Feedback - Mounting/Flying in Solution Nine?

No idea where the best place to put this is, since there is no zone-specific discussion section so here goes.

Solution Nine is a big zone. Vast and open, and of course you can use Aethernets to traverse but it still leaves a lot of empty space that while extremely visually pleasing (probably some of the best I've seen in this game honestly, both thematically and quality), seems to be missing something very important - The ability to mount up.

We've seen as of DT that they have the technology to remove the presence of player models when close to select NPCs, and so I feel it would be possible to extend this to gear vendors to eliminate the concern of people trolling on mounts on top of them. Additionally, in EW (and maybe before but I can't recall) the "Hoofing it" debuff is present in Island Sanctuary content, demonstrating the possibility of having specific areas where mounts are not allowed but can be used anywhere else in the zone/instance.

We've not had an endgame zone where we can mount up freely and "show off" (not that mounts have much value but it's still nice) our grinds since Rhalgr's Reach back in Stormblood. I understand why Eulmore and Radz would perhaps have disallowed this in terms of logistics since they are very enclosed spaces in comparison, and I understand that S9 is in fact in doors, but in terms of space it does not have this issue at all and even has flying bikes and stuff visible in the skybox. It feels like very wasted potential to not allow us to mount up again in an endgame zone. Perhaps flying wouldn't be necessary, but mounting at any speed would be very welcome.

I heard from other players that the ability to mount in Idyllshire was added in 3.1 after feedback. Not sure how true that is as I did not start until 4.1 myself, but if so then this lends credence to the idea that it can be added without much difficulty and I feel like it'd be a worthy addition to an already amazing zone.

Please consider this, Square Enix, if you read this.

I honestly feel like this would be beneficial the area is too big and thicc like Seren it doesn't make sense for it to not have mounts ;). But forreal the area is pretty big with the minimal amount of Aetherytes. Also the immersion is ruined since there are motorcycles parked outside of the buildings so the Role Playing is taking a hit.

I agree. While we're at it, I feel Tuliyollal needs it as well despite being a main city.

There's two simple solutions to allow mounting in solution 9.

1: Simply allow mounting - but this could cause immersion or accessibility issues. So whenever someone uses a mount they get on the solution 9 motorcycle instead. Even if they've not unlocked it. They mount on any mount -> visually its the motorcycle. It's immersive and the motorcycle is small enough to not be an issue anywhere. For tulliyollal have it be the llama.

2: Solution 9 specifically would totally work with mounts, only problem areas is the inside of buildings. So simply make those "no hoofing it" zones. This would allow people to show off their fancy mounts, without disturbing people. Could be done for tulliyollal as well, but it'd be more effort.

i am not much of a mount collector myself but i very much like to see the mounts other people have collected over the years and if you dont go on hunts and do FATES you never see the mounts the players have collected , also solution 9 have easily become my favorite place to just afk and chill id love to see what people have collected over time , this also might make me become a mounts collecter myself

Agreed - its the perfect space to allow people to showcase the mounts.

They sell flying mounts and not let yu ride em. If anything they should have it so you can ONLY fly around with that 7.5m mount haha, that'd be kinda fun

In Island Sanctuary you are automatically dismounted when walking into certain areas, I dont see why this cant be implimented with solution 9. Entire area mountable except the area with all the vendors etc. Theres no lore reason why that wont make sense

Personally, I like cities being foot-traffic only. It gives them a different vibe that sets them apart from the open-world zones. There's a meaningful difference between an area where people are exclusively walking around and an area where people are driving by in their cars or on beasts of burden. I really love Solution 9's techno-mall energy, and it having exclusively foot traffic is a significant part of that vibe that I would be sad to lose.

Like, I know we have aethernet shards, but i like actually traversing through my games, not teleporting through menus...
At the very least can they let that one 7m mount be usable there as a perk?

The weirdest part about not being able to mount in Solution 9 is that the city is clearly designed to be drivable. There are literally cars, and trucks, parking garages, and motorcycle dealerships, and whatnot. At the very least we should be able to use the new motorcycle mount THAT THEY LITERALLY SELL THERE IN THE CITY! (just make the area near the crafting NPCs a "hoofing it" zone", and call it a day.)

100% agree with this, would love to be able to use mounts in Solution 9/endgame cities in general. Especially given how big both Solution 9 and Tuliyollal are

I think hunt trains are a better place for showing off mounts; I don't enjoy seeing large mounts blocking areas that get congested use, personally.

Because the zone is so vast it might be ok to allow it outside where the sky is more open, as long as the "town" portion of it where the vendors are remains a no-mount area.

agree, it's long overdue the last time we could was rhalgr's reach and this zone is way too massive to normally traverse

This is so true, I've been finding myself more and more baffled by the decisions made with recent expansions. This is something that's very clear-cut. Bring. Mounts. To. Solution 9.

I agree on the condition that they add the no-mount debuff while indoors (like in Island Sanctuary). Everyone wins because S9 is easier to traverse and can show off your mounts where there's a lot of open space, but you won't have giant mounts blocking out the NPCs and being visual clutter where people need to access things.

Flying mounts in Solution 9 please!

They can just dismount players in the market place and let us fly elsewhere.

While I could see allowing us to mount and ride on the ground just like Idyllshire and Rhalgr's Reach, I'm fairly certain flying won't happen in S9.

We tend to forget how much of what we see in a game is more 2D illusion than 3D models. If we could fly right now, we'd probably be seeing a bunch of empty holes from above. Ground mounts would be as far as they would go since our perspective wouldn't change sufficiently.

As for just disabling mounting in interior areas, technically the entire zone is interior. But yes, if mounting was allowed then those smaller structures we enter would desperately need a "Hoofing It" debuff like we get for the Moonfire Faire tower.

