Why?
What a childish thread title.
Unfortunately, this is how people feel right now. "Childish" or not
Everyone has seen what lukewarm, "level-headed", unclear discussion which never paints a clear picture gets us- ignored, and nothing achieved
Brave thread title. But it really is time to start making clear, direct, to-the-point demands
I like the new models better. Even though some things could’ve been improved it looks way better than before.
No offense, but that miqo face was emotionless even before the update.
God no.
I love how my characters look now. Literally in Endwalker moderately brown Hyur was vanishing in cutscenes. I couldn't see him in a lot of the final zone during the climax and it was super frustrating.
Now he looks great! All of my characters (most of which are brown do). Even my paler characters have nicer undertones and color variation- and that's not even talking how much better I find the skin textures.
I understand not everyone is happy with the changes but I personally love how my boys look and have no interest in going back.
I like some of the models, but not all of them. I miss the old look of my Face 2 Xaela.
I respectfully disagree. The new models are a massive improvement, and the game would be worse if they were reverted.
Noone ever asked to get their characters ruined like this, noone voted for this. In less than 48 hours from the definitive gem and most precious and unique looking game to a new graphics lifeless and boring experience where you can't recognize your char anymore, char that some people's been with 10+ years and now it's just a joke.
I gotta agree. In every way the new face 2 for Femroe has been a downgrade to me. It's less expressive, the features are wrong, the cheeks look puffy and for some emotes, the forehead and mouth twitch, it's like they made the features the wrong shape and now expressions don't work for them anymore.
It's like they didn't QA at all and that they put it out for us to do the QA for them and I'm quite frankly exhausted by it.
There are definitely character creation options that didn't receive equal care (and plenty of examples of facial features being changed for no apparent reason). I mean, mine looks weirdly beady-eyed now in the thumbnail right there, like she does in the character select screen. I'm at least lucky it's better in most in-game areas and in motion. Changing the eyebrow option helped a little. But also it seemed a lot of the hairstyles I used to like now make the face look lifeless depending on how they shade it.
Also annoyingly, there are those in-game rooms that still have shit lighting for character models and it might actually look even worse now. I had kind of hoped they'd have done something to deal with the weird face geometry/normals that seem to happen with direct overhead lighting, or whatever it is exactly that still causes problems. It's not just my character either: When we first see the twins' models in the annex room, I had a pretty visceral "yikes" reaction. Thankfully they look nowhere as bad rest of the game, but it is pretty funny they chose that to be the extremely unflattering spot to reveal them.
I'm just afraid they won't fix the issues people are bringing up, because, well, clock is kind of ticking and constantly changing our characters' faces back and forth will get jarring fast.
The thread may be childish, but I get where people like this are coming from. Not everyone has the ability to articulate their frustrations equally. I totally understand just feeling upset and not having the words but wanting that frustration and disappointment to be heard.
I’ll try and say what I think they’re feeling in my own words. I do feel that the character updates do not have a consistent level of quality and care across all races and faces. Some were faithful and well executed, while others have glaring issues. Some faces have just had the original art direction scrapped entirely, to apply “doll like” makeovers. That in particular has been a disappointment to me and many others. I also feel nearly across the board, faces look duller and less focused. “Bright” expressions are gone and I see a lot of characters who looked confident and bold before now look unfocused, like they’re staring off into space. From what was shown during media tours and live-letters as well as what was promised, I feel we received an end result that doesn’t live up to expectations. I would like to see more consistency and attention to detail for every face equally. If that wasn’t possible in the time they had, they should have taken more time. Something the industry has been proving over and over is that it’s better to take extra time than release things half finished. Updating the characters people have been attached to for years is incredibly delicate and sensitive work, and needed to be pulled off perfectly. It wasn’t. The divided fan reaction this expansion is unsurprising.
Now that we look cool

