High Ping (120ms) viable? Should I transfer Datacenters?

I am an American who lives in Japan but prefer the atmosphere of the NA Datacenters for various reasons. The issue is, my ping to NA is about 120ms. Not terrible, but according to high-end players, somewhat bad for “ping-reliant” jobs. For reference I get 20ms on the JP servers.

I really want to try out NIN among other DPS jobs but have been somewhat warded away from the idea due to my latency.
I’ve never attempted high-end content and before I put hours into grinding jobs to max level to “try” them, I’d like to ask some questions and get realistic answers from the job mentors here..

1) I don’t need to be the highest parsing player, but would my ping (120ms) truly hurt my DPS so much on NIN that it would be noticeable to the group?
2) When people say “high ping will be an issue” are they simply talking about the most meta, optimal way to play (i.e. parsing in 90%+) or will there be job actions which will legitimately be inaccessible to me due to combo timings, etc.?
3) Is the 100ms difference between NA and JP worth transferring? What would you do, assuming you’re in my position?

In this game ping is not huge issue. In eu we used to use American servers during 2.0 and still cleared all content without problem.

Depends on if you're playing a class that has to double weave a lot. A WHM doesn't have to double weave nearly at all, so you'd be fine with it. But if you wanted to play say.. Bard, RDM or SMN, you're not going to have a good time. Classes with a fast GCD or with fast GCD skills like MCH and again, RDM will not be friendly either.

Does "double weaving" just mean for optimal DPS or is it a required gameplay mechanic?
If I can't double weave, will it decrease my DPS so much that people won't want to raid with me? Or is this a 99%er thing??

Pending on how much the class needs to double weave, it can add up, but its not going to make or break a log until you're shooing maximum epeen.
To me, its just knowing that I can/can't play a class to its intended fullest will hurt my soul.
For RDM for example, improper double weaving or improper single weaving during melee combo can add up to a few missed gcds pretty easily if you're not careful. Average GCD for RDM is around 500 so it *can* addup.

MCH is worse because you *have* to single weave during a 1.5 second gcd window during hypercharge, and you're in hypercharge a lot. So if you're clipping during your hypercharge wndows, its going to add up to loss fast. I think MCH is the only that absolutely has to weave that fast without massive loss though.
100+ can cause a minor clip on a 1.5 second gcd window pending on how fast you're button mashing.

You just have to try it. I can play Ninja on 160ms, but the latency sometimes fucks me over. Maybe it will happen less on 120ms

The only job that feels awful to play is machinist, and it only feels awful because I can't fit 5 heat blasts and weave oGCDs at the same time, I manage only 4

I do not play jobs that have a lot of double weaves in their openers optimally but I believe that's okay

NIN mudras are so much better than they used to be in previous expacs that even with this ping I can safely play NIN without fearing of using the wrong jutsu or bunny'ing, I played NIN with no issues in Endwalker and I'm pretty sure it will be okay for Dawntrail as well, Ill confirm when I play it this expac but I believe high ping will even be able to do the current standard NIN opener with no issue

after some experimenting, I've found that I can double weave without clipping at 120ms, although at default recast timing of 2.5
i can get my recast timer down to about 2 seconds by using an ability (presence of mind in my case) and then the clipping begins...

When people need to double weave on NIN or MCH, are they always referring to instances wherein their cast timers are lower than the base?

I guess ping matters equally as much as cast timer in this case

Fitting 2 oGCDs within that recast timer without clipping is successfully double weaving, regardless of what that recast timer is.

I see 2 double weaves in the standard NIN opener for DT but I dont believe you'll get a damage loss that's significant enough for groups not to accept you if you clip it or choose a single weaving alternative for your opener

Yes, I guess that means i can double weave, but doesnt the cast timer for MCH, NIN, and MNK become much less forgiving during burst phases?
I've heard I will need to compete against a 1.5s timer while double weaving... is that true?

I'm playing from Japan, too, and the ping does make a difference - but it's not that bad. All classes are still playable. Some mechanics are a bit worse for us than if we'd play on a JP data centre, of course, but that can't be helped.

Do you use any VPNs, etc.?

Same ping as you, 120ish, and no VPN. My provider is NURO光

I believe that only RDM and MCH have 1.5 second windows. Could be wrong.
