as much as i liked blitzball in FF10 i think this is a good thing with the gold saucer and island sanctuary did we really need another activity for them to lock items behind

They should revive Mahjong by increasing it's rewards massively instead of trying to make more half baked mini games.

Then at least give us Queens Blood. It's soooo good!!

It was always dead though.

The community response to blitzball has always baffled me.......when players ask for blitzball they mean an underwater 8v8 PvP mode that has actions based on your class (defender, fielder or goalkeeper). If they gave this concept to the PvP team it would be the expansion highlight.

Nobody wants a football manager simulator, they want a fun PvP mode with less combat focus.

This game gives me a tutorial for how to move, and how to click, but not to play a foreign complicated minigame?

I feel like they struggle to get people to pvp enough as it is and investing this much in a new pvp mode that is blitzball related rather than tied to our actual jobs would be a much bigger risk in terms of player engagement than you're making it out to be as a big new pvp mode.

honestly thats depressing I would have sit in golden saucer 24/7 doing no other content but blitzball like i did in ff10 just sitting there playing blitzball for weeks. I think thats what he is really afraid of noone doing anything else but blitzball

The why is easy. Players are expecting so much, the idea is far beyond a "mini-game."

What players want is, effectively, a fully fleshed out game, and they somehow also want that shoved into another game.

Start asking them to release a full game, rather than trying to shove this into a game where it can't possibly live up to expectations.

yes we can have gaint gundam battles but not a simple game of water volleyball basicly lol that doesnt make much sense at all.. I mean pre stormblood it made sense but we can swim now.. we have action bars and fetes have us carry plush toys/boxs lol is it a risk sure, but everything we do is a risk stop worrying about how risky things are and just do them lol

A gundam battle is easy. It's pretty functionally really not that different from any other fight where we control an NPC. Fine for a one off 'go smack this solo instance boss and a bit of trash around.' Other than visual flair it's really not that much different than when we controlled Alph when he ran into Gaius back in SB.

Creating a full fledged balanced sport game with different roles that is meant to have high replay value and keep people coming back, and getting all of that to function well in a pvp environment, is a whole other ask.

And while the game shouldn't take 'zero' risks, 'screw it take any risk some posters on the forums wnat you to take' isn't exactly a viable strategy.

Blitzballer should be a job.

I'm imagining now if they did this. And blitzball games were only in the job quest and handled the same way as the hippo races in the ew beast tribe quest cutscenes. I think that would really annoy the pro BB crowd lol.

if a ps2 game could pull it off in what 2005 or something like that there isnt really an excuse for a 2024 game thats on high power pcs and ps5 now xbox systems that can emulator 3 ps2 games at same time with easy lol...

Honestly it wouldnt be that diffucult even the most simple thing with us recruiting npcs and using them in it with only our character joining, and role wise there what 2 -3 options Defender(goaly) launcher and tackler lol

I mean, that’s not what I want for Blitzball. I’d love a ranged phys Blitzballer job. We have a job where chakrams magically return to the dancer, so I don’t think an athlete with either an endless supply of balls or a magically returning ball is any less silly.

Gonna be frank: Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 didn't pull off Blitzball all that well in the first place. Despite Blitzball taking place within an enormous sphere of water, all the action happened on a simple 2D plane—you couldn't go up or down at all. So it was less "awesome fantasy sport" and more "blue-tinted soccer". And God only knows why, but when they brought it back for the sequel they not only removed player control from the mode entirely, they added a speed multiplier to the mode so you only had to spend a few seconds per match.

It was a chore in the game it was released in, and I don't blame the developers for getting cold feet after initially considering bringing it to FFXIV.

There has been a sizeable chance that we will get a blitzballer pranged job, which will be amazeballs.

But as Yoshi-P has said, he doesn't want to implement blitzball if it isn't the experience players wanted or remembered. So all you guys are doing is created an idea in his head that he can't even give you a Blitzballer job without you being disappointed and tearing it down for not being what you asked for.

He has already explained why blitzball can't really work as a mini-game. Accept it, and stop poisoning the well.

