White Mage (Remove Medica)

Why does White Mage have Medica and Medica 2 when Medica can just be upgrade to Medica 2 just like Glare/Stone, Dia/Areo.

I know that it is a low level aoe heal and I get that but after some time it should just upgrade. I feel it is a waste of a button when you are level 90.
Like a White Mage could have another potential skill for that spot since we get cure 3 which is a better aoe cure. Not to mention you don't want to overcure so you wouldn't be using Medica 2 that much either.

I'm not saving to make it as complicated as AST but it would be nice to get a new ability that gives more mp back because I feel I go through mp more as a whm than any other healer.

Tldr: Remove Medica when we have cure 3 or just upgrade it to Medica 2 this is silly at this point. (I know you don't have to have it on your hotbar and I don't itvs just a waste of an ability there)

The issue with healer skills is that it seems balancing team still wants to act like MP management is an issue so even if skill is better by all accounts (Medica II, Cure II) if it costs more, it will be separate skill. Plus, think of all in-depth mechanics of Freecure trait!!!

Yeah, I'd like to see stuff like physick, benefic and cure to just be rolled out once their upgrades come too tbh.

thats the issue right there. to have a POTENTIAL skill, they would have to actually look at and have someone on the team PLAY white mage. they have proven time and again that although they have the "holy trinity" in FFXIV, they dont care about it, nor do they care to work on it much since inception. they need to stop adding garbage jobs and fix what we have now. then they can go back to adding things if they desire

The difference between Medica and Cure III was supposed to be that Cure III didn't have much radius (you had to be stacked on the party). They have since increased the radius of Cure III so maybe they will follow your suggestion in Dawntrail, but that is the reason they are separate.

The thing is medica 1 is very obsolete now. It was very useless in p12s limit cut where it couldn’t reach the other side so you had to use media 2 and affalus solace in order to heal the odds or evens depending on the high group you were.

Solid suggestions, I agree with them. But I am afraid nothing like that going to happen, otherwise Freecure would've been removed years ago.

I support this idea. Medica should roll into Medica II. Cure III should either be removed or changed in some way. It's redundant.

Random idea/suggestion: Put Cure III on a 30 sec cooldown and have it restore of a percentage of maximum MP.

What's redundant about cure III? It's the WHM's primary burst AoE heal for ARR, HW, and SB content. I don't see a reason to nerf or remove the skill, as opposed to medica which is just a really weak version of cure III and only takes up space on the hotbar.

Square needs to stop making heals always have a dominant priority list with no wiggle room, medica 1 feels like a weak medica 2 because right now because of changes in design it’s functionally redundant. It was designed for 2 reasons

1) mana used to be an actual consideration so you couldn’t just spam medica 2
2) medica 2’s regen used to double the duration at half the potency so the idea was to cast medica 2 once then spam medica 1 as filler if you to heal something like J waves but couldn’t stack close enough for cure 3

So medica 2’s regen being halved in length at twice the potency basically now means that as long as medica 2 ticks once in the GCD its cast it’s already healed more than medica 1 and since MP is no longer a consideration anyway if you need raw healing you can just press cure 3

Cure 3 needs to go back to its actual niche use of being only if you are truly stacked tight (like Garuda cleanses) and medica 2 should have its regen halved and doubled again to give medica 1 an actual niche when you don’t have rapture

The issue with Medica II is it's 1000 potency of AoE HoT WHM doesn't need past level 50. It was a fine skill to have in ARR and quickly became redundant after acquiring Asylum @lv 52. Medica I and Medica II are functionally different skills and it does not make sense for I to upgrade to II.

HoT's stack though, and the last time I got any use out of Medica II was during Barb EX consistent damage output during the second phase of the fight when her duty was current and there was no echo. Stacking Med II with Asylum made her ground pound laughable. The problem with this is that oGCDs like Bell, Asylum, and Temperance negates the requirement to use a GCD to heal through it. And therein lies the issue with busted arse oGCDs making GCD heals completely redundant.

It's only use now is when you get a duty like World of Darkness and players are soaking damage left and right since you do not have your full kit at your disposal at this level. Cure 3 is also a niche spell that is rendered nigh useless because it is on the GCD. It still has a distinctive trait of being a cure bomb that radiates from the target instead of you. Unfortunately, situations where you will actually need to do this are few and far between. The question becomes is your reaction time is fast enough, or is it simply better to use Rapture and move on? My guess is the latter.

Yea I found that out the hard way. (Or rather one of the dps found it out for me)

To be fair before SGE completely tipped the balance into oblivion and they changed the other healers to compensate medica 2 over medica 1 because of the extra 5 yalms used to be a legit consideration (umbra tiles comes to mind)

My Issue with it is that after just a single tick Medica2 has the same potency as Medica 1. For a mere 100MP difference in cost, providing you get a single tick out of it, it comepletely negates the original. If Medica 1 was either cheaper or higher potency it would balance it, but currently no reason to be seperate moves after the C3 change.

Medica 1 should simply upgrade to Cure 3 and keep Medica 1's range.

Call it Medica 3 if you want to, IDK but the fact that both exist is silly.
