Small complaint. Job gear designs

The keynote was amazing to watch! Dawntrail looks promising! And i loved everything presented in the stream.

Most anticipated part for me was the new Job gear designs, some of them were just so good despite it not shown in full picture, like GNB, SGE and RPR. Others were underwhelming and repetitive of some sort, like SAM, MCH and DNC. Now don’t get me wrong the Art team did a phenomenal job but it feels like they’re following some strict rules when making these designs.

Personally my main complaint is the Paladin design, i like it a lot! But the damn Circlet made its way back yet again. Can we stop giving PLD circlets/mini crowns every expansion? How come the most heavily plated class in the entire game has no unique helmet of its own? (Except the wolfs mark lion helmet which dyes horribly). It’s barely visible let alone it clips with most hairstyles.

I really wish SE could change that and give PLD a proper helmet like DRK and WAR.

Because it's artifact armour (AF), and AF tends to follow the 'traditional' appearence of that Job in past FF games - in PLD's case, that's Cecil from FFIV who famously wore a circlet in his PLD appearence.

There's plenty of enclosed or knight helms that PLD can equip already in the game anyway - that's a non issue (my personal favourite was the Adamantite Helm of Fending that I used for my PLD glam for years).

We already have 5 different versions of Cecil now. Plus John Final Fantasy had a helmet

Some are very the same note like SAM and PLD... But I noticed that others like AST, BRD, SMN are very distinct from what they had before.

I wanna see the Blm gear but I don't wanna get mad after being pleasantly surprised by today's keynote. I just know it's gonna be another sack >:C

I think they should do some artifact gear that's completely out of left field and original across the board in a future expansion!

For this one, I really like Gunbreaker and especially Astrologian, Astro really shines with the soft, velvety cloth shaders and is very simple and straightforward.

I really like PLD because it doesn't have a cape
SGE and SAM got EW MCH treatment where its just got more stuff on their previous AF gear

SMN set looks super comfy and cool tho

As much as I appreciate the fact that AST is different from what they kept getting ever since Stormblood... I hope that this is just an unflattering angle because the robe looks like a 60's granny nightgown -_-;

If we talk about originality, Warrior of Light is the real Paladin/Knight and wore a helmet. Dark knight Cecil had straight sword/spear as his weapons, first ever Dark Knight Leon from FF2 had a straight sword, if i remember correctly FF3 Dark Knight used a katana for a specific dungeon, so where did the greatsword come from?

And sure there are plenty of helmets but i think you missed the keyword “Unique”. I want a helmet resembling a Paladin, and the fact that Paladin/Knight doesn’t have one IS actually an issue.

I don't know why you're mentioning DRK here as it's a completely seperate Job, and even the Fighter's sprite in FFI was essentially WAR, which is why FFXIV's WAR AF and FFXI's WAR AF before it is clad in red and black armour (although the FFI Fighter Job upgrade to Knight was more akin to PLD... and the sprite still depicted a coronet/circlet not a helmet).

Also the helmet worn in the FFI Amano artwork of the WoL is already in FFXIV anyway (as a bonus with the ARR collector's edition).

As I said before, there are plenty of enclosed 'knight' type helms already in the game, there must be something already in the game that appeals to you (that's the beauty of glamour - work with what you have).

I believe the most significant part about the AST AF and the reason it's included on that slide is because they want to emphasize that it's a velvet material with embroidered stars, which is not something they could have done well before the graphics update. Yeah the design is simpler than some of the other AST stuff but this material is novel.

RPR seems alright, but the rest seem so samey compared to previous sets. SMN I'll give a pass to I guess but they keep sticking the dildo hat onto it for some reason. I don't think it NEEDS to have it on every set. PLD, SGE, SAM, MCH, all look like derivatives of older sets. The SAM one looks like they ctrl + c'd the EW set and pasted a few plate armors onto it. Very uinspired all around imo. I think it should be okay for the art team to take risks at this point on the AF sets. AST isn't really derivative as it is just incredibly boring. They just copy and pasted some stars on it to make it AST themed.

Reason why I’m mentioning DRK is SE didn’t stick to where DRK have come from and made their main weapon a greatsword, so why should PLD always stick to Circlets for headgear? Don’t get me wrong I’m not asking for a groundbreaking changes for PLD AF. All i ask for is a unique helmet for PLD, already 5 different expansions SE gave PLD Circlets that are barely noticeable/clip so hard. why not give AF helmet for at least once? Sounds extremely reasonable and fit for Paladin/Knight theme.

As for the WoL helmet in Collectors Editions .. like really? :)

I would like to see more unique (aka different from other) artifact gear. They are not ugly, but it's getting a bit too same same for my eyes.

Might suggest corrupt artifact, not in sense of dark corruption explicitly but take Paladin. Normally royal elegant knight. Next one (or perhaps as a content opportunity, later in a patch) could be human tank, clad in battle tested hulk strength armor, books on spiked chains, 7 layers of firewall, zealous sigils, Warhammer 40k space marine type situation. Screams holy still, but far from elegant. Do that for all the jobs :) (taking a theme and running another direction with it).

I think the artists are heavily restricted when it comes to AF gear but still how come PLD always get Circlets

I have to say it but I really dislike the summoner one it is just ugly lol...I play Summoner a lot and just think it looks bad :(

They really need to reinvent AF gear. This is the first expansion I'll be playing on release and I should be wanting wear the gear naturally without glam for at least a little bit.

I shouldn't be instantly glamming over it, saying, "Yeah, I'll come check it out to see which pieces I can use later."

At first I couldn't see that it was a new Sage AF, it looks like the old one way too much. A lot of them just looks like a retouch of old gear instead of new gear.

Wish they would have done a "Tural interpretation of the jobs", but we're gonna end up with gear designs from East to West (probably designed by Tataru).
