After reading the article where Yoshi said that the Dev team is going to update the relic approach so it will require more than EW, I wanted to propose an answer to their question about making it easier to gear for alt jobs.
The first relic weapon would be involved, lots of story, lots of questing, dungeons, raids, FATES, etc. Give us something to do, keep us involved, starting at patch 2.1 please... /prettyplease
After finishing the current step, all additional relic weapons for alt jobs could be purchased using tomes as they were in EW but only after you do the main quest up to the current step.
Example: Do the full quest to get the i700 weapon for your main and then 1500 tomes for each of your other jobs. Then continue to get the i730 weapon for your main and an additional 1500 tomes for each other job to elevate to the next step.
For the Savage raiders, maybe drop an item that can be used to totally bypass the 1500 tome step with a single token, one per raid boss. That could also help keep people doing the Savage raids a bit longer before they go stale.
I believe that this would give everybody a good compromise where we want something to do but keep the easy access to alt weapons. In my opinion, it wouldn't diminish the relic status as you had to go through it once. I don't think most players would want to do the full quest over and over and over again.
For those who do, maybe have a NewGame+ option for the relic quest so that you have to do it all over again for an alt but make it selectable.
What are your thoughts? Is this a good compromise or do you have better options you believe the Devs should be aware?

I actually love this idea, only thing i would change is it being the field instance we do everything in, but after we do 1500 tomes and or a savage token.

Yes please. I don’t mind grinding for the first one, but I play multiple classes and level them all and I don’t want to have to repeat steps for additional weapons.

I will always be of the mind to keep field content and relic progression separate. Ishgard Restoration is a great example of expanded content that works despite not tying any of it to relics. Eureka and Bozja both would have been fine on their own. The content incentivized itself. Now if you want to progress either of these relics, you are in for a really rough time. It should be clear now that relics were never really the reason why players did this content. I would have hoped that the dev team would have learned this lesson.
The way I see successful relic content in FFXIV is a combination of Zodiac/Atma and Manderville. I agree that progressing steps with tomes is viable only after the step(s) are completed initially so it is easier to obtain additional relics for other jobs. But there should be a grind there that incentivizes existing content to give players something to work towards in between patch cycles. Much like Zodiac/Atma, relic content should be designed in a way that make it so players can still progress it on their own at any given time. Not just when the content is relevant.
If relic steps in DT are exclusive to the field content, this content will suffer the same fate as Eureka and Bozja. -

I think this way because I spent a lot of time on my first one in Heavensward, as well as a lot of time on my first one in Stormblood and a lot of time on my Shadowbringers one. But when it came to doing more of them I just put it off because it involved doing duties and getting items from different places.
So grind for the first one, but not subsequent ones would make me happy. -

Yea it would be the best of both worlds. Need to do a grind for each step only once and subsequent relics can simply be bought with tomes.

But what I mean with this is, with these you had 1 time exclusive steps which helped pad out the initial relic, which seemingly was enough to sate the grinding appetite for people, and then you just had core steps to the relic weapon itself, which was still enough to sate people, without really being a gigantic grind.
Now I know the argument could be made for this being the case with EW relics, with the completion quests.... But I don't think they really hit the same nor pad it out in the same way that the Resistance Remembers, Spare Parts, Tell me a story and A Fond Memory padded out the core relic. These were small grinds, but collectively they did make the initial relic quite a grind, without impacting subsequent relics.
I think similar to that is the best way... Whilst 1500 tomes is a solution for subsequent relics, and whilst I have found it a boon in encouraging me to start doing hunts... I still think in general it's still not necessarily a good solution by any stretch for the wider game. Mainly because the tomes being used still impact other areas of the game, e.g., people augmenting crafted gear as a means to help gear other jobs, or just in general as a bit of a catch-up mechanism. Same thing with if you're gearing your crafters and gatherers with the crafted gear... Granted, it's not like there's a huge deficit with the latter, I just still don't think it's healthy to funnel all those tomes, at least current expansion tomes into the core relic. Especially when it is step-after-step-after-step. -

It probably is an unpopular opinion but I would rather have something that feels like I am actually working towards an incredible and fabled weapon rather than attaching it to content that is almost unrelated. Eureka and Bozja were fine and all, but the point of the content wasn't to get a weapon, it was to go through a nearly unrelated story and grind out mats for it while you were there. EW was just Hildebrand insanity that you got a relic from at the end of. The ARR relics were all about the relic, there wasn't another story presented along side of it and that's something I appreciated about it.
