How bout you guys?
I switched from AST to Sage in my heart the moment it was announced. I couldn't go pick up that quest fast enough when it came out. I've been waiting for a more damage-focused healer for years, since I left my Disc priest in WoW.
I switched from samurai to Reaper as well.
As ive lost AST as my healer (it was already gone for me in SHB, ive switched to Sage and never looked back. The few changes on DK made me to turn back to it after ive switched to GNB during SHB (And i didnt wanna "play the cool job everyone does" lol)
I switched in shb from caster (based on, what i did, was i a blm, smr or sch) to meele to dancer (dancer mostly for Single instance fights, meele for dungeon). Main reason was, that i lost the ability to play a caster each time around lvl 75 (to much to keep track on).
After a break, was i mostly a monk, nin or blm again.
In EW was i mostly monk and reaper (has leveled them at the same time). Monk, because i liked him from the end of shb times (even, when his new chakra system maked him a little differently). And reaper, because he looked cool.
With lvl 90 did i changed back to Black mage. He is the class i like the most. But i think he is not good for Story fights (take to much time for casting).
Some month ago did i started to focus more on the dragoon. I wanted to see the difference to the reaper and maked at the start fun about the dragoon. But, i noticed, that he is currently the meele class, who fit me the most.
Drg feels fast and has a good, streamlined rotation. Im currently between blm, who is slow and feels sometimes boring, but allowing me to watch the surrounding better and is a range fighter. And the drg, who feels fast and busy. I like his line aoe more, as the round aoe of other classes and he is very mobile. But, i can lose sight of the surrounding (because i only think to attack). And the busy gameplay can be a pain, when im not in the mood for that.
Im currently waiting for the details of the drg rework. To see, if im focusing the drg in the next expansion. Or, if i will be running the story this time as blm. Or, maybe one of the New classes (Viper look nice, but i think, that the current drg would fit me more).
Not really. I did the MSQ, and progged and cleared the the whole raid series on BRD. I did swap to GNB in Abyssos to help a friend's group with reclears, and to help them clear p8s, but that was after I had cleared it. BRD, RDM, GNB, and SGE are my go to roulette jobs. I really hope Viper or if any changes to the existing melee DPS in DT are enjoyable because it's the one role I just don't vibe with, and keep bouncing off of.
MNK to NIN for melee. I dont like blitz, i dont like the loss of positionals and they didnt adress Chakra.
MNK gets to dip its feet into the same shed WAR and SMN are in.
Nope. Went full main fave melee Reaper from day 1 6.0 patch all the way to 6.5 patch
I changed from MCH to MNK during the original release of EW, because i'm just fed up with what they did to that job in shb. I like the MNK rework a lot and found it promising, especially blitzes and the removal of positionals which I can't stand, but it seems my brain isn't just wired for the base freeform combo plus all the galaxybrain stuff around not dropping the buff and the dot during bursts, so I dropped it pretty fast even though it's definitely possible to find hacks in the basic balance streamlined rotation so that your dragon kicks and bootshines stay aligned at all times and that the rotation becomes static... Until there is an awkward disconnect.
I moved to BRD, and to a lesser degree DNC, where there is still procs to be toyed with. Raided the whole expansion on BRD, and I'm kinda burned out of it, especially due to the bloodletter spamm (idk unlike Pitch it just feels bad after a while) and a general sense of boredom. DNC did kept me fed a little because it was different enough, but let's be honest, it's barely less braindead than SMN.
Went back to MCH out of options for criterion recently. Already bored of it.
I don't know what to do right now. I like rphys, but I don't like any of the jobs in it anymore. I have a weakness for big burst jobs in the game, but it seems that there is no proc based job designed around this anymore.
For the MSQ? No - did the whole thing as BRD.
After the great removal of kaiten and all fun from SAM I swapped to NIN.
No I'm still not over it and yes if it doesn't come back I might just quit altogether.
MNK to DNC/SMN/NIN
Sure DNC/SMN are the easiest classes, but they're also fun. Not that ease = fun.
MNK needs some QoL. It's one thing to watch for Discipline Fists, Demolish, AND Leaden Fist while watching savage/ult mechanics. It's another to keep up with the insane savage mechanics this expansion. It's even another to watch the boss, watch your nadis, and watch your rotation based on what nadi you need or are consuming. Sigh. There's little to no room for error when it comes to the boss or to the class that MNK is.
It's frustrating because I love monk.
Lot of SMN/RDM at the start then branched out. Omnijobber in casual content though
Scholar to Sage.
Paladin has always been my tank, but I'll sometimes play Warrior.
I tend to mainly play Machinist as DPS but I occasionally played Red Mage and Dancer prior to Endwalker. The only change is I now also sometimes play Summoner as well.
In EW I started using /random 19 (or 4, 4 or 11 if I want a particular role) to decide what to play. I've pretty much always leveled every job, but they're all so damn similar at this point that this is the easiest way to introduce some variety into the game.
