Or it's simply a lost cause and nothing can be done about it?
Nothing can be done since they're not breaking any rules, just gotta deal with it.
There is no slot limits that are being hit on regular basis. The 'login queue' is not because too many people are on the server, but rather its 'how many people are trying to log in at once'. Timing on that spikes only when too many people are logging in at once, amount of people actually in the game has no effect on that. The problem only arises when you have insane amount of players in same area, that specific area may become hard to enter, but considering that doesn't happen to Limsa Plaza, I doubt it's a real issue.
Depending on the server they might be talking about zone player count limits preventing people from entering the area. About the only time I've hit that issue personally though is due to hunt trains or the super fate areas for the first couple months after an expansion launches
While yes they have no effect on the server login time God I wish somebody would ban them for a little bit. I'm tired of seeing the same group of people always AFK dancing in limsa.
i cant believe this is what people are complaining about really
out of all the issues in the game, this is what makes them go "yeah this is too much"
lmao
What do you want to do exactly? This isn't expansion release, there is no crisis yet.

all im saying is: if its not against the rules then be a part of the "non-problem" until our overlords decide otherwise.
People wouldn't be afking if the developers gave us meaningful and lasting content to pursue.
But nothing in this game has any intrinsic value because the developers are too scared to leave the people who don't even want to play this game out.
If it is an issue, then SE enables a system that kicks people from the server after 30 minutes of being AFK. SE disables this when the servers are not congested enough.
It is normally only congested enough to enable it after an expansion launches, except for the one time it had to be enabled before an expansion launch in 2021 due to streamers playing the game and causing an influx of new players.
A shame that it doesn't remain on because sometimes it can be hard to get into some areas if there are so many people AFKing there in some servers just on some patch days or weekends. I'd consider keeping that option on indefinitely for the congested servers if I were SE.
But they payed so much for their ultimate weapons!
They need to show them off 24/7 even if sleeping to justify spending all that money!
If the servers were under any stress, or if people were having any problems logging in due to congestion they would turn on the 30 minute timer like they have for Expansion launches. The people in Limsa are not preventing anyone from logging in at all.
The only time any zones get overloaded these days is because of hunt trains/S-ranks, and that has nothing to do with Limsa AFKers, but 300-500 people trying to swarm a single zone at a time. These hunt trains may also cause delays in visiting other servers, but again, nothing to do with people AFK in Limsa.
If you remove all the AFK players,
Then all the cities will be emty and
anyone who tries ffxiv for first time
will assume It's a dead game and leav.
I started in ShB, which had an active playerbase that was heavily influenced by the pandemic so I can't comment on past experience, but I really think you're looking at the situation through rose tinted glasses here.
People who play the game are gonna play the game, and if there's not content for them to partake in then they'll just stop logging in. AFKers are always going to sit around until whatever they want to do is active.
People AFK because they like AFKing and being seen.
I've been playing for years and have never had any desire to leave my character showing off somewhere.
At most I might park them on a bench if I leave the game running while I do other stuff, but I'm more likely to hide in an inn room if I'm idling or queuing, or especially if I'm in any kind of party that is running instanced content over and over because the inn room is quick to load and my PS4 is slow.
But they are vital to my gaming experience.
Every time i have to go to limsa i look around and think to myself "well at least i am not them" and feel better already
It's their monthly sub, how they spend their time is honestly their business.
AFK timeouts used to exist but the world needs to seem "populated".
It's a bit of a catch 22
Login queues has nothing to do with the actual number of players, we have them mostly coz of outdated software/hardware
Afk people waste their money on the electricity and the sub fee. Let them do it if they want to. The only ones that bother me are the ones who afk dead to waste altruistic healers times. Those people literally have mental problems. Oh, that and the weeb police guy mainly because they're skirting body blocking rules and they know it.
Don't be mad at them. Be mad at the bots beneath their feet. They're the ones increasing the player count and making it so people turn invisible once the town hits whatever weird cap it has on player visibility.
Seriously, next time you're in limsa, stand near the aetheryte, type /icam and then tab around for a while. It won't take long before you see what I'm talking about. All SE has to do is log in like once a week and kill them too. But they don't, because each of those bots pays a sub. "Premium" game btw.
Just wait until the new expansion hits they’re gonna most likely do log out timers so most people who afk will be kicked off. I’m kinda happy about that cause people don’t need to be afk for several hours on the game
Even back in SB where there was plenty of content to do, people were still mass-afking in Limsa - it ain't a content related problem.
Those people afk because they want to be seen, whether to show off glamours, accomplishments, etc. The availability of content, whether plentiful or lack of, has a very small impact on the AFKing - simply because in content, people tend to be focused on doing said content, then focusing on the people in said content, so the desires of the afkers to be the focus of someone's attention isn't met.
They do. Whenever the servers get super congested they add an afk kick timer.
It will most likely return for Dawntrail and then be removed again. Those login queues you see have nothing to do with the ammount of players already in game, and even on a dead server you'll get them, they exist as a form of DDOS protection I think.
But why though? So we can have empty ghost town hubs instead?
Quakeworld figured out how to minimise the load from an idle or inactive clients decades ago. An inactive player barely causes any traffic whatsoever. Ironically you cause far more load by running around and interacting with NPCs/Entities. Should you be charged more for your sub given that you are placing far more load in the servers?
You might as well make a "Can something be done about the utter waste of character server slots by hardcore raiders" thread. Stop trolling, and if you're not trolling, grow up and realize that not everyone likes what you like.
