Female Hyur Face 1

My Wife was in Tears today. She mostly plays F Hyur with Face 1 wich is now unrecognizable. In Fact, if you give them different Hair they look like 2 different Faces alltogether. It is even worse on darker skin colors.

Before: She looked like a young and kind Lady being happy about her life.

After: BLANK STARE I WILL EAT YOUR SOUL

For a moment, she thought of not playing Dawntrail at all which hit me like a truck. Luckily i convinced her to give Bunnies or Au Ra a Try.

I really want to know the thought process behind whoever made all these lip change decisions. It seems like everyone got the short end of the stick when it comes to that.

I also wanna point out how the new Face just melts into the Neck as if there was no Chin.

I noticed it when they did the previews at fanfest. I'd be lying if I said I wasnt disappointed. At least the grass moves now though like it has in WoW since like at least BFA lol

The eyes look like the character is a soulless shell now :(

I feel my midlander will be totally ruined by these changes.
I tried running the character creation and benchmark with 0, 50, 100 gamma correction and yet she still looks ugly to me from every angle, in every lightning i see.

1. Dead stare.
2. Uncanny waxy glow on the skin.
3. Don't like the new lips.
4. Eyebrows are lighter and look like they are painted with a pen and starting to fade away already.
5. Jaw and neck melts together.

This… especially the Lalas! But almost everyone looks like they got new teeth and are struggling to adjust! Seems like the lips had better definition before the update, although some of the colors got stronger or weaker depending on character race.

With my Hyur (Midlander face 1), I’m torn… it’s definitely different, but I’m wondering if they changed the entire architecture/structure of the mouth somehow, because certain emotes in the random stances on the character creator look different to me. Like the goofy smile she makes in the pose emote… actually looks not as odd as it used to.

I probably spent a good 3 hours in character creator yesterday… I’m just trying to remind myself that I never like my character in any of the scenes you can choose in the creator. There’s always something I find to adjust later. Wish they were giving us a 3-pack of Fantasia!

It is probably just the lightning. You can tell the models are identical. It's just different colours/shades. I wouldn't quit that easily. There might be settings to shade them back to their more original appearances.

It is not just the lighting, and the models are not identical. Close, sure, but subtle details have profound effects. If you look closely you can see places where the shape/sculpt of various features have been visibly changed.

Not only did they change the textures which make it look like a completely different face, the model itself has changed. The cheeks and eyes are bigger and the overall shape of things has changed. My hyur doesn't look like she used to at all, I feel so disconnected from her, it really bothers me :(

The face paint for extra make up on face 1 also seems to be more invisible now, it's barely noticeable and with the option to have eyeliner on the upper eyelid being so softened now too her gaze has lost her personality completely. I truly do not recognize her

Especially when turned into bright light Face 1 Looks completely different now.

Yes for some reason it is worse on dark skin. The old Features are completely lost.

I don't recognize her at all even on the benchmark screenshots with the supposed better lightning people are saying. This is not the character i have been playing and if they meant to keep the spirit of the character alive with these "upgrades" my character seems to have lost everything.

In this side by side comparison, you can see that her cheeks have shrunken back significantly where they meet her nostrils, causing her nose to look much bigger and wider overall. This is nose 4, which I choose because it is the smallest and thinnest option available, so I don't like that it has been given such a larger emphasis in her facial balance.

Here's both traces overlayed on her benchmark appearance for a better visual of what I mean. Additionally, in this image you can see that the shape of her eye has been changed; her lower eyelid has a much more pronounced upward slant. You can see how much of her old eye was cut off by comparing the red and green lines. To me, this makes her look like she is squinting all the time.

Here are the clean screenshots in case anyone wants to judge my linework. I definitely didn't do a perfect job, but the nostril and eye differences are dramatic enough that it doesn't really matter.

Again, I feel the need to ask: Why these arbitrary changes? In my personal opinion the benchmark face doesn't look more natural or realistic aside from textures, and it came at the cost of a pretty large alteration to the overall balance of her face. What would have been wrong with just using the same general sculpt and updating the textures/lighting/etc?

(P.S. if anyone is wondering if these differences are because the faces might be very slightly rotated from one another, I made sure they weren't by selecting the inn background and making sure that not a single background element moved so much as a pixel when I tabbed between the game and the benchmark.)

Sorry in advance that I'm about to post this in every fem midlander thread, but I hope it can offer some more explanation as to what's been bugging all of us (especially since I imagine a LOT of us use nose 4), as well as provide more grounded feedback for the devs.

Biggest issues for me are the shape of the mouth. The shading under the eyes. The eyes themselves. And eyeliner color. Everything look quite flat in the new face. While the old face had nicely defined lips. Had more lifely eyes. And darker shading under the eyes, which the new face is missing completely. Eyeliner color on the new face is a strange light blue ish color on lower eyelid, while the old face texture had more natural and slightly darker fleshy color.

Every change they made to the face makes her more expresionless.