The old cooldown differences and presence of things like adds (changing the value of using AoE actions like Guren or multi dotting), differences in executing heals or mitigation a did a lot to make repeating fights more enjoyable, I think. Right now, learning a fight's dance feels like a lot more of what's required whereas learning a specific job for a fight matters only for parse heads or a few Ultimate phases.
Did the main scenario as Summoner trying to find some joy in it since I gained summoner from day one. Hated every second of what it has become, switched to Machinist. Sad that what used to be my mindless job for relaxing is now more fun than my previous favorite job but....here we are.
Switched from AST main to Reaper main. AST in its current state feels like I just had my soul sucked out with the Garlean machine and my corpse is a puppet.
Astrodyne..Shouldn't exist. Should just automatically be merged with Divination. Just clutter.
Was a healer main back in Stormblood when AST had its different card effects. Best times. Over the years I've seen how they kept simplifying healers over and over to the point where it's become stale and more repetitive than ever before. Just no enjoyment left in it for me.
For shadowbringers in the MSQ I played Dark Knight (up to that I was playing Paladin), But I switched back to Paladin after the SHB Msq, more because I don't really like how it plays.
Right now after the Paladin rework I'm probably going to look at a Different Main, unless they make positive PLD changes, I'm somewhat hoping that DRK will get a rework or that PLD will get tuning to make Goring blade more engaging and fix Bloat issues.
If I don't play PLD/DRK Due to lack of changes in general surrounding tanking or those jobs, I'll Most Likely will play a Melee for the Story but Black Mage for general stuff after DT's msq. I think switching to DPS most the time might do me good, I generally Like supporting by tanking or healing in most games but I just am annoyed with how little fun tank or healer has been lately in ff14. (at least for me)
I have at least everything at 90 so It's not like I will have to rush or level anything for the expansion which is a big plus, I guess it all depends on what changes.
I switched from BLM to SMN after it seemed I was moving too much in the new alliance raid and 8-mans in EW to be effective. I know SMN is easier compared to BLM, but it allows more casting while moving and I get to experience the dungeons standing up instead of from the floor. :)
From SMN to DNC and recenty from DNC to BLM. Why? Because I wanted to challenge myself, and turns out that I'm doing pretty okay with BLM even on prog. And ngl, Aetherial Manipulation is spoiling me a lot (as long as I have reliable people around).
I was really getting into AST, but then I realized it would be better to actually wait and see the rework instead of getting used and comfy with something that will have a big change incoming.
I was SAM/MCH/GNB in ShB. I did SAM/MCH/RPR beginning of EW. I got a pretty bad left hand injury around DSR which prevented me from playing MCH comfortably, so I swapped to DNC. By April 2023 my hand injury got to the point that I started playing SMN and WHM exclusively since I can play both of those with just my right hand.
Just been keeping those two jobs as my go-to that way the healing process isn't interrupted. Getting better though! Have improved from being unable to play MCH for more than 10 minutes without horrible pain to around 2 hours.
I main Mch and didnt really swap out of it, but I did open up to playing other jobs cause mch can get a bit repetitive. I also tend to compartmentalize a bit. Like I have my Main, then I have my alt main and then I have a main for each role; tank, healz, melee, rphys and magical. My melee main switched from dragoon to mnk just because i enjoyed leveling it, i think Whm is gonna take my ast place as heals, which i havent touched since they removed the sects other than to level it. Im leveling pally now and wondering if it will replace gnb for me or not.
I mained SMN from my beginnings as a baby sprout up to Endwalker's launch. Trying the rework for the 6.0 MSQ was an awful experience.
I switched to SCH as the only remaining job with an actual pet, with sides of RDM and BLM if I want to play a caster for once. It would still feel wrong for me to step into raid regularly without having an actual, functional pet.
I switched to Sage and Reaper. I use Sage for soloing duties.
WHM > SGE - I used to be a SCH since 2.0 but fell out of love with it. AST didn't make the cut for me so I defaulted to WHM for a while. Switched to SGE during Endwalker and been pretty much only playing that since then.
PLD > WAR - Also had PLD as my main tank role since 2.0 but I also fell out of love with it. I find WAR more fun.
Mained Sam in shb, swapped to rpr in ew and I am currently feeling a bit of buyers remorse. While I love playing rpr at 90, it really sucks sub-90 and the level of suck just goes up the farther you get from 90. I'm hoping the drg remake feels great at a larger level range so I can switch to that, get access to a bunch of glowy spears, and keep access to maiming since it's got the most glams I like.
I used to main MCH since HW. While I loved that job, I was really annoyed by the direction it took during ShB, the absence of changes in EW and don't like other ranged, so I swapped to GNB.
While my main was GNB for the whole expansion...
6.05 I went from GNB to DRK because it was our first savage loot. Since DRK was so valuable and had a slight rework, I kept playing DRK for DSR.
6.2, I went back to GNB, the QOLs were very enjoyable.