Both cities need faster ground transit options. Tuliyollal is huge and outdoors; S9 as noted in other comments is built to look like it supports vehicles and is scaled to suit that.

If mounts are not an option, S9 could make use of the teleporter pads already installed to bridge gaps, and add more of them embedded in the road at each major intersection, so they can carry you along the long stretches of path.

Access to the endgame vendors also feels extremely clunky after the simplicity of Radz-at-Han's near instant access to the summoning bell and tome vendor. Not only do we now need to teleport to get to the shopping district, but the main aetheryte has an oddly small targeting circle so you have to move in quite close before you can use it, and then the destination is awkwardly deep in the list below a whole lot of places we only visit once for a plot point.

YES PLEASE!! This really broke my immersion in the zone. It is clearly designed with some kind of vehicles in mind and we even see them in the background flying around. But I don't need flying, even just ground travel like in Idyllshire and Rhalgr's Reach would be sufficient. And as others have said, make the indoor zones "hoofing it" so as not to clutter the smaller spaces.

I would love a proper day/night cycle for the city too--it's weird to have a cyberpunk zone that's so bright all the time. It really turns me off from hanging out there, along with how clunky it is to navigate. I think Shadowbringers showed us all how bad constant daylight is for everyone. I know it's all technically "inside" but if Labyrinthos had an artificial day/night cycle, I don't see why this place can't. But I'm not holding my breath for that one. Mounts, on the other hand, would be far more easy to implement.

Some soft of train/tramp automatically moving around the city that the player can hop on and off. It would add to the city's ambient and atmosphere. I never like the idea of having mount in cities, it only takes one or two obnoxious person for it to become an annoyance. I will only support the mount option it it comes with an auto-dismount feature when you're off street.

FFXIV will do anything in its power to not have a moving object we can stand on. It'd probably make the game engine explode.

Solution 9 is one of my favorite areas in Dawntrail, and I really wish I could fly around to fully explore it.

Signed! Come on Square, you're are selling a 7.5 million bike in Solution 9 which doesn't even have higher map spéed, the least it could do is fly in that city as a perk if you don't want chocobos in the air.

Idyllshire didn't used to allow mounts either, and SE changed that
I feel like Solution 9 is just big enough that they might allow mounts again. Eulmore was in an actual city, and Radz was too cramped. Also I miss the days of Idyllshire/rhalgr's reach where you could actually sit around with mounts and see all the cool mounts people have collected, now the only time you see that is when people are waiting for world boss fates

Nah. No mounts in end-game areas. The problem in this game is that the mounts "kinda ruin" the location from people idling on their most flashy annoying mounts right where people zone-in. Let's not repeat of Ralghr's Reach.

Every time some discussion of "let us use mounts in X area" it gets ignored because these places are not supposed to be traversed with mounts. Ralghr's Reach and Mor Dhona tell us exactly why not to do this. Crowding, obstruction of NPC's, flashbanging players still doing MSQ or crafting from the summoning and unsummoning, and so forth.

If Yoshi-P really wants to make Solution 9 to continue to stand out, then they should add that 7.5m mount as the only mount that can be summoned in Solution 9, but change how it works inside so that you get on and off the mount without the mount despawning (it stays wherever you get off it and doesn't follow you until you trigger the mount.) This could then be retroactively be done with other cities where only one city-specific mount can be summoned and persist in the map.

I'm less opposed to there being the ability to have a faster mount in cities, but it tends to ruin players experiences when players just stand around where they zone in with the largest/flashiest/noisiest mount the game has.

Well, crowding quest NPCs won't be an issue anymore with the new settings to hide people near them, and they can probably do something similar to hide nearby mounted people when inside sanctuaries. Can also turn off action effects to prevent "flashbanging".

Making a 7.5mil mount the ONLY option to mount inside a single city would be... unnecessary to say the least, and I hope they don't do ever do that.

As much as I'd like to fly in S9, I'd be glad to just have ground mounts enabled if it were considered problematic, but I don't really see any reason not to allow it. Especially in a zone as large as S9.

While the map is vast, it is quite empty with nothing out there save a small square with vendors that’s even smaller than the useful zones in Eulmore and Radz. When I have to go there, I just teleport, click on the Aetheryte and select Nexus. In Rhalgr's Reach and Idyllshire things like vendors, custom deliveries, scrips were further apart. The zone adjacent to Idyllshire, the Dravanian Hinterlands also does not have aetherytes and entering from Idyllshire is the fastest method.

Point being, if you can buy the mount IN the city, and the city made a point of advertising that this exists, then it makes sense to be able to use just that mount in the city.

Problem comes back to allowing all the mounts inside a building. No building in the game lets you do that. The housing areas DO. Mounts and Minions take up character capacity (which is why you can't have both out.) If we allow mounts everywhere then players will demand to use flying mounts inside limsa lominsa and Uldah, when these areas were not designed to have mounts, let alone flight. Yet you can clearly see they still have the loading tunnels from 1.0, which means they likely have unresolvable out-of-bounds areas. If the developers ever restore the seamlessness of the original game, particularly when it comes to the three cities and Ishgard, then they will have to again ask why players can't use mounts in Limsa, Gridania and Ishgard when they are clearly outdoors-oriented maps while Uldah is mostly indoors.

The way i'd fix that to begin with is to just have one-mount-per-city that acts as a personal transport mount so that flight/ground movement is possible at level 1. If you buy the mount you can use it outside.

No thanks, I'd rather not deal with trolls in Lunar Whales everywhere nor do I want to chew up all my blacklist slots dealing with them. It's not difficult to use the aetheryte and having to walk a little makes the place feel more grand in scale.

Solution 9 could be cut by 75% of the area and still serve the exact same purpose it does now. It's absurd you can't mount in the zone. Especially with the option to completely hide players.
