Role Quests are boring

Compared to Shadowbringers, and Endwalker these make no sense.

The villains are stupid. Evil just for the sake of evil? Comeeee on. I love a campy villain, but save those for Manderville, or content we actually expect that kind of character.

Shadowbringers tied into the overall plot. Endwalker was a tool that helped expand the weight of the plot, and show that the effects of the story were farther reached.

So why drag that kind of story telling to a halt? They can be lighter hearted in nature to give us a break, but they don't need to be so basic. Affairs outside of Tural also don't need to be forced. They just feel so wasted when there is a perfectly good continent that we juat unlocked.

If I had made these quests, I would have written about the different tribes, and towns. I would of had us explore their problems, and then link the whole role quest story together. Make it a mini parallel to the msq, but separated from its characters.

Could of brushed up on how the all the different races in Tural are thriving. The very end could tie into how they feel about being a unified country, and offer us different perspectives. Doesn't have to lead to a future big plot, but could of been a nice way to get some insight beyond Wuk Lamat.

Perhaps the reward could be some alternative text choices during future beast tribe quests. This is an expansion about different cultures. Tell their stories. Get deep into them! I know they won't be able to in the amount of beast tribe quests that there will be in the game. There are way too many for them all to be added in this expansion with that type of content. This is where role quests really could have shined.

Look. They're silly, and over the top, and keep preventing us from doing our job through the most ridiculous circumstances, but you know what? They're infinitely better than the MSQ, because there's no Wuk Lamat.

I enjoyed them more than the MSQ itself.

I have yet to do the Caster role quest but so far... It's another instance of Hildibrand writting bleeding into the MSQ.
They're childish and felt like they were written for a 8 year old.

I felt like there was too much useless and non-canon information and my brain decided to filter all these stories.

Shadowbringers was amazing and led to lore, discovering a twist, establishing settings for the void.
Endwalker allowed to see how the different part of the world were dealing with the apocalypse.
I expected Dawntrail role quest to see more Turaal Vidraal and hunting them but nope, only silly people doing silly thing that doesn't expand on anything and will never be mentioned ever again.

Please, keep silly Hildibrand story writing in Hildibrand content.

Well, the DT role quests aren't tied to the MSQ, they're side stories. I suppose it's somewhat nice change of pace to not have any emotional baggage tied to the role quests and them being their own standalone quest series.

At least the DT caster role quest gave me a reason for doing it as a caster (to have someone tank and me going full nuke).
EW said they needed a battlemage but not once was it needed.

I don't really have a problem with the comedy and would find it great normaly. With the forced Hildibrand quests in EW and the unfunny comedy in 6.x as well as in DT it's beginning to overstay it's welcome though.

I thought the Healer one was pretty OK. The physical DPS one was meh. I wish they were more like Shadowbringers where they tied directly into the story in a really nice way.

Oh, don't get me wrong. They're silly. However, I came into this expansion with the expectation that it would be a lighthearted adventure with small stakes. Which it was not, beside the poor writing.

The role quests are pretty much what I wanted, I can deal with the slapstick humour as long as I don't have to deal with the themes of the MSQ.

The role quests are a Wuk Lamat holiday, so in that respect they may as well be Shakespeare for me. Was a welcome diversion from the MSQ.

I miss job quests to be honest. (Yes I know, they took a lot of writing etc... I understand why they subbed them with role quests. I still say job quests were better.)

I'm not a Wuk hater. I think she was fine. Though I do agree she was way too saturated in the expansions script. She should have been a little more balanced out. I don't think she's a bad character though.

I wish they were account wide hate having to do them multiple time. Personally glad they've not attached anything important to them.

Gotta be honest, man. The Role quests (at least the melee one, only one I've done so far) are infinitely more interesting than the MSQ.

i actually liked the melee dps one a lot.

all the others feel too stupid though

The healer and Magic one felt like a Hildibrand questline.

I liked the tank questline tho, haven't done pranged and melee yet

It's better to look at the EW roles quests as a brief intermission intended near the end of the campaign while we wait for the space-ship getting fixed. Like "go check out how city states are faring while we fix things up".

So it as less about the roles themselves and more about the city states.
But unlike ShB they didn't force us to do them.

I only have done the melee one. The person in it had some good deployment that it was a breath of fresh air compared to main story.

IMO, the problem is exactly that Hildibrand comedy is so great when it's in a separate bubble. Hildibrand quests and characters are tailored for Hildibrand comedy. When you do those quests, you are almost put in a parallel and absurd version of normal Eorzea, where usual laws of physics do not exist and logic is twisted backwards. And these quests can be a breath of fresh air when you step out of the normal MSQ, and step into something completely different.

None of this really works when you just start inserting that comedy into serious MSQ quests. The right characters aren't there. The absurdity feels out of place. Jokes do not land. And you can't get away from them either. You can't say "okay, I've had my fun, I'll take a break with Hildi and go do the main stuff now."

Now, with the role quests, I think it could work, seeing as they are more separate. But this might have been an issue of expectations. People probably didn't start the role quests expecting them to be Hildibrand. Previous expansions were different. And there's still an issue of people not considering them completely optional.
