If you could change the role of any job/s what would you change?

I think a super easy example for me is dark knight. However I do like tank dark knight and an authetic harming yourself dark knight in PvE would be a knightmare for healers. Reaper has a somewhat similiar vipe as in using shadowy magics but as dps. (Plus in XI the sycthe was a pretty good weapon for dark knight)

I also wouldn't mind seeing Astro as a dps. A gambler esque dps with cards (and probably dice). Fortune telling enemies doom? Something like that.

I think Monk or Samurai would be solid tanks. Gorsetsu tanking in trust duties is always a win.

I know nothing about it but Viper as tank because we don't need 2 new dps jobs >_>

I just wish jobs had different specs. If they didn't want to give us talent trees at least just give each job 1 more spec to spice things up so every SAM, DRK etc don't all play the same. I would be far more excited for that then 2 new jobs. I do understand they want people leveling and playing multiple jobs but it becomes a nightmare with the gearing system, inventory etc. I just main SAM and I'm fine with it but it would be nice to play a different spec.

Jobs have specs would be cool, I think alot of the roles make sense but it's totally fair to see a job theme and wish you could take it in another direction.

Bard - Damage Dealer / Healer (Song focus)
Machinist - Damage Dealer / Healer if you wanted to go Combat Medic with Overwatch like vibes
Dancer - Damage Dealer / Healer

Black Mage - Healers Adjust
Summoner - Damage Dealer / Healer (new set of primals)
Red Mage - Damage Dealer / Healer / Tank
Blue Mage - Damage Dealer / Limited Job (all roles in limited content)

Viper - Damage Dealer
Pictomancer - Damage Dealer / Healer
Beastmaster - Damage Dealer / Limited job (Tank / Damage Dealer + DoL shepherd content, including a special building that can be setup in Lifestyle content like Doma, Ishgard, Island Sanctuary, and housing area)


Although to be honest I could envision a creative argument for every job being all roles, if I had really wanted. This is just my 'immediate how I see them' list.

Of course that would probably mean we have less jobs as each job is represented in more ways. If SE could do it I wouldn't say no! But it does sound like someone at headquarters is having a heart attack and a new type of PTSD if they heard this idea coming down the pipeline lol.

Gunbreaker DPS and Dark Knight DPS.
It would be impossible to make work but using your HP for attacks would be really cool.
Monk tank I think would be interesting and something I would be down for.

My mind immediately went to Dark Knight as DPS as well. Traditionally, one of its signature attacks is to deal big damage at the expense of one's own HP. That just doesn't seem like a good move if you're the one drawing all the enemy attention, but it does seem like a good risk/reward prospect for a DPS that has someone else taking the heat for them. Maybe instead of actually draining your health, it adds a stack of vulnerability. Would be a cool move to show off how well you know the fights and can avoid damage, pop a defensive cooldown right before a raid-wide attack. Of course, they could also potentially become the new "floor tank" meme when players screw up and fate catches up to them, but I think that could be fun.

I know Summoner already sort of has its healer role counterpart in Scholar, but I feel like if Summoner itself could draw power from a different pool of summoned creatures it could settle into a healer role nicely. Unicorn, Seraph, Golem. Maybe even reappropriate Fairy, Carbuncle, or Phoenix for some abilities. Ooooh, what if Phoenix could revive multiple party members at once?

I feel like Dragoon could make sense as a tank. If you're going to have heavy armor, may as well be the one taking the hits. Rather than have the Jumps just be an animation for an ordinary attack, have them actually take your character off the field for various lengths of time and be invulnerable while mid-air. Life Surge as a self heal also makes sense for a tank.

DRK dps, yes we have RPR now but that’s more a dark magic dps, I think DRK as a dps that consumes their own hp to deal increased damage would be fun (tapping into their tanking element for things like shields to protect them while their hp is low).

SAM tank, I always thought tank makes more sense for SAM than dps. NIN as the job that attacks from behind while the SAM is up front facing their enemy head on.

DNC healer, I think when DNC was announced everyone thought it was going to be a healer. It just made so much sense at the time. We hadn’t had a new healer since HW and we got 2 dps in stormblood, so GNB tank and DNC healer felt right. DNC would have really suited the healer role, look at its FFXI counterpart where it had healing dances and esuna dances, dances that gave everyone blood weapon, dances that debuffed the enemy and even FFXIV’s counterpart has some small hints as to what it could have been with things like shield samba and curing waltz. Not to mention every healer to date has been a magical caster, a physical based healer would have mixed things up.

Delete NIN, replace with THF. Get rid of the weeb garbage, put it back in Naruto where it belongs.

Get rid of MCH stupid mecha bullshit, make it focus on gunslinger play instead.

Oh, roles? I don't care, roles are stupid. Variant Dungeon has pretty much proved that with UBER CURE. Way more fun to just take a dumb-dumb w/e comp and just use the shield and heal to roflstomp.

All Jobs = DPS.