An issue with blitzball would probably also be latency issues, turning their pvp into pvping. Another thing is stop & start would have to be done away with to keep things moving, or at the very least put decisions on a timer to keep matches going. There would be the need for outfits for teams, and also if there are NPCs or Players. If they went the NPC route, that would open the possibility for the player to be more of a "coach" or "captain" and you would be going out to recruit, train, and pit teams and team comps against eachother. And if teams could go up against other player teams with that in mind, it would open up the inevitable metas for best team comps.

If the teams were strictly player teams, that would also open up to a potential variety of issues. For one, if players aren't always available and if there isn't someone that could be swapped in, would the teammate become an NPC? And what about team uniforms? The SHB instances have shown they have a means of temporarily having your character go into some kind of uniform until the event is over.

Just as players would get a lot more personal input and more immersive gameplay while opening up the possibility for drama or other sorts. You'd still have a bit of that stop and start along with latency issues while trying to make decisions; and the goalie would have barely anything to do other than catch ball and throw ball.

If they went with the NPC coach/captain route, it would be a lot more hands-off in that regard, maybe not as much latency issues, but would run the risk of becoming boring barely having any sort of input.

The PeluPelu tribal quest will be about setting up a Blitzball tournament in Tural. Calling it now! And it will be just like what happened at the end of the EW tribal quests, where something that could be a minigame was just a cutscene.

Honestly a physical ranged job that uses one to attack like Wakka would be really cool. The minigame? Not so much.

It would be about as dead as Rival Wings. If you don't give a daily reason to do a certain task, people won't do it. They really do need to put more effort into actually giving people a reason to do the already dead content in this game before they try adding more (soon to be forgotten) chores.

Blitzball is truly dead until it's not anymore.

Not just XIV, but mmorpgs in general, sometimes all it takes is a couple of years for head developers change their minds about something, even the most unlikely of things.

That's why I also think that there's still a chance of a new race in the future, despite what YP stated, because who knows how the game's development tools might evolve to facilitate the implementation.

Nope.

And if you play'd the Hildibrand quests you'd realize they have a pile of volleyball type animations in the game, so clearly something is coming down the pipe. We just don't know if that is blitzball or just volleyball, we'll just have to be surprised when something shows up.

The reason people are against it, is because it would distract the developers. We get all these mini-games that have almost nothing to do with the game. Lord of verminion and triple triad, people almost never play. Nobody plays Mahjong. Yet these games don't require very much effort on the part of the developers. Minions and Triple Triad cards can just be handed out at random for the pokemon-"magic cards" obsessive types, and the rest of the game functions without having to ever play it.

But the PvP type of content already in the game, there are people care about it, but most players don't even know it's there because they know it's a joke, the amount of times they've re-vamped the PvP shows you how broken and poorly thought out it was from the very beginning. Maybe it's good now? Probably not, otherwise people would be talking about it in the general forum asking for improvements like they do with the endless "Fix healer" threads.

Unless they are going to have a fully-realized Blitzball game, players will play it once, go "okay, I'm good", and never play it again, which then would require them to build NPC players for the 5 people still playing it. The way the game worked in 10 won't work in XIV, and the way it worked in X-2 is a shallow "minigame" that I was not compelled to play, and that version I don't want to see in XIV.

Since we have the "underwater" part of the game, and the volleyball animations, we're basically 70% of the way there to it. All they need is a proper reason for it to exist in the game, a dedicated "stadium" map that an people can "watch" and "cheer" from, that the actual blitzball works the way players want it to (remember X wasn't fantastic about this in the first place.)

If it's good, then it's good. If it becomes just a "wakka" job then I don't see people getting too excited for another DPS role that is just dancer with with a ball.

The engine is not designed in any way for a 3-D PvP environment that actually needs players to be exactly where each players sees them on their screen. Simply put, what you see other people doing on your screen has already happend some fraction of a second on theirs. It's too wide a gap for something like a sports game unless it was VERY very slow.

You move, then the server updates your location, then people seeing your character get the updated position of your character. The gap between each step is not instantaneous by any means.

TL;DR: They'd have to rebuild or build an entirely new physics engine for something most players wouldn't even play much (a la Chocobo Racing). Not worth the investment of dev time.

I wish I was joking here but... It's honestly assumed everyone knows how to play it by the devs... Because it's really that traditional of a family game in Japan and China.

Good. Blitzball is a terrible mini game. I'd rather have Poker or any other type of mini game.
