Guess I'll quit again...a story of loneliness where there should be friendship

I played FFXIV for many years with a couple of co-workers, and had a great time. Somewhere during early Endwalker they both quit playing for various reasons, and I was left alone, with no friends to play with. I kept playing, but it was lonely, and it ruined the game for me, and eventually I quit too.

Recently, I made a new RL friend, and imagine my surprise when we're talking and I found out he plays FFXIV. He tells me about Dawntrail and that he has an active FC that do lots of different content together, and a house! All the fun memories I have of the game come rushing back. So I excitedly hop on my phone, buy Dawntrail and 30 day subscription, and reactivate my extra retainers. Fun times ahead, right?

Nope, I go to transfer my character to his homeworld and its "congested". I ask my friend, and there's no queues even in prime time, but still "congested". So I suck it up, and play through the MSQ, hit lvl100...and I'm lonely again in FFXIV and can't bring myself to log in anymore. To rub salt in the wound, Wuk Lamat reminds me every 5 minutes how important friendship is, while I sit here lonely in the game.

I can't expect my new friend to abandon his FC, but I can't join their fun. I can't expect every one of them to datacenter travel to meet me over at Dynamis every time they want to run a trial or hunt maps or some other group content. I can't hang out in front of the FC house and socialize, because I can't travel there.

So I just don't play, and I guess I'll quit again instead of having a great time. And that's sad. And my sadness turns to anger and resentment when I realize I am being robbed of fun because the "congested" status is artificial to prop up Dynamis, a ghost-town data-center that seemingly no one wants to play on unless they are forced there.

Yeah, that's rough and you have my sympathy. Have you suggested they make an alt on your server to play with you occasionally, and looking into fc recruitment to make some new friends? It's not ideal, but it might work for you

I'm not sure if this helps, but I remember that in the past when we wanted to make new characters on servers that were "full" (or some synonym), it worked to wait for non-peak hours when there were less people playing. Not sure if character transfers work similarly, but if they do, it might work to wait a few weeks and then try to transfer in the middle of the night (server time) when most players will be sleeping.

Alternatively, there are always new friends to make. And I'll admit, making friends can be challenging, especially if you're looking for certain kinds of friends. But the more you try, the more likely you'll eventually find some folks who you enjoy playing with and talking to.

I know it's a bit of time but DC Travel should be opening again in 11 days. Then you can join your friends again.

Congested status isn't just to prop up Dynamis. We had serious problems in the past when servers and DCs got too full. I remember many Aether crashes back before Crystal was created and some of our servers got split off to there. So they have measures in place to control that now.

just gotta wait for the restrictions to be lifted... shouldnt be long now. im kinda in the same boat, im bored and lonely and not enjoying this game at all because of the se unneeded restrictions. i was forced to make my character on dynamis due to all of na being locked down when i made it, now im forced to play on dynamis and cant leave , let alone transfer to the server where my group of friends play.

From what I can tell from comparing queues, my homeworld is more congested than the one I want to move to. Seems illogical to keep me locked here.

When a server's status is set to congested, it blocks all new character creation and server transfers until the congested status is lifted. Patch 7.0 made all non-Dynamis NA worlds congested in order to populate the Dynamis Datacenter. Congested status likely won't be lifted until 7.1 at the earliest, and some worlds are unlikely to go back to normal status even then.

Well that sucks, because they're not getting another penny from me until I can play with my friend. Its the entire point of playing a damn MMORPG.

Honestly, they went far, far too hard on being restrictive with peoples' movements.

DC travel should've been fully re-enabled with 7.01, and it's a shame they don't review changes to world status enough.

They're supposed to be re-opening world travel to all servers soon.

Usually server congestion is lifted in the next major patch. During 6.4 I had some friends that wanted to transfer to Hyperion which was congested at the time. It was lifted in 6.5. They do that to keep the realm populations relatively healthy. You should be able to transfer in 7.1.

How else are they going to pretend that Dynamis is alive if they dont force literally everyone to go there ?

