I feel like this would fix a lot of the vitriol towards commanders. (I know I sure get a lot of hate for it at times. I'm just trying to win T_T) I don't remember if blacklist works for this? (if it doesn't it probably should)

Blacklist does work and I've felt compelled to use it for the individual mentioned by the OP and a couple of other shot-callers. Which is a shame, and maybe some of the chattier commanders might find the following helpful.

I imagine we all have different likes and dislikes, so I'd be interested to know how others feel about this, but from my own perspective.

Likes

A moving marker to keep the zergball together. One can argue the usefulness of this reflects an issue with the mode, but as things stand it's a massive help in ensuring a numerical advantage in battles.

Reminding the less-observant team members that new nodes are spawning, and calling the next target. Sometimes "map" suffices in chat.

Similarly pointing out which team is leading and ideally should be focused.

Pinch warnings invariably come 3 seconds after some damn premade has wiped out half the alliance, but sometimes help.

Limited use of sound effects are generally helpful, particularly danger bongos when the danger can be called with sufficient time to react to it.

Dislikes

One of the Aether regs has a multi-line macro with 5 or 6 accompanying sound effects, the purpose of which is to tell the team "well done." Encouragement is nice. Flooding the chatbox and making a racket in an already chaotic environment is obnoxious.

Similarly multi-line LB countdowns. One common 4-line/sound macro gives a "get ready" with a 3..2..1.. countdown. This is not only annoying, but almost completely useless to the vast majority of players. Team members either have the skill to track what's happening, or far more commonly they have absolutely no idea where the shot-caller is, nor the ability to react to the LB burst.

Multiple uses of the same command/advice with sound effect for a situation which hasn't changed. People are either paying attention to chat or they aren't. One sound effect is sufficient to get their attention. More than this and, like the OP implies, you're simply irritating people and the whole exercise becomes completely counter-productive, particularly once you're blocked.

Returning to the OP, I guess this presents evidence any suggestions are going to fall on deaf ears? The shot-caller in question begins their sonic bombardment by telling team members how they can disable SFX and the chat flood. Presumably they have included this advice due to push-back from annoyed team members. This to me is staggering. Rather than modify annoying and self-defeating behavior, this individual has the hubris to tell players who don't like it to modify their system settings? I guess someone with that level of self-awareness is unlikely to change, hence blacklisting or another muting option is the only remedy.

Mawlzy makes a number of very good points. When it comes to sound effects, I really find that "less is more". I find that for the most part, people are well intentioned, and I don't mind if calls end up being wrong (i.e. I appreciate the effort), however repeated sound effects will just result in their being ignored until (sadly) they get blacklisted because, as you say- I shouldn't have to adjust my system settings and lose all of my other sound effects.

Also , for some specific calls- yes a pinch can be called late, but not always- so absolutely agree - hit or miss- however my personal vote is a "NO" to danger bongos. (Seriously??? please no , I think that would give me a heart attack). Finally - if you're in another party in FL and you keep spamming in alliance chat that your LB is up- unless we're all synchronizing for a specific push- please leave it to party chat.

That's interesting, and a reminder we all have different sonic sensitivities. se.4 is the one I really dislike. Not sure what it's supposed to be, but it has the same effect on me as nails on a chalkboard.

So what do we think is the least intrusive/ most useful sound effect? I have one thought about who is listening to these macros when I first made them, but never looped back. <se.14> potentially?

14, 15 and 16 are all fairly pleasant, but whether they stand out against battle sounds I'm not sure.

Incidentally, I'm pretty sure I was in the match from which the text in the OP was pulled. The number of sound effects averages to one roughly every 2.8 seconds. At that frequency it doesn't matter how pleasing the sounds are.

I do think Frontlines is a game mode that does need commanders but it's a tough job when people don't really listen then blame you for back call outs when they didn't listen in the first place. You can make all the right calls, but a bad team is just a bad team. Half the time people lose because they aren't aware that the job, they are playing is effectively underwhelming in these game modes. Even if you have a DRK commander, it's not useful if your party is mostly physical range jobs. Commanders definitely should limit their Sfx use but it probably also helps it they said they were planning to commander before discovering it mid match. The only macro DRKs ever need is "I'm getting ready to Salted Earth, follow my lead!" It's unnecessary for you to keep pinging how many seconds on cooldown it still has. It's like they forget our skills are on cooldowns too.
