Anyone know how to sign up and get on bored with the 2.0 beta? PC or PS3.
we won't know really nothing till august.
Japan Expo were to lucky ones ~.~.
I wouldn't be surprised if at some point they just start activating live accounts for beta access.
I suspect they want to get the curretn community in there, trying it, finding bugs and spreading word of mouth.
All I can say, is I better have Beta Privledges. I have been here since day 1. I deserve it.
I imagine we will all get in beta since that's when they shut down the current version for data transfer. Its alpha that I think will be the select few.
Must everything digress into an arguement on these forums...
Yes.
I would be surprised if beta was anything aside from just giving the current players early access to 2.0, at least on the PC side of things. Correct me if I'm wrong, but everything we've heard of so far including the Japan Expo only applied to PS3 beta right?
You know it would be nice if they allowed all of us to join the beta. My main things is at first I was waiting for ps3 release because I was going to play the game mainly on my ps3 since i had a lousy comp but since i've upgraded my comp. I'm still going to buy the ps3 release so I have a copy of the gameand have it on my ps3 if i wanna play it. However, we've been entitled and given a lot of things because we've stuck with them. Would it be nice if they allowed all of us to join the beta? Yes, will they do it? We can't say for certain. We'll just have to see what happens when it happens.
I registered for both - PC/PS3, even if I'm on PC since the release - beta versions during the Japan Expo. I'd stake my house on beta keys given away at Gamescom too.
brb im dumb and forgot the fact the legacy was made to reward those who stuck around and i expect to get double treatment with beta too or ill get very angry
I get the distinct feeling that you will need to sign for the PS3 Beta, however, while I bet there will be sign ups for the PC Beta, everyone currently playing probably won't need to sign for the PC Beta.
I use as evidence, the Development road map, It shows that the 2.0 Client will be available and distributed a whole month prior to the start of the PS3 Beta.
Who gets in will largely depend on what they want to accomplish.
If they are testing hardware compatibility (new graphics engine, very possible) it will depend on the specs of your machine.
A lot of times testing things like the UI, balancing, etc. comes as a secondary goal in beta. you may find this a little odd, but while testing hardware you're testing this too. because it's something that will happen independent of machine specs it becomes a secondary criteria when selecting applicants. if you have experience beta testing, obviously you'll have an advantage.
the beta will likely be in phases. initial phase i'm guessing will be hardware compatibility. followed by server stress testing. the whole while they will be looking at testing out the new UI and some of the new systems. we aren't really revamping abilities (except crafting) so balancing will likely come in at a very low scale. unless they've changed the damage/enmity formulae, in which case balancing will come into play. but seeing how short the beta phase is. it's most likely server testing and hardware compatibility.
how long you've played is really irrelevant. I would love to see the people who stuck with it get rewarded. but that's what legacy was all about. you're getting a cheaper sub fee. a mount. and more character slots.
it's a really bad idea to look at it as 'I deserve to get in.' because, really, why? you've been loyal? Legacy takes care of that. You don't really deserve anything.
it should be more 'I am a great applicant because...' I've beta tested over 25 MMOs. Inclduing TSW, SWTOR, FFXIV, HGL, LOL, Aion, and Terra. Have great PC specs and know how to trouble shoot. I'm an active member of the community and help with troubleshooting wherever I can.
Unless SE still has our PC specs logged (and they probably don't) you will likely need to sign up.
I dont think so.
Why would SE give Beta-Access to all the Legacy Member? They want people for Beta which find Bugs, report them, have an keen eye for bug-finding etc etc. You will be able to register at a certain point, but giving all Legacy-Member straight Beta-Access while at least half of them just want to play, instead of finding bugs, is ridiculous.
I think Japan Expo was "pre-registration", no one is 100% guaranteed to have access.
As for all Legacy players to have access to beta, I hardly doubt that, at least not on early phases... we're just way too many. And on top of current subscribers, SE wants to hear the voice of non-XIV/non-XI players as well.