Everyone is DPS, everyone gets one heal, a res, and a shield each on a 10 sec cooldown. All the DPS rotations are unique, who gives a shit about tanking and healing. Lol. Tanking: Run forward, turn enmity on, sometimes AOE. Maybe use a defensive or mitigation cooldown once a year.

Healing: "I get so bored, I fall asleep when I heal, thread number 9898899"

Yeah, don't think we need those playstyles. They're boring to watch even, lol.

What's interesting about dark knight is that going from the lore IN ffxiv not just other games. They absolutely do power themselves with their own life force. From a gameplay standpoint in PvE this just uses your MP because that would be a balancing nightmare particularly for a tank. So how Dark Knights play in PvP is more lore accurate than in PvE. In fact. Dark knights tanking is kinda odd in the first place. I get why they do but they are shadowy knights that purposely eschew a shield and use their own life force to power their devastating blows. While they aren't literally sneaking around like a rogue or ninja they do tend to stick to the shadows and come out yes to defend someone. So I get where it comes from. A DK will see an innocent being targeted by something wicked and draw it's attention away. But that's more of a byproduct and the DK is putting themselves in immense risk/danger by doing this. Dark knights also tend to work alone or in master/student pairings. So they'd probably not be keen on the holy trinity or even bigger group sizes.

But obviously gameplay and lore will have differences. If you wanna RP as a dps dark knight either PvP or settle for reaper. Reaper doesn't eat their own hp but nothing will ever do that in modern ffxiv pve. (though honestly superbolide makes more sense for dark knight)

Samurai Tank. Ninja Tank. Dancer Healer. Summoner Tank. Scholar DPS.

Yeah, GW2 tried that and fights were horrible. They had to add back the trinity for raids because it was a mess otherwise.

Dark Knight into a DPS, as they've generally been that in most FF games. Usually their shtick has been attacks that cost HP to use for extra damage.

Kinda a stretch, but I'd have redesigned it so all jobs had some....transformable options. Like cleric stance allowing more DPS on a healer. Paladin used to have 2 "stances" for tanking or offtanking. Stuff like that.

More than anything though, I would make the jobs actually matter more- as in healers should be so busy healing that they simply can't really find time to DPS. or Tanks damage being rather pitiful compared to DPS.

Just... if we're going to have roles, then HAVE ROLES And make then NEEDED.

As is it's almost always better to just go 3 DPS and tank in a lot of unrestricted dungeons, even at current level.

I think that Monk would be a good tank.
Think about it, just to dish out those punches, you've got to be pretty tough to not just break your fists all the time.
Plus, since tanks deal less damage, it would make a bit more sense. How does fist deal more damage than gun?

Wouldn't really Change any of the base role types but If I were to add that you were able to have a different "spec" then I'd love that so here's a list of what I'd like

PLD - Healer, I think PLD has a healer would be Melee but also ranged flexibility that isn't a massive loss (somewhat similar to current PLD), I can imagine it have a lot of Mitigation tools and slightly better on average defense stats then healers, I could see it kinda work.
DRK/GNB/WAR - DPS, These three fit "DPS" More then PLD fits, in general i think all three work really well as DPS aswell.

Whm/Sch/Astro - Dps, I see white mage as the "stone/areo" dps mage with big holy finishers, while scholar could work as a poison Debuff healer. Astro you could give it super buffed buffs while upping its damage so it's similar to dancer just with a more active buffing gameplay loop.
Sage - Tank, This could also work well as a healer, I could see it as a tank who uses magic shields and stuff to protect itself.

Samurai/DRG/MNK - Tank, Samurai kind of already makes sense as a tank and theirs somewhat a "samurai tank" in the game so this logically makes sense, Dragoon looks armory already so I could see it as a more aggressive approach to the job lance tank would be cool at the very least, Monk could work as a tank in your face hand to hand with defensive buffs.
Nin/Rpr - Healer, Ninja could have a healing set of mudras and ranged options, Reaper could use shields that if broken give out big heals or regens, using void magic to heal people sounds kinda cool

Blm/smn - Tank? BLM to me seems a little odd outside just being a DPS, But it would make less sense as a healer, maybe you could have a mage tank with barriers? idk this ones odd but here for the sake of it, SMN could use pets like it used to, to tank for it, i doubt it but as SCH is bassically healer smn it doesn't make as much sense to me.
RDM - Healer, This makes sense so much as a healer already, just advance on that idea more and lean into RDM's supportive elements.

DNC/BRD - Healer Both could make sense as "non casting" healers, BRD is all about nature stuff and has esuna, while DNC has a lot of healing both can kinda fit that role.
MCH - Tank, "ranged tank" But other then that MCH is known for having 2 defensive raid wides and makes slightly more sense being a tank then healer...? I can see it I guess lol.

I would change Dark Knight to dps.

I kind of super got used to Dancer as a dpser, but before it was revealed I always imagined a Dancer job being a healer with interesting damage components (like Sage didn't get to be lol).
