Really feels like defensive ability is missing for Viper.

I only play the Mellee DPS roles and have done since ARR.
This job feels squishier than casters and the other mellee dps jobs.
It feels like it's missing a defensive button like how Monk has one and Ninja and Samurai and Reaper.

Is it just me?

I always find it fun to press it and also feels like it really helps and just feels good when you time it right when bosses do unavoidable AoE attacks, and it helps with that not feeling squishyness.

How do you make suggestions regarding classes for devs to see?
Everytime a boss is about to do an AoE i'll go to press my defensive button because I forget that Viper doesn't have one and it feels weird! :confused:

I'm fine with it being the glass cannon melee, and we definitely don't need more homogenization. It's by no means a requirement a DPS job should have one, nor should this become another thing that's just a glorified role-action.

It already makes little sense for Ninja and Monk. Mechanically it doesn't make any sense for Summoner either, but you have to have Carbuncle do Carbuncle things I guess, even if the execution of that skill is horrible.

For a job like Black Mage that's actually a real caster it has logic behind it, being a squishy job that sometimes needs to tank a hit. It makes sense for Samurai because of the whole class fantasy of deflecting a blow with a katana (and did more so when it still followed up with a counter, i.e. the classic FF Samurai skill), but even it doesn't actually need it.

I do agree though that VPR could use something else to do besides straight damage and a gap-closer, but giving it a tool it doesn't need just for the sake of homogenization itself (because this playerbase is chronically envious of other jobs' toys)? No thanks.

I gotta disagree, it's meant to be a glass cannon. I believe it could possibly use another form of utility but defensive utility wouldn't be the route I would take or suggest. The job already has three dashes that can be used to avoid getting hit in the first place.

@Thorne. It's nothing to do with homogenization. It feels like it would suit the viper role because of how fast it is and the fact it has 2 swords, some kind of deflect like Samurai has would suit the job. We can move and attack as fast as we do but can't deflect a bit of damage, feels odd.
@DomIvory. Did you miss the part where I said unavoidable boss AoE damage? :) The raid wide damage that bosses do that just hit the whole raid that can't be avoided ;)

I agree. Nearly every other DPS has one, and it feels bad when it's missing. They don't have any support skills either. Just being raw 100% DPS 100% of the time is a bit dull.

Being a glass cannon suggests that because it's less defensive than other melee than it brings more damage contribution which is definitely not the case. And with future balance patches I doubt it will ever be the case.

i wouldnt mind 1. we're pretty similar to reaper and they have maiming armor with more defense AND a defensive ability and does similar if not more damage.

There's plenty other jobs you can play that provide you with the experience you're looking for.

Viper's defensive cooldown is Feint, which it shares with every other melee. It doesn't need another defensive cooldown, just because other jobs have one.
It's okay to be different.

I like that it's a pure DPS class, it's what I was hoping for. I just thought it would of had it's own personal defenive button because it really feels like it would of made sense for the job. Having no utility is perfectly fine. I mean just a personal defensive button on shortish CD.
@Urthemiel. No, Feint is not a personal defensive CD that I'm talking about, it's not Vipers defensive CD :D that is long 90 second CD ability that is used for the group as a whole and not for yourself.

I don't want them to change the class or have them justifying lowering the dps first off. Unless?

Let me cook. What if they brought back feather foot and attached like a slight dps buff to it? High risk, high reward sort of thing.

It makes Viper a worse job, without any actual compensation. Other DPS have defensive cooldowns. Other DPS have raid buffs.
Viper gets none of that, and still only deals the same or less DPS.

Doesn't need a defensive at all. Nor does it feel particularly squishy. I don't think it fits the theme of the job either. Not every job neede a defensive cd. You have healers and tanks who can throw mit at you.

Their theme is based off a scaled being and their PvP moveset even includes a defensive named Snake Scales. Obviously you don't keep the PvP restriction of not being able to move while under its effect for PvE.

It doesn't make it a worse job at all lol.

In a raid scenario all it means is that when you get hit by a raidwide you drop maybe an extra 5% to 10% lower than everyone else. Sure, that could be the difference between life and death, but you can circumvent that through Second Wind (especially now that it has been upgraded) and Bloodbath. If you feel it really needs to be compensated for its lack of a defensive buff, then they can just simply buff the potency to reflect that, as ultimately that's a balance issue, not a kit issue.