Legacy players get priority access to the beta. Does that mean we all get in? probably not, but it does mean that we get a chance before anyone that's not a legacy player. That most likely means that only legacy players will be in the beta.
They said there's no guarantee (especially for legacy members) of the current playerbase all getting in. At best they'll try to but who's better to test 2.0?
The current playerbase who feel entitled.
Or the new playerbase they're trying to target?
To be honest, even though I been here since day one alpha I can safely say they're going to try to get as many non-current players in as possible for beta while Alpha they'll try to get as many in as possible since they said it's essentially a stress test.
If you people think all current players "need" to be in the beta, you all have no idea how betas actualy work
a Beta needs to draw from EVERY community of gaming
they need good systems, bad systems, max specs, min specs
differnt brands of cpus, etc etc
they need different playstyle of players and so on and so forth
and they can only put so many people into it at a time, so you cant just say "all legacy gets in first" as legacy players do not encompass all aspects they need to test
remember, its a TEST, you arent supposed to be "playing"
Especially considering the amount of:
"Wait, lifetime discount for XIV if I get on this shit now and get Legacy? I don't care that I threw this game away a week after launch, SIGN ME UP!"
Legacy members. I do believe they'll want as many people that haven't played XIV as possible because they'll in turn tell their friends that it's a good game if the beta isn't horribly broken and pretty much guaranteed to come at least a 1/4th close to XI's success rather than complete failure.
um, i think you misunderstand the reason for betas too
its still a test period, not an advertising period where you show people how good your game is
they need a wide variety of people in game testing out to make sure everything works, that different systems can handle different things and so on
sure you get to show people stuff too, but thats not the main point of it all, its to make sure a game is ready for launch and WORKS.
No, I know exactly what a beta is. The more people who touch XIV that never touched it before, especially during it's testing period is a lot better than people who have been playing it the past 2 years.
If the beta is polished, that can only mean the game itself will be which is why you'd tell your friends to keep an eye on a potentially good new MMO coming out.
Open beta is almost always about stress testing the server and see how the load is distributed against the new engine(s).
Polish does come from feedback, but it's a part of the natural progression of what players want to talk about.
many players think 'Oh, they want me to tell them how they can make their game more fun. so i'll talk about that.'
and the feed back will go to the devs. but this feed back, if it is implemented, won't be seen for months. it has to be developed. tested internally. validated. and then released. Polish comes well after release, and well after beta.
what will be implemented is emergency fixes to the UI. or ground breaking bugs/oversights. "I can fish up 100 fish in an hour. turn them into a hat. and NPC the hat and make 2m gil an hour." or "If i move the minimap partway off the screen, it glitches out and doesn't refresh my position"
They should be reporting bugs, thats half the point of beta testing. Even if your not familiar with code. this thing happened here and this happend i was on this class with this blahblah etc. can be helpful. As much as having fun being in a beta can be. Bug hunting should be on your mind when your beta testing. not beta fun-time or beta-learn stuff before others. Beta-testing ^^
Sadly beta = early preview to this generation of MMO players because that's exactly what the companies consider their beta. They only use the term beta to cover their asses if their demo is broken in any way so the press won't hop on their ass about a broken game.
I would expect at the very least legacy accounts will all have access to the 2.0 beta and a high possibility of everyone with an account when the servers go down will get access.
^^This. But i'll add one more thing... There's maybe 30,000 of us who are at all active right now...
Obviously they are going to add more servers as well, although that might not be at the start of Beta, still,
They could add all 30,000 of us into Beta and still have gobs of room left over that they want to fill.
We're not going to get 'priority', but unless tens of thousands of random new people sign up on day one to test the beta, and none of them can be PS3, because that starts a month later, we'll get in by virtue of 'lack of applicants'.
I know what beta-testing is and how it works. I worked in testing for both hardware and software and I actually develop flash games as a part-time job ^^
I know everyone should ideally be bug reporting. I wasn't saying no one does, I simply said that unfortunately not everyone does.
