Honestly, why not,
I'm not confident in SE's ability to keep RMT out of it but the new chat filter feature coming in 7.0 should help people filter out undesirable stuff. I think a world chat would very quickly turn a bit mind numbing but I could turn it off and not see it so I don't really have any reason to be against it.
sounds good. it would also help the newbe chat.
I wholeheartedly support the idea of a world chat, since the Novice Network is limited in both capacity and purpose. However, the world chat should have a level requirement that's not easily obtained (Such as lv30 or lv50) to ensure it's not flooded by lv1 bots and RMT messages (It may still exist but in lesser numbers than without requirements)
Additionally, it should be made clear any venue advertisement can be reported and banned. While the chat filter feature is coming soon, you don't want to be that new player who enters the world chat for the first time and get flooded by such messages, as it will not give a good first impression.
If these two concerns are dealt with, I don't see why we cannot have a world chat.
Do you people wanting world chat have even any argument for it?
So like a shout that reach all zones? We have that in 11 with Yell and it's not that good.
All we see is in-fighting, trolling and RMT/Merc yells.

(Yes DennyXXX is a Gil seller. They sell Master Levels for gil, then sell that gil. A perfect circle).
Eh it's a decent way to build a community for your world by letting everyone have a global chat to talk with each other. It can easily devolve into less desirable things but thankfully as brought up earlier with the new chat filters it shouldn't be too bad to block out bad actors and you can just report them too.
People can barely tolerate eachother on these forums, how do you think this would go, personally I generally mute world chats like I did in WoW, I prefer it peaceful.
Shout chat in the zone players are in seems to work just fine. Yell chat also exists. But World chat... linking the whole server all together in one place, yeah you think you want something like that, until you see it play out in practice.
I've seen my fair share of world chat in smaller mmorpg's, and they are no picnic.
No. I like being able to just leave a city when the RMT and venue spam gets too annoying.
So, like Barrens Chat in World of Warcraft, but global to each server?
An effort to dissuade such a thing using Wowpedia: https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Barrens_chat
I don't personally see a need for it. Shout chat exists and you can just go to a popular location such as Radz-at-Han, Old Sharlayan, Idyllshire, Limsa Lominsa, Gridania or Ul'dah and have a chat.
It would only take a day for an inspired creator and a few friends to devise a World Chat Discord community. They would establish arbitrary rules without community input and then act as moderators, attempting to enforce global chat etiquette. Eventually most in-game conversations that engage in serious discussions would move to the Discord server, since users can't moderate the in-game chat. Then the discord users would call for blacklist boycotts of those who don't comply. Meanwhile, other creators are making TikTok videos showing how quickly they can troll and get banned from global chat.
I would rather pass on this thank you
have seen enough "world chat" in other games to know it would not be the rosy skied idyllic picnic you envision. people cannot police themselves, rmt bots would have a new venue to advertise in.
so, rather a hard pass on the idea.
Nope, not a fan of world chats. You have all the chat tools you need to be social. World chats always end up as spam/trolling/politics/etc nonsense. The game is better for not having it.
No, just on the basis that I can see some servers turning into RMT ad hell from being empty and others turning into 24/7 degen chat. If our community was able to restrain themselves I'd be on board but considering we've had people think it was a good idea to plaster mods on a billboard for a venue event, I can only see people running wild with this too.
But hey, if yall are on board with that then why not?
I don't know, the risk of abuse seems too high.
No thanks, the novice network is bad enough.
Not me, I'm glad GW2 doesn't have world chat as well. Most games that have them end up full of bots or obscenities.
One of the things I like about XIV is that it doesn't have world or global chat like other MMOs. Shout chat in a given zone seems to work nicely and then you can go somewhere else for quiet if you want.
A system-based world chat would be fun though.
Example would be
Automatic message
[System]: Castrum Litore in 15 minutes!
