What is the problem? That looks like the correct current exchange rate between US dollars and Canadian dollars. (At the time of writing this, 1 USD = 0.748 CAD)

I checked the currency exchange myself on Google, and it's correct. It's not SE on this one, not sure why are you upset.

It's not like SE has any control over currency rates, you know. Plus it's Steam too, where they have even less control over things.

as a Canadian, I would love to hear how you expect SE to deal with an international currency exchange rate.

Sounds like a problem the Canadian government needs to work on. SE can't fix exchange rates.

square enix has no control over international exchange rate. What do you expect the company to do turn into shinra and dominate the world as a mega corporation government ruler and have the entire world be under one currency.

Yoship needs to rebalance the global economy by giving Canada a potency buff. (but like in FFXIV it won't be enough :^) )

There are plenty of games and companies that offer regional pricing for games. Steam is notorious for it, where if you live in Russia or Brazil you can basically get games for free. I don't see why Squeenix can't do the same. The fact the Loonie and USD aren't worth the same is a whole load of BS anyways. Minimum Wage across the US is basically the same as it is across most of Canada, so why on earth do we functionally value the labor of Canadians less?

Those countries have low GDP per capita. Canada just has a weak currency but not a low GDP.

Yes, so tell me you don't know about economics? The rate exchange, the way at which various regions set minimum wage does not in any way equate to valuing one country's labor force over the other's.

Thank you for the confirmation, not really original though.

To my surprise, and SE's credit, they actually did make changes. Their shipping costs to Canada are now a flat 17$ rate instead of the ludicrous 50+ they were charging not too long ago. Which is great since I want some of their physical merch.

OPs being a bit of a clown in the thread but regional pricing would be nice, not just for us but for a lot of other countries too. It's not a new issue with SE, there's a lot of steam threads constantly complaining about it.

I live in Russia.

First of all, that's not exactly true because not all games have regional discount on them. I just recently paid very much full $70 USD for FF7 Remake. I did pay a regional price of $25 for Baldur's Gate 3 though, okay.

Second, for games that we do get for regional prices - we do so because an average Russian has a monthly income that is 5 to 10 times lower than what an average European, American or Canadian makes. Yes, $200-500 per month. As far as I know, Brazil is more or less similar in this regard. Regional prices here exist because otherwise the market would be simply dead and developers would rather make something from us than next to nothing at all because majority cannot afford a game costing 30% of their income. So with all due respect, it's a bit disgineous to compare the situation between Russia/Brazil and Canada.

And three... *sigh* Honestly, I can agree with the point that FF14 should have regional pricing, for Canada included if the country actually needs that accomodation. But considering the fact that Russia and Brazil had our actually taken away in 2017 with 4.0 release? We still have a small leeway with auto-renewal sub on Steam being cheaper, but the game itself, cash shop items, additional retainers and all other paid stuff otherwise is priced on rates. With this taken into account, as much as I personally wish regional prices were a thing again, I doubt they're going to ever introduce them back, sorry. :/

Steam's regional pricing for the Canadian dollar would knock about 1.50 CAD off the final price, going by the latest numbers I have.

You have, quite literally, spent more time posting about this on the forums than you would save in labor.

I'd normally recommend taking it up with your government - but from what I'm seeing, I don't think you'd be voting for sound economic strategy there, either.

Agreed, it was a nice surprise reading this thread to see that shipping costs had apparently been reduced, since they were hilariously inflated, however issues with regional pricing have been ongoing for years.

I think those prices are actually set by the game companies, who are selling through Steam. Regardless, it does not make the games basically free. They are bringing the price in line with those countries' economies and where most people are sitting in them, which at present is VASTLY different than the US or Canada's. If you'd like a better understanding of this, don't just look at exchange rates--look at average income and the cost of essential goods there. Food, fuel, basic utilities, that sort of thing.

Casting aspersions on people who work in fast food is not only irrelevant to the pricing complaint you want dealt with, it's disingenuous. With many establishments being deliberately understaffed, employees have to do even more work than they used to--and the work was already quite taxing.

If you have a request to make of Square Enix regarding the price of the game, subscriptions, or online shop items for Canada, you'd do better to make that request without muddling it with hyperbole, disingenuous statements, and complaints over things entirely outside of SE's control.

Real Canadian player here. Anyone who buys games actually know we pay more due to the currency exchange. Shocker though, we still pay it regardless because we love to game.

Not sure what you trying to accomplish but it's really old news up here since it was widely known years ago that due to fluctuations between currencies that we "pay more".

Although to be honest, the pricing really hasn't changed too much. It's just if you going for non normal editions of games of a company changes pricing.

I've always paid like 23 Canadian for a month sub. Paid what...35 last year for a 60 day sub card and I won't mess with optional item store unless it's a sale

The exchange rate is terrible, but I have basically accepted it as a fact of life. It was better before they could tax us so much on online purchases, but eh, nothing we can do about that.

If you wanna see real evil from Square Enix as a Canadian, buy something off their physical store. Customs fees plus absolutely vile shipping prices. There is a reason I buy things like EE and the artbooks from Amazon, if I buy them at all. :(

Let's be honest, they've always treated any region outside of JP as second rate in regards to feedback.