you want to remove our beauty?
I'll be honest here: as someone who has been through this in World of Warcraft (I was ridiculously attached to my Draenei).... this level of attachment to a temporary video game character is unhealthy.
The models most certainly did not change "beyond recognition". Yes, there are subtle changes (to my Keeper as well) but they are not night/day differences.
I like my character as is, thank you
Now I understand why they put so much effort into making every character look exactly the same, even giving us a free fantasia in-case something goes wrong.
I also understand why barely anything changes in this game now.
Please don't.
idk about you but nia's as smug as she ever was, even more so i think
I absolutely love how my character looks now, going back? NAH no way.
I hate this graphics update and what they did to female Highlander face 1, it's incredibly frustrating after having played this same character for 10 years that they just decided to ruin a lot of the things I liked most about her when no one asked for this. The eyeshadow is so faded now for some reason and the eyeliner is noticeably weaker making my character's eyes look completely different, she looks constantly fatigued. Her eyebrow colors look washed out for some reason. They've done something to her lips that make it look like she got botox. Overall she use to have a more charming rugged look and now it's like they smoothed out all the angles from her face. In 10 years I only ever used a Fantasia to change my eye color and since this "upgrade" I've now used 2 Fantasia and I'm still not really happy with how my Highlander is.
Imagine you have a beautiful and UNIQUE Miqo Moon F4, she looks like 25 years old...... Then you won't be able to play for 48 hours just to realize when you can that your beautiful and unique Miqo is now a poor old lady in her 70s
There is no Fantasia that can change this anymore, good job.

Caps won't get you nowhere, except sounding childish.
I think my character never looked better. She's gorgeous. I wanted to switch to femhroth before the update when DT came out, but when I saw my miqo, I absolutely adored her and decided not changing.
You have every right not to like the update, but you just sound like a spoiled child acting this way and this isn't going to get you nowhere. There are multiple threads about this already. No need for another.
Change is bad. But also the game never changes and that's also bad.
These forums are hilarious.
I dunno man. I really love the new Graphics.
More of a shame that some things are still low res.
I've never enjoyed the way my character looks as much as I do now. I didn't even use a fantasia to tweak anything.
Anyway, even if tomorrow they brought the old models back they still wouldn't look the same because for that they'd also need to bring back the old shaders, the old lighting setup, the old environmental/weather settings. And they all looked awful compared to now.
Looking at the screenshot above, you fell in love with your character's look when it had unrealistic lighting and skin shading that looked like plastic. That's on you.
I'll stick with the new stuff, thank you very much.

Max settings btw
Both pre-DT and DT have lighting issues, yet that's not what's being discussed here.
The face models have changed. That's the problem. That's the whole point
This thread is "well it works for me *downvotes bug report*" personified.
Overall, I prefer the new face models over the old ones. However, I do agree that the quality varies significantly among them. For example, Viera face 2 was ruined for me, I really dislike it now. On the other hand, Viera face 1 is excellent, to the point that it feels like the developers focused solely on perfecting that one. I suspect this inconsistency applies to other races and face models as well, with some receiving premium treatment while others seem like an afterthought. This inconsistency shouldn't be the case.
That's actually what's being discussed here, whether you understand it or not. The lack of subsurface scattering in the old shaders resulted in a much higher lighting contrast that drastically changed the way we perceived the shapes of the faces.
Working with video game artists made me understand that every aspect of the visual perception of a game is entangled together. You can't point at a problem with models in isolation from the lighting, the weather, the tone mapping, and the shading.
You are the one who lacks an understanding, or perhaps you're just gaslighting, or trying to look smart
The 3d models have already been ripped and overlaid on top of eachother. The differences which are noticed in the live game in any angle of lighting are also 1:1 to a completely unshaded mesh
The "overall perception" is not what morphed my characters face and expressions into something different.
The face shape is different, the lips are different, it's all different
first you beg then when you don't get what you want you start demanding like you own the comanty sorry you don't so stop acting like you do.
Again, the old meshes with the current lighting/shaders/environment would not look as before. They were designed for the old shading/lighting/environments. That's why they had to change them. That and the improved rigging. Sorry that you don't like the way your character looks anymore but most people are happy. Deal with it.
So it is about the changing the face meshes now? The exact problem I pointed out which you said it wasn't?
If they had to modify them to "look faithful to the original design" in the new lighting engine, they didn't achieve their goal
Again, the face models have changed. That's the problem. That's the whole point. I'm sorry that you don't understand this
Yeah, I have been. One at a time.