Player-based message which can be bought with GC seals:
[System]: {Endwalker Hunt-Train Starting}{Mare Lamenterum}
[System]: {ARR Fate party in PF} Link to the party
I think those would be helpful.
Novice Network already functions as one on good servers
Copy the NN format for linkshells. Linkshell Master is guaranteed a spot when they're online. Master can have up to 31 online online Leaders to moderate and remove disruptive members. Remaining 480 slots for general online members. Total membership can be more but players just logging on won't be added to the channel if it's at max online capacity already. Players who are on the blacklist of the Master or any Leader when they're online can't be invited or will be kicked if one does come online (similar to how blacklist will work for housing in DT).
Join the linkshell of your choice. Don't like how it's moderated? Leave and find another. No requirement to join a linkshell if you don't want to.
There would no longer be a need for a hundred different hunt linkshells per world. All online hunters could be accommodated by a total of 2-3 instead Most players would only need to join one. Conductors/spawners/relayers could reduce the number of linkshells they need per data center for hunt relays instead of having all linkshell slots filled just for hunts.
Similar for other content or interest groups. Fellowships could also create a linkshell to work alongside their message board and probably handle all online members even if overall membership is more than 480.
Except NN gets filled with just "graduated" sprouts who use tradecraft mentor to retain access to a global chat without having any actual interest in helping others. That prevents mentors who want to help from joining the channel. I know SE has said they're re-evaluating tradecraft mentor requirements but we don't know when they might be changed or how extensive any change will be.
Give them a separate global chat and more actual mentors would be in NN to help sprouts.
Discord. Discord is the world chat. Practically every DC has a dedicated discord server. While you may not approve of who moderates them, it's better than Novice Network.
And Novice Network is lawless enough as it is. I can't say how many times I've seen inappropriate topics brought up in it, or how many mentors I've seen arguing, or how many times a sprout asks a question, and either gets joke responses, or totally ignored by the mentors who are supposed to be helping them. God forbid you disagree with any of these mentors, because some of the power tripping mentors will straight up kick people without much of a reason to do so. World chat would be a trainwreck.
No thanks. While it seems good, going by the local yell and shout chats, nah don't need that stuff.
a world chat is amusing though.
and i mean, its a chat you can turn it off. nobody is forced to look at it or even has it shown on the screen.
therefore i dont really understand that much opposition. people who dont have a use for it? sure. but people who are against it? thats weird since it doesnt affect them.
also it would add a way to communicate with thecommunity without having the need to stay in a specific city. you cant even change cities when you want to continoue a tslk with several people. aside from possible toxicity it can also help in get to known more people... something there isnt really a good way in this game
I love to have a world chat. It is so much fun watching them because of wierd people and drama. NN is too tame.
considering i have never enjoyed such peace as i enjoy currently since quarantining /shout...
guess there is space in that tab for another
think its a great ideal, should have an opt out function sure, but its definitely needed, one this game fees so lonely at times, a way to chat with people, advertise your FC, or even announce a hunt train without the need for being in 10 different linkshells and 3 discord servers to know its forming, it will need a right click report function for offenders, but all and all its needed.
seams pointless not to. NN is already used as 1 and even has its own social hierarchy. just dont let free trials post in it if u wanna block rmt. and ofc. venue shout ads are already against TOS, so yea theyll show up in that chat, and get muted/reported like they already do
It would just be a spam fiesta like it is in Wow. The more we connect, the less we do. I don't want to see your venue spam or your Barrens chat. I would leave it immediately.
Aslong as one can leave this chat, why not.
NN is a bad example and in my opinion is populated by people who are present not to help sprouts and rather there enjoy massaging their own inflated egos whilst having a neat little private chat channel in game. I can see why some people are hesitant for a feature like this to be implemented in the game given the daily Gil Seller spam when you enter a city, however it may be useful. My only concern here would be that it would end up becoming to FFXIV what Barrens Chat was to Warcraft:

So long as the ability to "opt out" existed, I don't really see the overall harm.
