Why a New Housing Sytem Would Benefit

for as long as this game has been running player housing has been a hot topic for endgame content within the game and its likely to remain so but we can inflict upon it real change and we have but i think we can take it further than that.

thus far we've only got bandaid or minor fixes,adjustments, and tweaks to player housing to make it more manageable and more interesting to partake in but a glaring issue that never seems to end is the demand for supply and not just that but demand for player choice when it comes to matters of location, plot size, furniture caps, and functionality outside of just roleplay and gpose screenshots.

and sadly as time has proven they just can't keep up with the high and rising demand for a popular and much loved feature of this wonderful game so i think its time for them to re-invent the wheel a bit here and to let the old system remain alone as it is but in its place open up a place for solo individuals to utilize housing to its fullest without the need for the above mentioned constraints.
let players have the freedom and choice they desire to have without needing to "settle" for a system they don't even like or care for we're all paying costumer/consumers here(not to discredit the free trail players their opinions are valid and just as important) no one should be limited by anything or made to fight their fellow players/gamers or robot automated accounts just to enjoy something thats a feature not an exclusive deal

so with this in mind i would ask our dear developers to consider the possibility of adding a housing system to benefit solo individuals thats not locked to wards but rather its own instanced reserved space(account bound) that allows for full customization of not just looks/appearance but its overall scale/size too which should include either a large sized land with which to plant it on so people have access to both inner and outer features.
things such as being able to put down a garden for growing , and a work bench/shed for crafters to make stuff for their own benefit or for trade.
i'm not going to ask them to take anything away from Free Companies in that regard or for them to delete the current system but by adding this alternative system for specifically only individuals i feel like it would go a really long ways to helping settle disputes for housing once and for all and allow for it to truly be made for everyone and just a lucky few who just happened to get it by sheer chance.

- Dynamis has thousands of houses available, some are still mansions
- If you're choosing to stay on a packed server and bid against hundreds of people, that's on you to be accountable for.

Instanced would be cool to have, but this thread is just factually untrue as thousands of players could go get a house right now if they weren't too afraid to move. It's not a "lucky few" situation, it's a community pickiness problem.

Probably that many aren't going to care to begin with since it is a company problem, but if housing were to go instance I'm pretty sure that they lose out on money during content drought. Think about it. How many would unsub if they didn't have to worry about losing their homes for being inactive?

they wont honestly do anything with it, we have island sancurty but cant build a private house on it even though its beyond possible, the reasons why they wont ever do it

is all these people who say its a mmo it a community (same people never do anything with the house outside sitting afk by market board outside of venu loations on certain days)

and they want it to exist this way as a gil sink, since gil doesnt matter outside of getting a plot as quick as possible.

and to keep you subbed thats why they wont ever change it

In their defense, I can understand why someone wouldn't want to uproot themselves from their current server to go over to a new one *just* for a house, especially given all of the other low-population problems Dynamis has.

Hell, they're about *lockdown* our data center to prevent any of us from DC hopping away, so this might be the *worst* time for anyone to transfer over because you're going to get trapped with the rest of us and all those new houses were just bait.

i expected to see the doom sayers come in first but don't let this dissuade any of you others from asking for a better system its a clear problem and its not going to be fixed with just "adding more servers" how many times have they done that now? and yet... here we all are again talking about it. and as for Dynamis yes people will go there for housing but similarly newer comers will be popping up as well to transfer over for stability cause lets be honest here we know Dawntrail is going to be massive it the beginning of a new era for ffxiv in more ways then just story aspects so this will appeal to new groups as well and when Dynamis fills completely up well guess what all that will be left is maybe a handful of small plots an not even ones people wanted but had to "settle" for an even then not everyone is going to get a house plot YES doomers i said "house" not apartment and island learn to read. and this will be do to the sheer fact its RNG dependent on wether they even get it to begin with.
we all know the island flopped and tanked and we all know that both the player and developer doesn''t care about the apartment system like name for me when it was that apartments last got an update? go on i'll wait.

this is largely untrue they loose no money at all for building in such a system in fact if they did make it they'd see huge returns because not only will it increase interest for housing even more than there already is but people will be asking for more furnishings and more layouts etc an we all know how much they love shoving furnishings at us from completing game play content and events and for selling us those mogstation exclusives too.
with everyone having the ability to own a plot no one would be fighting for it as much anymore and if they run out of instance space then they can just add on another instanced server (remember their cloud datacenter test? that shows they're thinking ahead an not relying on stubborn JP ethics)
and lets not be disingenuous people are not unsubbing because of housing they are unsubbing because either A. their friends stopped logging in to play with them. B. they finished the content they a wanted to do and now have nothing better to do. or C.they've done everything which isn't exactly difficult to do in this game if you've noticed i see dozens if not hundreds all the time with all max classes/disciplines and have ultimate or high end raid stuff and titles from some of the most grindy content we got so this "unsubbed" issue is not due to housing ownership its due to the reasons i listed.
the only reason they added demolition was because of complaints about inactive users and because of pure greed by some exec head who gets a kick out of playing monopoly.

