And by that I mean time travel. (To be used as a major expansion)
What I mean is, we could go back in time, to even the creation of Dalamud and possibly do things even with Dalamud itself, in it's pre-launched into orbit state.
Any thoughts?

I wouldn't mind, years from now, them doing this. However, at this point I am more interested in them flushing out the present day setting.
Yeh, not any time soon. But it would be fun running around in the past and be like "oh yeh Dalamud... I totally know that"
prob be a few years down the line before thy bring something out like this. But till then we can just keep wishing :D
Might I point out that we have something similiar to it called the Echoe power that we have. Granted it can't changed the past but it shows us what happens in the past.
Problem with that is, it only shows us something related to one person at a time.
Maybe we get an echo upgrade in some time? ^^
Yeah I said it's similiar just not the same. I know how wings of the goddess was I used to play 11 =). Problem is though we don't know what the story line is going to be yet. Now with Felis said an upgrade on the power of echoe that would be pretty awesome.
Instead of revisiting the same places in the past, why not different ones later on down the line?
Posts like this just make me realize I better get all the umbral storyline and GC quests done quickly.
way down the line can be good a thing.
but im hoping for Rise of the Zilart & Chains of Promathia big number of zones in the first ffxiv expansion.
They would handle it like FFXIII. You go through an aetheryte to a separate setting, do something and return to finish the quest. I liked it in FFXIII. Lots of people griped about it.
too soon to even look at a time travel type scenerio
wtf? we are living in the past.
I think that would Severly cheapen the Seventh Umbral Era story arc.
Unless of course, you go back "In order to prevent the calamity from beginning" and unknowingly are the progenitor of it. Time paradoxes ftw!
This sort of plot device could easily be used to make numerous instances out of open world areas, similar to Dynamis Zones in a sense. Recycling areas just with reskins and different items and npcs/mobs. Potential to add slew of new content.
Example:
Current timeline could implement ruins of Sil'dih full of wraits and zombies (Sil'dih instance dungeon A)
Past timeline zone number 1 could have Sil'dih during its time of war with Ul'dah (Sil'dih instance battlefield A)
Even further back timeline zone number 2 could have Sil'dih in its prime as a bustling metropolis (Sil'dih instance city quest hub A)
Maybe the source of the voice in the sky will have the power to do things like time travel.
It would be nice if they did this as an expansion later, they could have us doing the quests that we're doing now for those that missed out on 1.0, possibly a way for them to get the ifrit, moogle and garuda weapons too.
They should come out with an expansion where you go back in time to FF14 launch, and it would have lots of endgame content like: nothing. The story would be about stopping the evil Tanaka's terminators from killing a young Yoshi P and changing the timeline.
and you get a blue onion helm that's worthless on completion? jk for all of those who have the onion helm
if they do time travel i just hope they do it right this time.. the areas in WotG were uninspired and lame with the exception of some of the newer ones, Grauberg and Vunkerl Isle were ok
I loved the 'time travel' aspect, and I'd love to see it again. But this time it would be nicer if they could make the different times a place more worth being as opposed to a place where everything will kick your ass so you just have to avoid everything and stay nowhere for long.
