What a dumb idea. This crap should be like a blue mage; it's absolutely silly trash.

tbf, just because its based on someones abilities in another ff game doesnt mean its good.
i dont like it either, but in a world of different kinds of magics like ff14 its not too weird i guess
Picto just stings me because IIRC it was used on ONE character (that I doubt many people used much) in ONE game, and she really didn't have anything that a blue mage couldn't do. It's like sticking the finger to blue mage and saying "sorry, we can't work you into a proper job. Instead, let's bring back the walmart version of you and make IT a proper job"
Also, Picto being chosen over GEO kinda had me baffled. Every bit of setup GEO needed to be introduced is already somewhere in the game, and it's been more prominent throughout the series as a whole. I (probably foolishly) got myself excited to get back to using the elements and ringing those handbells from FF11, so I guess I've got only my expectations to blame.
Whatever. I'll probably end up leveling Picto anyway since I level everything. Whether I actually play it or not, I guess I'll know when it comes out. I just hope it has a few cast times.
You’re playing a game with moogles, catfish who get drunk off tea, and moon rabbits who spend all their time clubbing and eating carrots but this is silly?
Hope you find some enjoyment in PIC once it's released.
While it may not be like you or the original thread creator wanted.
Many others wanted it.
Don't paint the fact that some folk dislike limited jobs as a reason for one to exist and the other not.
_______________
Me personally, the only thing I dislike is how the colors look ingame. I'll come to bear it, though I would of liked more Metallic/Glow like in the Trailer, And/Or Caligraphy Paint/Ink.
I honestly think Picto is more based on Griseo from Honkai Impact 3rd. But hey, Final Fantasy 6 had it first!

Because Runefencer would have been so much more realistic, right?
Only complaint about pictomancer is that it seems like they made the wrong nation the source for it's origin.
In the blue mage questline they mention that BLU is pretty much a bastardization of some job from the new world, which could have fit the description of pictomancer since both jobs replicates in some way. But instead pictormancer have it's origin from Sharlayan, i think.
I hope you all know this is obviously a troll post, right? The OP is clearly just trying to get a rise from people.
In XI Dancer was absolutely ridiculed at announcement. Everyone was sure it was going to be useful only as a support with /whm sub, because no one could wrap their minds around what the devs were thinking. How could it possibly be useful as an actual melee job? We all thought it was ridiculous.
And then it released, and it is *the* most used, popular, and utilitarian job\subjob in the game. Everyone and I do mean everyone uses /dnc for low man and solo. /dnc as far as the eye can see.
So yea, I give SE the benefit of the doubt now when they announce something that my primal brain immediately thinks "well that's dumb".
Considering we know there are no GEO job stones, the main teaching NPC and his growth unlocking the potential of the discipline is locked behind another job’s questline, and the lore book and NPCs in-game say it’s basically just AST/CNJ, I wouldn’t hold my breath.
If you don't like "absurd, silly" stuff in your video games, I have some bad news for you about the Final Fantasy franchise and setting...
Are you sick of the fun and colorful pictomancer? Are you looking for lore-friendly and serious jobs? Do you have a violent allergy to video game paint?
Friend, have I got the job for you appearing in 8.0!
Introducing: The ultra edgy, ultra badass, amazingly cool PURPLE MAGE. It's an exclusive job from the darker and edgier Final Fantasy 19, and it's a DPS job that'll blow pictomancer out of the water.
Get ready to have features like a 69000 potency spell that makes your eyes bleed, a job action that instantly negates any damage taken for 420 seconds, and finally an OGCD in which your character says "Fuck" and whatever enemy you're fighting instantly dies from 1000 razorblades to the kidney!
The Purple Mage is totally lore friendly, totally original, and 100% your new main coming in 8.0 alongside the new healer class the Merchant! (The Merchant automatically pays the subs of any party they join which prevents "you don't pay my sub" excuses)
Dancer is absurd. Prancing about in battle? Preposterous.
Gunbreaker is absurd. That weapon would break your arm, if it didn't blow it clear off.
Bard is absurd. Pulling out a harp out of your butt in the middle of a battle and play a little ditty? That's a good way to get killed.
Astrologian is absurd. What kind of mid-20's yuppie crystal healing tarot reading crap is this?
Sage is absurd. It's just Gundam.
Don't like a job. Fine. There's 20 other Jobs in the game you can play. Not everything in the game is made for you. Don't piss in other's Cheerios.
I just want to see it in combat with those paint splatter and see how it affects others. Only thing I will use it for is to get it to max level then never use it again. Looks way to cartoonist for my liking. Relm at least looked real and not cartoonish.
Most obvious bait I've seen in ages. This was posted two hours ago almost exactly, it's nothing but whining, nothing constructive or interesting, and yet it's up to the third page already, c'mon people
I would imagine we'll get Geomancer once the rest of Hinigashi opens up.
This game has horse-sized chickens, flying cat-bats that carry your mail, sapient rabbits in turbans who play a crucial role in stopping the apocalypse, and a questline with a walking slapstick joke and his bomb-happy sidekick, but NOPE the pictomancer is too silly for this game.

im sold. so ready to skip 7.0, my body is ready for mayhem that's PRM!
What little I have seen of Picomancer so far I am not a fan. It's the overly cartoonish splat graphics that are the big turnoff for me. Not the class itself. I fully realize others like it. To each their own.
In all seriousness, I get why some people don't like it, but I am looking forward to trying pictomancer when 7.0 rolls around. It'll never replace Red Mage as my main job, but I'm gonna enjoy leveling it anyway. I don't think it's too silly or too cartoonish for the game because there's at least a whole laundry list of "silly and cartoonish" things in this game. This game had a Fall Guys crossover event not too long ago and the minigames were fun, and the glamour was also heckin' cute.
People who have no problem with the "asian stripper job" shouldn't have problems with "western painter job". Honestly having some variety in our mDPS aesthetic is good, and not another "channel the element, but mostly fire"
This bait is so poorly implemented...is this what the very very end of a patch cycle is always like?
We really need Dawntrail...
Saying there are already silly things in the game is about as valid of a pro argument as is the job being silly is an against argument. Just a little FYI.
I for one never disapproved of Pictomancer for reasons of it being silly. I was just confounded due to the fact that no one was asking for it. It's like the devs threw a bunch of ideas in a hat, and that's what was drawn.
That being said, the aesthetic of their glamour and battle effects just doesn't fit what we've grown accustomed to in FFXIV. The job looks misplaced, much like how it is clear that blunderville is a totally different game, but that was temporary. Pictomancer is permanent.
To me, it's just difficult to fathom that this is what the dev team cooked up when coming up with new job concepts in the time frame they had to do so. Especially with other perfectly viable choices that are in demand such as geomancer, green mage, time mage, and chemist. Some of these even have existing lore in the world of FFXIV. You can't blame some players for being upset.
While Pictomancer wont be anything i will play longer than it takes to level it to max, im happy for the people who enjoy such Art directions. I myself will _probably_ dip right into Viper since FF 9 was the first FF i ever played before smashing through all the others available on the first playstation back then.