This makes no sense. A gil sink doesn't function when the player can't purchase the item.

It's even poorer when the player is limited to a single purchase (short of creating alts and a FC).

Compare to a good instanced housing system where there's the potential for every character (not just player) to have multiple housing instances without fighting a lottery. The more housing instances a player can purchase, the more the system is pulling gil back out of the game not just from the purchase price but from the cost of the furnishings that can only be purchased from a NPC vendor.

As a gil sink, the current housing system is actually pretty bad compared to what it could be.

housing demolition was specifically added because players got mad people could quit and keep their houses.

because lets be honest for the longest time and even now they are constantly stopping the clock on it for people who can't reliably log in due to world problems and it has never been a problem to subscription amount.

I mean they could have took that time to either a. add sizes to apartments or b. go in and make island sancurty replace housing with a private slot in it lol


yes what your saying is true alone, however with other possiblitys to solve the proplem they could have done instend to make everyone happy they like nah


as the gilsink to other person not really, heres why buy the house: if something happans and ur not on so long demo and have to rebuy, alongside constantly spending on furniture/ chocobo stable cleaners etc not even counting fcs buying multiple plots for trading the items from the fc to the main fc

i wish i could give you a better answer as to why the better options haven't been implemented but i just can't there is one of two possibilities as to why we haven't seen massive changes to player housing
1. the first case is being that they know our concerns an have seen our complaints but housing is just so low on their priority workload that by the time it is looked at they have no more allotted resources to spare an have to put it on maintenance mode til the next expansion when their resources are fully stocked up again.

2.our community reps actively hate us.. an work solely for special interests over consumer interests which would be extremely upsetting if true but given how long it takes for Yoshida to even realize players had problems with certain things in his game this may not be too much of a stretch an could be the likely culprit in which case our only choice is to go to fanfests to speak to one of three individuals: Yoshida himself(bare in mind his english is limited so he wont understand everything you say) Toshio Maruchi (global community producer) or Michael Christopher"koji" Fox :/ they would be the only ones who can make a difference an bring up our feedback in developer discussions.

they tell us all the time however to come to this forum and thats because it was designed and created to address player's concerns with various gameplay aspects they wanted to make it up to us players cause of what happened with 1.0 all those years back so we have to just hope that there is still one good developer out there among their staff who sees our concerns an can bring it up in discussions etc
but that can only happen if we're constantly persistent an keep bringing up issues or concerns so that our message is heard loudly and clearly to the point it can't be ignored.

I think the ideal system would be something akin to Black Desert's housing system. All players can buy the same house, and then it shows one instance of if it when you enter. Interacting with a plate in front of the house let you change it to another person's house-instance so you can visit other people.

This would let everyone buy a house where they wanted in a ward, and still keep the neighborhood feel for those that want it. And it could allow for people to set what houses appear around them: own house, specific house, friends' houses, FC members' houses, random, etc.

The question is if FFXIV's code could allow for something like this.

What they absolutely should do is expand apartments, letting you buy different sizes and shapes. Also for FC houses, give the option for player unlimited rooms instead of the one per member. FCs could get a toogle for 1/unlimited if they wanted to use that.

Why you will never see any significant changes to housing:

Because they cannot and will not just scrap current housing.

Just think about the backlash of announcing "we're deleting all current housing and implementing new better system."

This means they would have to both keep current system and also maintain new system.

So why double their workload when they can just... not?

i want to point out that they build entire instanced servers for new exploring zones every expansion and they all remain live to this day regardless of how old or outdated they are on top of them adding a new inn room instance for every major city zone we get as well there is no excuses why they can't do it outside of what i state in my post above^ that housing is most likely just not a high priority on their list of tasks.. even tho we'd all like it to be cause the old system just isn't cutting it or doing it for most people.
so its not that they will delete the old system in order to facilitate a new one its that they'd have to sacrifice something on their task list with a higher priority which may mean delays in like releasing an ultimate for example or delays in releasing a content patch on time.which they know would greatly upset some people but when it comes to expansions that come after concurrent though they can easily make it happen then or even when we reach the end of an expansion's lifecycle for example they have ample time to implement it then after the initial planning for the next expansion has concluded etc.

Imagine they do instanced housing and keep the 45 day demolition timer to free up server space of non used houses.
