so far, from what I have experienced, it doesn't seem like lag is too bad for me. I did a MSQ roulette and lvl 90 roulette with little issues.
Seems pretty obvious to me that Inter Regional travel although in Beta seems to work as well as DC travel as it existed before. I'm certain if they wanted to open back and forth to everywhere it's an option for them technically and it's just a matter of making the decision to allow it everywhere. The travel was quick and limsa is packed on Sophia. Hopefully this will help the DC with DF and make playing there so much better.
I'm sure housing was an eye opener for many who took the time to look and see how many houses are up and open for sale.
Connection from Aether to there took a little longer then if I went to another NA DC but once I got there everything worked pretty well. I looked at some stuff on the MB and also did an Expert Roulette. I thought it was really cool not just seeing the Oceania players but also the EU and JP players also visiting.
Was pretty dead in the overworld but an Aussie friend told me when I was playing was dead time, so makes sense.
The games playable up to like 200 ping anyway, speeds many europeans were already playing around in their NA chars.
Im curious how players interact if the feared 'culture clash' doesn't happen, then all the panic about ' the clashing cultures' is going to seem silly
I get to play with friends that live in other regions now. I've been helping a friend who lives in Australia with some dungeons. There's some lag, but that was to be expected.
There are so many players in Limsa but none in PF.
It's called adapting. Everyone will adapt because nothing will be done. If a clash happens, it will happen early then be old news a patch later as it settles in. The same as any other clash in existence anywhere. The people who caused the clash will eventually keep their mouth shut since the damage can't and won't be reverted.
It works pretty much exactly like any other server travel, but as an EU player who plays on NA, what I really want is to be able to travel to EU, since OCE is pretty much the opposite side of the world to me. I'd be scared to do any high end fights with a >300ms ping. Will be like the bad old days of playing Quake on dial-up except FFXIV doesn't do any sort of prediction
I have better delays with OC DC than NA DC, OC shows slightly a bigger number, but it feels more stable, than NA one with random spikes
Personally, I have managed to find several PF groups on OCE that I wouldn't normally find on JP, so I've managed to get closer to achieving some goals (like morbol mount)
I don't see many Japanese speaking players really that interested in traveling (happy to stay in JP).
One HUGE downside if they open travel to everyone to any DC is that cheaper markets like JP will get pillaged and abused by those with higher inflation (I remember how amazed I was when I moved from NA to JP at the end of StB and seeing how much cheaper everything was)
I think they should just keep it to OCE only, so that people wanting somewhere to mingle can do so without causing trouble for others (every DC has its own market, way of doing hunts pfs etc)
I've been incredibly happy to see some of my JP/Aussie friends again. The events have been fun, and even with the high ping (250-350ish connecting from EU) casual content is fairly doable.
I think if they do open the gates for other datacenters, the market prices will even themselves out after a while like it did with DC travel. Just simple supply and demand.
I've been meeting people from various Data Centers in Duty Finder. They're often just there to help out as well.
I was planning on visiting and checking things out but my impression from some of the posts on here was that we, from the NA DCs weren’t welcome so I didn’t bother.
Tried it out today and my first impression was that the server seemed really quiet. Queues were short for trial roulette and I had no problems healing and dodging aoes. Lag was very noticeable, though, so I wouldn't want to do any hard content on non-EU data centers.