Fun fact, Dynamis is "alive" right now, thanks to all the travelers that have to travel there because they cant meet and play with their friends thanks to the absolutely useless restrictions

That apparently to SE is the way to go, lock everyone away from their friends so they are forced to go on a dead DC just to pretend that it's in a healthy state, that is bound to die again once travel and transfer opens up again.

Most people aint stupid, we on Dynamis can see that half the population right now if not more are travelers, and once DC travel opens, those people will go back to older DC's, they aint going to stay here, SE should give proper rewards to people transfering to Dynamis instead of trying to play a game of pretending that the DC is fully healthy by locking an entire community to 1 DC while other people can enjoy two.

And to OP especially, I understand you, most of my friends are on crystal with some on Aether and I am Dynamis based, I am basically stuck on here, I'm not going to cut my group of friends in half just so they can come over to me on my dead DC that no one cares to go to, this restriction shouldnt be in place, but as you can see, the community as usual is divided on the problem and barely anyone is complaining, even though it should have been lifted with 7.0.1 as there's absolutely no congestion.

This is another case of "great community btw" really, people being selfish. The people that are agaisnt the lifting of the restriction are mostly on already established DC's, while us on Dynamis have no say in who comes to our DC and we cant go anywhere.

Also your post is false, the restrictions will lift at the latest on 7.0.5 which is in 11 days, this isnt a normal congestion and it was posted that it'd be lifted either for 7.0.1 or 7.0.5.

I'm debating on it as well, but more from just the general loneliness of the game. I join FCs, and nobody wants to play with me. I try to talk to people in dungeons, and they ignore me.

I know this was a server congestion is crap post, and I agree, but I am seriously debating on quitting after almost 11 years because of all the anti-social behavior I keep running into. I know it shouldn't bother me, but it does.

You can't expect them to do that everytime, but they could do it for a few weeks until restrictions are lifted. It's not so much as to prop up Dynamis than to keep these DC stable enough.
It's a bummer but bid your time for a little bit and restrictions should lift soon enough. Also try to make your transfer in off hours when you can. And if this friend is your friend, you can ask them to DC travel from time to time.

The DC's are very stable and have been since the beginning of week 2, if anything, Seraph which is on Dynamis has higher queues than Aether worlds themselves in peak time.

And it is a pity attempt at boosting dynamis numbers, if you believe this is not to force people to create characters on Dynamis, I dont know what to tell you.

Dynamis as a whole failed thanks to DC travel, and they just cant accept that it failed so they are pulling this attempt to try and save their investment, even if just for a while, which props to them will work, once transfer opens, people will have to pay to go to other DC's if they want to transfer. That'll be quite some $$

While I do sympathise (nothing kills the want to play an MMO more than having no friends to play with), does your friend + their FC not have a discord or anything outside the game?

Also the game has the community finder for cross-world linkshells etc. I moved to the JP servers when i came back to the game after a many year break (post HW -> post ShB) and while I originally moved to play with a friend, they stopped playing the game leaving me with no one to play with and only limited language skills. But I got into a couple of linkshell groups with english speakers/japanese learners and found a bunch of people to play and socialise with for a good year or so before I decided to move back to EU. I still talk with some of the people I made friends with on the other servers now even though we haven't played together since ShB.

Luckily, as other people have already mentioned, world travel should come back up with Savage release so you shouldn't be completely isolated for too long. I don't play on US and never have done, only heard stories about how dead Dynamis is, but considering the absolute state of the servers on EW release I think it was a very good idea to make new DCs. DTs release was a dream in comparison.

Joining an MMO because friends are playing isn't the best idea. You have to be sure you enjoy it on its own in case friends leave. I wouldn't say I have a lot of IRL friends who play this (just 1), but I'm active in hunt discords and do a lot of other group content (Bozja/Eureka) so it doesn't feel that "lonely".

I'm pretty sure it was announced that DC travel was going to be locked up for the start of DT so make sure you read patch notes and other info before rejoining an MMO. Also, this is not to "populate" Dynamis so much as funnel people like yourself and your "friend" to Dynamis since it's less congested. I guess I'm very harsh because if I had a "friend" who knew I only came back because they were playing, then I would hope they were willing to travel to Dynamis to play with me occasionally. If they weren't, then I'd think that maybe we weren't that great of friends. Did you make sure that friend was willing to travel to play with you?

