, to make use of what was given to you. That and the whole concept of Royal Road was so chef's kisses. When using Sleeve Draw felt amazing and or using an Enhanced Bole on your tank during massive dungeon pulls.
The devs have become so obsessed with balancing the job (ironic since they end up over buffing AST throughout the xpac anyway) that they've ripped out all of the fun. I raid and do high end content, but I'd rather have fun with a cool gimmick than stale boring cards. ShB AST is the only other AST worth mentioning and that's only the 4.5 version. -

I’m actually ambivalent on RNG (if they are going to have it it should have quite a few sources of bad RNG protection a la 4.5 AST where you have draw, redraw, royal road and minor arcana) so I went into the rework kinda hopeful
The problem with modern AST (besides the regular healer problems I always moan about) is the cards are now just pointless bloat doubling up on abilities you already have
Why do I care about spire on a 2 minute CD when I get basically the same shield+a heal on a 30 second CD with 2 stacks
Why do I care about ewer on a 2 minute CD when I get 3 charges of ED on a 40 second CD
why do I care about bole on a 2 minute CD when I get exaltation that also has a large heal on a 1 minute CD
why do I care about lady on a 2 minute CD when I get opposition for double the healing on a 1 minute CD
Arrow has niches buffing your shield healers shields (particularly SCH) but basically besides the same cards we already had that now come less frequently all we got were more of the same overbloated single target heals AST already had just with a card flavour -

they literally only changed the card system and gave 2 powers and an upgrade, really? the previous card system only gave out damage buffs, why are people never satisfied, they don't ask for improvements they just ask for change over and over again.

I've said in the AST cards are useless thread that I like the sound of SB AST from what I've heard and read about it and it does make current AST look bad, further I would advocate bringing back the card management aspects of it. But I do maintain the DT AST is better than EW AST, if only in that there are more cards and more options for how to approach things, I am never one to call more options and flexibility bad.

Astro is in a really good place right now. One of the best iterations we've ever had. Anyone claiming the cards are useless has no idea how to do basic math.

I'm quite new to this game, so class strength means nothing to me (yet) but gameplay is king.
From that point of view, I used to love astrologian for what it was, but now it's static and boring. I liked the way it kept me busy with card draw and how it looked... both those things have changed for the worse, imo. Again, I'm not at endgame yet, but ast was my favourite healer. I'm leveling all jobs, which is why I'm so slow, but I think I'm going to park this one.
It also occured to me that the 10min queues I used to get as dps or tank are now 30 min for the same kind of queue, even though I'm gaining new instances left and right. Everything in random needs green. It's honestly a bit weird to me that the healing jobs obviously need some love even if just for the sake of the queues, but instead they make it more boring every change. -

It's attracting a lot of people who don't have any desire to interact with ... the game itself, like at all. I was watching. Multiple cohealers have just sat around spamming Helios and not casting Malefic.
Fixing the drift, the second lightspeed charge, they feel great. I want to be clear, good job on those. AST feels playable at all based on the strength of the rest of its kit. But the cards are just pointless feeling, entirely, now.
