Why not release it earlier?

This is but a personal opinion of mine, but in case the maintenance from the company's side concludes before schedule by quite a time. I see no reason why they'll not launch the early access earlier. I understand schedule is important, but when the chance presents itself to have it much sooner than planned, why not take it? Let people have fun.

Of course, I'm saying this IN CASE the maintenance from the company's side concludes. Otherwise, it should stick to schedule, and this is by no means an assumption that it did conclude.

If by early you mean tomorrow afternoon, that won't happen.

If by early you mean an hour or so early? That may happen

They want people to have time to download a massive update so as many can enjoy it at the same time as possible.

It's 2 days. You'll be fine.

The maintenance announcement literally says, "This maintenance will not end before the scheduled ending time."

If I had to guess, SE wants everyone to be able to plan on logging in at/after a specific time rather than being stuck to their PC or console hoping that the servers come up early.

Weird. Because if you look at the EU version of the announcement it doesn't say quite the same thing.

" Completion time is subject to change.
(This maintenance work will not start earlier than the scheduled time.)"

I suppose the NA version is the correct one though, because that's how they have done it in the past.

There's probably people who care about "World First Level 100 Picto/Viper" or something.

I seriously hope the NA version is correct, because them releasing the content earlier than the announced time is always hard to plan around, and results in wasted, sleepless hours of spamming the login on the chance they go live early (which they did *a lot* in the past).

None of the x-pac early access maintaince times have ever ended early. Even if they finish early, they boot them up to the point the only thing left to do is flip the "enable logins" switch until the scheduled time.

I think that is really saying "it will NOT end early, but it could end later" which is highly unlikely but they have to say it as a disclaimer so people don't freak out.

They probably want to avoid a repeat that has happened with every previous major patch. Remember Rauban Extreme? Pippin Extreme? (name solo stance) Extreme?

The point of the Early access is to reduce the impact of this. Endwalker had the additional problem of unable to acquire additional equipment, which lead to some pretty long queues that they had to close the free trial accounts for a while.

Will this be the patch that goes flawless? *shrug* none of them have, and has only been worse with every major patch. Maybe there will be a reverse of misfortune on this.

Next time they might need to shuffle Early Access on a per server basis. On a congested server like Balmung? you have to click "queue ticket" in the launcher and the game doesn't launch until your server has room. On Dynamis? instant login. If the server runs out of tickets, Sorry.

Hopefully it doesn't come to that, because if it does, and you want to play early access, you're going to want a character on a non-congested server JUST to do that next time.

At any rate, it's usually just a week of issues and it eventually stabilizes.

tbh i know its set in stone but seeing how small of a amount we had to download to update Idk why it was 48 hours now, consindering that at tops even with slowest internet would max take 8 hours, and for those of us with quick or decent max it will take is an hour took me 20mins and im only on 500mps atm, there no way in hell for anyone is that amount going to take above 8 hours to download, unless your time traveling from the dinosaur era people with dial up.

It's also to give the hardware itself a solid break on top of other under-the-hood things.

They have to have people at work and on duty when it launches to handle everything when it goes live. Those peoples work schedules are already decided. If it launches early, I wouldn't expect anything beyond an hour if that.

SE also needs time to install the new expansion/patch on their servers. Perhaps also time to go through one final round of testing on the "real" servers. Etc. Etc.

Over the years, I'd say that the length of maintenance outages tends to track with how much new content and changes are coming.

That means that it will not end earlier but if something goes wrong it'll end later. It happened before, but with two day maintenance it's more unlikely.

Expansions never ever end up earlier. Not even big patches end up earlier. Only small patches, like the last one we had in June 10th.



All you can do is what I'm gonna do. Call in sick, set up the alarm to wake up 30 minutes earlier and then try to log in when it's time. :P

The scheduling is important because a lot of people that play this game have full time jobs and they need to ask for vacations or day offs in the first place so it would betray the player's trust to do it earlier OR later.

I wouldn't be surprised if SE also has some QA logging into to make sure everything is stable before launch.

Plus, it's nice to not be burned out jumping from pre-expansion prep straight into no-life mode for a day or two.

It being released later is out of their control if something needs extra work, but we're usually talking a matter of hours at most.

I'd rather them take the extra time before rolling it out than having to shut it all down for emergency maintenance.

54-100gb even if you only download 10mb a second you would have it installed in 6 hours ;p, and lets be honest if you have that bad of internet how are you playing the game at all? There is bad internet which is understandable, but unless your on dial up which i highly doubt in 2024 even in the worst situation possible i doubt you on dial up and if you are no way are you playing a 2000s mmo lol So even if they have to go out they can just start it and go do w/e they have to that day... However I am imply its this long for other reasons server stablity letting them rest for a bit and error testing but i call bs on this "bad internet excuse" unless someones on dial up


id understand if it was winter or torandoo season because that can mess with ppl in well middle of no where with internet but not in june/july

This is normally what happens with a maintenance. They finish them earlier than planned in most cases.

They keep to the schedule when they know there is something like a world race happening. In this case, people will rush to get world first on the extreme trials. You can say "they're just extremes", but people do those too.

Normally it is only 24 hours for a big maintenance like this, but this time they went with 48 hours due to the large download. Now, to be honest, it didn't take me long to download, but some people still have slow internet speeds.
