Scholar quests are in dire need of a rework (and other job quests, too)

Hello,

I just unlocked Scholar with an alt. When I did it during Shadowbringers as a wee sprout on my main I was a bit confused by the introduction of Eos and Selene as two beings with a different gameplay purpose. Later I learned they explain a no longer existing stance mechanic and the choice is purely cosmetic.

It was a bit weird and occasionally other sprouts were confused about this, too, asking in NN if there is a difference, so it wasn't just a "me" problem. But hey, easily explained.

However, now you don't even have a button for summoning Selene, it's just a glam. Now sprouts get explained a job mechanic they couldn't even enact even if they'd wanted to. xD

For the love of Hydaelyn, please give this a rework so it doesn't explain players gameplay options that have vanished from the game multiple expansions ago! It's fine you don't want to make new job quests because the number of jobs raises every expansion. However, that doesn't mean you should completely neglect and ignore the ones we have unless they are no longer able to be finished at all, like with MCH a while ago.


And while you're at it, please have a look at other class/job quests as well. The changes don't have to be super specific, considering gameplay changes each expansion anyway, but big things like this need to be updated. For example one summoner quest (I don't remember which one) is significantly harder now because the quest expects you to use Titan as a tank. This is also no longer possible, meaning you keep getting attacked unless you have a tank focused battle chocobo to help you out, or a friend who can heal you while you're doing this. It should not be required to go to these lengths for a single mid game job quest. I'm sure there are also other job quests in similar situations.

(Please no discussion about a "decline of Scholar gameplay" or whatever, there are other threads for it. This is simply a feedback thread for the scholar job quest.)

I suggest you write that up as a proper bug report and post it in the right sub-forum. And emphasize those parts where in-game information is no longer correct.
That should increase the chances that it actually reaches the right people.

Edit: Apparently it counts as "Working as Intended", considering the reply I got and the place the thread got moved... Maybe they should reconsider what they are actually intending then.

Now I wonder if the Astrologian quests also still talk about abilities and effects that no longer exist or have beeen utterly retconned.

The stormblood quests that directly reference nocturnal have basically been changed just enough in the wording that now you go around casting diurnal aspected benefic to achieve the same thing

The HW quests referencing the old card effects is totally unchanged, like they will say “bole- people look to this constellation for protection in hard times” referencing its old mitigation effect even though it’s just a damage card now

Last I checked (ShB), fairies can't even heal your SCH quest Solo duty NPCs anymore. But it doesn't matter cuz they just slap ilvl, very easy mode and solo echo on them all cuz screw it. Maybe that can actually be identified as a bug, if the issues OP brought up have been decidedly categorized as text issues and not gameplay ones.

NPCs in solo duties at least as far back as Stormblood count as party members and all actions that work on party members work on them.

I just remembered back when stoneskin was a thing, i applied it to npcs since i thought their ginormous hps will make Stoneskin even more potent.

I remember when they removed all the unique 'remove a debuff' skills from healers in SB, replacing them with a shared Esuna. The LV60 SCH quest still referred to using a skill called 'Leeches' for a long long time. I don't know if it ever got fixed, I'd assume it was since it has been 6 years since that change, but you never know

I've leveled multiple Scholar Alts in EndWalker and I have never seen Eos heal an NPC in a job quest. Spells like Succor also miss Alka Zolka and the like. I can only single target heal NPC's so to me it seems like the game does not consider NPC's as party members unless they are specifically placed in the party list.

I definitely remember Succor and Whispering Dawn - ie the AoE stuff - working with NPCs. But no, the fairy won't Embrace Alka Zolka.

Can't remember all the SCH quests.. but was this for an ARR/HW specific job quest? If so, we're still able to place Embrace in our hotbars and force our pet to Embrace. We can even place it in a macro back then. Good times.

Eos won't Embrace an NPC but the NPCs are still party members for the purpose of AoE actions. A quick search of "ffxiv scholar quest stormblood battle" yields plenty of examples:

Endwalker duty NPCs are still party members for RDM and sage AoE actions, so I have no reason to believe SCH AoE actions function differently to ignore NPCs.