6.5 after my group savage prog as GNB, I went helping a more casual group of friend to prog the savage tier. The role was flex DPS so I initially tried to help as MCH but I couldn't stick with the job anymore so I went RPR for this last bit of raiding for the expansion.
used to play Summoner pre rework along with playing BRD, PLD and GNB,
about a month after levelling it to 90 post rework I more or less dropped it entirely as it was just boring to play.
did also drop BRD for a time due to them removing all DoT interactions and nerfing mages to the ground, but I cooled off from it so now for phys ranged I play BRD/MCH.
this expansion I wanted to play a little more melee DPS so I generally settled on having preference towards NIN after playing it and experimenting with MNK, SAM and DRG (even clearing Abyssos savage on DRG)
nowadays I settled to mainly playing PLD, GNB, NIN, BRD, MCH most of the time. but I still dabble with the other classes based on moods.
I stuck with SMN for another expansion. I tried leveling RDM after SMN in 4.0, and really liked it but got bored.
That being said, I’m really bored with SMN after the rework. I’m glad it’s no longer the poison mage, but the rotation is too simple.
We’ll see how I feel about picto after the media tour. Leaning towards that.
When I first started the game I was a PLD main, but eventually lost interest in the job because I got bored with how Tanks are used in this game and kept on switching to other ones to the point of leveling all of them to 90 and not really finding my main for nearly two 2 years.
Got comfortable with MCH because I'm trying to do POTD 200 necromancer challege at the moment, and just stuck with it for now. Honestly theres something about every job in this game that doesn't make me love it, thus I'm always changing jobs...
but anyways, MCH, for now.
Pre-Endwalker: Red Mage + Dancer
Endwalker: Red Mage + Summoner
was originally a drg/drk main forever, but swapped to RPR on EW launch caus it looked cool,
didnt much like the rotation, felt slow to me so i ended the tier as a SMN just because it was easy to jump on seemed to have a higher APM and was fun to lookat, plus it made pugging easier as it could preform under any conditions.. cant stand caster gear tho so had to get back to my roots..
so i went back to dark, sadily they were a walking dumpster fire in the eyes of the community by the time i picked em back up so i said screw it, if i wanna pug i will have to play war... found i hate how we hold the axe in this game, especially on our back, ((WHY is the heavy side up on our back!? so dumb)) that and the fact that i much prefer how drk plays made me dump that,,
so i decided to go melee, wanted high APM and sam was so flavor that everyone and their mom was playing it so i chose NIN that was middle of the pack, viable not flavor so i wasnt fighting to get in grps, andfell in love with it, still loving NIN, granted seeing a lot more of them now days but dont care as im having way to much fun playing it so sticking it out as a naruto ripoff with a weeb costume and some pointy edgy bois
so melee= NIN, tank= DRK, physical range= MCH, magic= RDM, healer= SGE.
really happy with this setup and the 2 new jobs will definitely have to wow me to change my "mains"
As for my main job. Mch to Brd. But not because of damage or utility, because I wanted to use a bow instead of a gun. That's it.
I leveled and play a War (and Pal) for awhile, and still do for fast ques. But the idea of tanking stress me out to no end.
Then there is red mage that I played for a hot minute
As of right now, I'm trying to playmainmelee dps but hate it to much. I have Sam at max but again, I hate it.
I went from GNB to Reaper for EW. After the nerf, I went back to WAR and stayed war till end of ew. If VPR gets nerfed after 2 weeks due to everyone somehow calling the class OP- then I'll probably go back to Warrior main and keep vpr as a third behind blm
Pre endwalker: summoner
Post endwalker: Not summoner. :( Not really having fun with my jobs anymore. Hoping picto can fill the void...
gnb to any other tank, lvl 90 gnb gives me carpal tunnel
I left SAM because of how bad it felt without Kaiten, tried every other job (at 90) looking for a new main, and ended up just sticking with SAM because even without Kaiten I still like it better than any of the other options.
I'm still sour about Kaiten getting removed - my interest in the game as a whole was drastically diminished by them completely gutting the only job that really suited my preferences.
Dropped SMN after 8 years because of obvious reasons. Don't have a main, just drifting from between Range DPS when I decide to play which is rare these days. Endwalker is really living up to the name.
Mostly dropped BLM, though dabble with it. Endwalker has made it clear that sitting still and memorizing boss attack patterns/prepositioning is no longer a valid playstyle, and the way I like to play BLM, and even casters in general, is anathema to EW's general fight design philosophy, which is vastly, vastly more reactionary and movement-heavy than it is preplanning and remembering what's happening in the fight.
I play every class to some capacity, but the biggest thing was more or less realizing my ability to enjoy my role was being actively killed by the encounter designers, and me just bouncing around to whatever seemed fun at the time. If you ever want to know what the biggest act of homogenization the game has ever had, there's 4 events to really look at. When tanks were turned into carbon copies of paladin, when healers were turned into carbon copies of white mage, when every job got mitigation stepping on the toes of rphys, and when casters were forced to play the game like ranged phys. Nowhere is this more obvious than the mass migration of the caster population over to the only caster that truly plays like a ranged phys.
I digress.
At least Samurai was interesting until superchain 1. I actually enjoyed removing Kaiten, the skill always felt like pointless bloat that made the class harder to learn at a base level than it needed to be. I just wish the animation was transitioned to Third Eye or something, as it was a great animation.
