Closing Date - 2.0

Okay, so we've received the list of things we have to complete before 2.0 launches, but from what I understand there will be some downtime between 1.23 and 2.0 somewhere. Essentially a "closing date" where the game goes offline and the next time we can log in, its version 2.0.

My question is when is this exactly? (or at least roughly) The 2.0 roadmap is a bit unclear on this because it shows patch 1.23 as ending in July (well we are at July 27 and the patch just came out...). The next step is for Aug/Sep and involves "radical changes to the in-game world", to me that says this is the point where changes will affect the content we can no longer complete. BUT! Software distribution of 2.0 does not launch until Oct so... Is the game offline from Aug to Sep? Is the schedule behind by 2-3 months? An estimate would be very helpful, as we have limited time to complete tasks! (I'm an achievement whore)

For those who won't be granted access to the Alpha version of a A Realm Reborn, there will definitely be some downtime, yep.

I am worried about this too.... I miss:
- killing the 3 tribe bosses;
- killing Garuda;
- SR5C for Aurum Vale and Cutters Cry;

.....the hardest ones =___(

That downtime is going to suck, no ffxiv /cry. I hope they release alot of information on the new site to give those of us who aren't lucky enough to get into the beta something to look at while we wait.

I'd say shoot for finishing these before October, so that gives us about 2 months. I'm personally missing Garuda and SR5 chest on the two dungeons but as long as I can complete them once in the next 2 months I'll be happy.

I'm almost done the "Sword of Eorzea" achievement, and I need lots of work on the "Shield of Eorzea one".
Besides that I just need Garuda (Hard) and to speedrun CC, my LS has only focused on AV until now >_<

I think Alpha will run concurrently with FFXIV, but when Beta servers go live, our servers will be closed down.

I still need Garuda and her speedrun/no deaths achievements, if anyone wants to help a Lalafell out.

The Lodestone History "Achievements" are pretty intense X_X I don't think I'm going to stress myself trying to do all those lol

I'll stick to UI-based ones haha, good luck though!

If the Alpha is like XIV 1.0 Alpha, it has to run along with the current version of the game. Really on the first alpha there was nothing to do. The only thing that made the alpha last was that we could only play 4 hours every couple of days. (the two first weeks were more like 1hr of gameplay because of crashes).

But then, as soon as the game was a bit more stable, there were just nothing to do in there... Reaching level 20 is really fast. The area was quite limited.

Moreover, stats were re-rolled btw each phase, so it lost of its interest to try to reach the lvl cap...

Alpha is supposed to be for their internal testing too, isn't it?

From what I heard, not exactly. A handful of people from the outisde will be granted access as well.

Ah, still that's only a handful, plus I guess it will be NDA'd, so I think most people should forget about it and be patient until beta ^^;

I think it'd be pretty cool to try Alpha, or even 2.0 Beta :)

1.0 Alpha =/= 2.0 alpha. 2.0 is using a game already produced, 1.0 was a unfinished game, it technically doesn't have to run in conjunction with each other ecause they stated it's going to take awhile to import everyone's data into 2.0 so constantly updating your data even during 2.0 testing makes no sense xD.

Pretty much this.

there will likely be some hardware testing for compatibility. they are introducing a new engine to help alleviate some of the need for a high end machine. (1.0 beta requirements were ridiculous) and I imagine this is what a big goal of alpha/beta will be.

balancing i suspect will not be a priority goal, if it will be on the list at all.

we know we're getting a new UI, so feedback will be appreciated on that. but the big meat and potatoes will likely be testing the new engine.

And how do you know anything about the details about the 2.0 alpha? You don't even use any "if" and state things as if they were facts. There is still a possibility to get a crippled alpha version, with a very low level cap, only a small fraction of the map available and couple of quest. Hence why if the current game stops as soon as the 1st stage of the alpha begins, current players will have nothing to play...

That answer makes no sense at all. The game could be already at alpha stage internally. It doesn't mean that a public alpha is already available.

In a software development cycle, an alpha version is used for internal testing purpose. That's the main purpose of an alpha. Our public alpha goal will be stress testing. Both aren't mutually exclusive.