The problem with character restrictions is DC travel. The minute DC travel opens again Dynamis will go back to being a graveyard. I would know I actually intentionally moved to Dynamis because I was tired of never getting to own a house, and trust me, as long as they turn DC travel back on it will die. Even if you are "home" there the majority will just DC travel to aether or crystal for everything and only come back once in awhile. So restricting character creation doesn't really do anything, other than make it so people in the OP's situation can't join their friends FC.

Exactly this, they are just delaying the inevitable for 10 more days, it's pointless really, the second it opens, Dynamis will be back to pre-DT, except the ones like me that are frustrated, which I am not saying there are THAT many of, but I have heard of a few people that are frustrated with it, will move away from the DC to be sure this situation doesnt happen again and we dont end up being stuck there again.

I'm really unsure what your point is by showing me world status ? But I'll entertain the idea.

Now go on that link, and look at the JP region, all DC's (including Mana, I actually had to verify in game) are open for DC travel and for world transfer, except Mana and that's only for world transfer.

Weird how that works, the JP side is all fine and can travel anywhere with 0 restrictions, but NA cant and has to be stuck to one single DC for Dynamis players and 2 for those on older DC's ?

Stop defending this decision to lock people to Dynamis, if it was for congestion, it'd have been unlocked with 7.0.1, this is to force people to create characters on Dynamis, which as I already mentioned quite a few times wont work in the long term as people will go back to DC travelling if not transferring. Congestion is not an issue anymore, and the reason why they did the lock was to prevent congestion, congestion is gone, it should have been lifted with 7.0.1, period. But please keep up the mental gymnastics.

I don't blame them for taking precautions, just for not correcting the situation when it became apparent that the servers aren't actually congested. They could have fixed it with 7.01, but decided to keep up the charade.

"As existing data centers and Worlds are expected to become especially congested, the following restrictions will be in place starting in Patch 7.0 until Patch 7.01 (or Patch 7.05 at the latest, depending on the situation) to alleviate congestion and prioritize logins for Home World residents."

They're not doing anything weird, they literally put this out close to a month ago saying it might not be 7.01.

I get it, yall want it back right now but you're creating a fire for no reason. You'll have it back in a few days. Just be patient, find something else to do with your time for now if you literally find the game unplayable just because of what server you're on. If they still don't unlock it by 7.05 then the outrage will be more warranted.

We literally have over double the playerbase of JP and 200k more characters at end game if the 2024 June census is anything to look at. It's not a conspiracy theory why they aren't locked down compared to NA, they probably just don't need it to the same extent that we do/don't require the precautions that NA has shown it has needed in the past (re: Endwalker queues). Even EU has more players than JP and the majority of their servers are also marked for congestion.

They will open it soon and you can travel and join a crossworld linkshell. You don't need to physically be in a FC to have fun with your friends. The only real drawback it accessing retainers if you're an active seller so keeping up with undercuts would be a hassle.

UPDATE...well the day is here, and still can't transfer to my friend's server...subscription canceled. Sick of this single player experience.

DC is pretty long at the moment surprising took about 20 minutes but it's up and running. The rush not sure why this time of the morning but day 1 is always or at least often a lag fest.

He can, and he does, but I can't join the FC, I can't visit the FC house, I can't visit his house, I can't join them for a trial. Quit acting like DC travel to Dynamis is a good solution for this problem.

Dont bother too much with the person you quoted, they're trolling really, they know what they're doing and are trying to rile you up.

As for your situation yeah, idk why they decided to not open aether, it'll get filled anyway with travelers, this really doesnt do much but not let people join friends/family fcs

just another silly decision by SE that makes no sense and that people will find a way to defend.

I am glad I finally managed to transfer out of Dynamis on my main though, finally could see friends again on crystal and have fun with them.

And you need to visit the FC house on the day of savage release. Sure. Again, this day being your limit is very telling. They can join you for a trial. The other DC's are open so it's not even that you are stuck on Dynamis. These are facts. You and your little friend not liking facts don't make them trolling.
