Ok, that makes two CG cut-scenes that show that killer protective shield. Are we finally going to be able to use that in 2.0?

was thinking the same thing, thank you! please implement this like, on release!
Circle of Knowing Onry
I do like the circle of protection thing. They need to give that to WHM for sure in 2.0
Lol, Was just having this chat with my friend.
Fans: Where the hell is this magic shield we saw in the first CS?

would be a neat mechanic to add to certain fights. like an AoE shield to protect from primal blasts and prevent damage to pt from anything outside a certain radius. have it drain massive amounts of MP/second and kill the whm if too much damage is taken while it is active.
Sounds like it would be a white mage 2 hour
For what it's worth, I am fairly sure that shield, if implemented, would work like ME3's implementation of their own biotic shield.
You see it in many cutscenes and even certain stages with it completely blocking enemy fire. ME3 lets you actually use it in multiplayer and it creates a zone which grants increased defense, offense and other things, which is most likely how I see it working for us in that case they add it as well.
Which, given some uncertain and most probably wrong information I heard about, means it'd probable be an Arcanist spell (I hear arcanist were originally planend to use 'trap tiles' and stuff)
I just want to be able to say in party chat... "My shield.... won't... hold much longer!!!! hurry!!" lol
yes. unabashedly yes. any of my ventrilo buddies will confirm this haha
Would suck as a whm 2hr because it's only really useful in a massive battle, not in a party where you get to many adds.
They received so many complaints about the "bubble" being in the opening cutscene and not in game, I can't believe they'd make the exact same error twice.
For me, I suspected that we'd see that infamous bubble in 2.0 since they seem to try and please every requests made, and this just confirmed it.
The Shield - Season II
(they renewed for another season yay)
I think that's just a dramatization of Protect
This!
Ive always believed it was just a physical representation of Protect. You can almost see it in game when you have protect up and you see a part of the bubble when you are attacked. I think its probably difficult or graphically intensive to render protect as a full bubble the entire time you have it up for every player on the screen.
Probably, but it kind of insinuates that you would have to stay near the caster to get the effect. I think they could render a half transparent sphere with some localized buff/debuff/DoT with no issue to performance. Would make for some interesting combat mechanics.
I so don't get it why they use skills in CGI that do nozt exist in the Game...
Thats like seeing a mcdonalds promotion telling you about that hamburger but you can't find it in any mcdonalds at all...
If we don't get it in 2.0 I start sending dead kitten parts to JP...
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say it's just a very "romanticized" representation of, ya know...Protect...
Coming from the Paladin its clearly Cover. Would look dumb if it just protected one member.
Nah, it's not protect the ability seems to be a technique known by the rebels perhaps it was something they all learned to be able to protect themselves and their allies against any form of attack. The same ability is seen used during the first LL CS as well as the last "main storyline" cutscene if I am not mistaken. The old man who seems to have quite the bit of power is able to harness it to create an enormous shield to protect a large vicinity of the area. This most likely means that the 4 rebels that we see from LL, Grida and Ulda will most likely be doing the same thing when the times comes for impact. The Miquote will generate her barrier to protect LL, the hyuran will protect Ulda and the Goofy Grida combo will protect Grida.
This will most likely explain why in one of the cutscene there is the "rebuilding hyrmstil" quest because the rebels only have the ability to protect certain areas aka the city-states so all the people living in the hamlets will most likely have to make refugee in the city states then work together to rebuild their homeland.
Meanwhile on the beastman side they will most likely use the power of their Primals to reduce as much damage as possible from their homeland.
It will definitely be interesting to see how things play out, though it is possible for us there could be a timeskip based on how dangerous the area around us is. The old man may place us in hibernation if he feels that the area in which he's erected the barrier for us is not enough to keep us safe and throw us forward in time to a point where there is no threat of Dalamud hurting us.
